After what seems like decades we have players who don't get injured at least once a season

He’s probably had as many injuries as Jones over the last year.

The Europa league is gruelling for that stuff.

It has its negatives obviously, but like others have said — having a player that dependable on fitness wise is so important. Even more impressive after the mental summer he had. I think Ole could and should rest him more in cup games, though.

Maguire is almost at Baillys total in just a year and a half! If he continues at this rate of minutes he'll be close to Rojo by the end of the season. It's about time we don't have sicknotes as our starters. We can all complain about Maguires ability from time to time, but not having a defensive injury crisis every December is a welcome relief.

Love him. He's been a fantastic addition to the team.

People love to criticise him because of his price. He's been worth a chunk of the fee by just staying fit compared to the rest of our options. Stabilty of selection is underestimated.

I really admire his will to want to play he probably wants to show he was worth the price tag and the captaincy, but there have defiantly been times he needed to be rested as he has looked utterly knackered and his form suffered because of it.

agreed people can complain all they like about the transfer fee but compare that to Jones, Rojo and Bailly - the amount they cost, the wages and the pathetic value we have out of them.

Maguire whilst clearly expensive, will be on more value than them.

Even though everyone of us talk about the price tag, I think we have hit the jackpot in terms of resistance and his mental strength. He's been great since he's been here. Of course he's got flaws in his game but who doesn't. He's been a great addition and long may it continue.

I'm surprised Bailly has played that many minutes with his record.

Completely agree it is good not to worry about a CB injury crisis with him there and he seems the kind of player who likes playing constantly anyway. Even when he had the personal issues at the start of the season he wanted to keep playing.

Yeah, I was surprised by Bailly too, but then I remembered we bought him in July 2016.

4 and a half seasons averages out at like 1500mins a season.

It's great to have a reliable player in that regard but it will wear after a period of time, he's due a break.

It's a good thing. Regardless of his performance being good or not, we have spent years suffering from defensive injury crisis that fecks up our season every year. A breath air to have both Maguire and Lindelof being fit for the majority of the season.

I hope we rest Maguire against Everton. We'll need his rested for one of the most difficult strikers in the league to cope with when we travel to Leicester this weekend.

How, and why is Messi still hanging around on these type of lists? Doesn't he sit out Argentina games now as well as the occasional Barca game? Still setting a standard in fitness though, Ronaldo's probably still up there too.

Is it? Our defense still looks like it has never played together before..

Good point. He may have cost approx 10m more than those three combined but they have been poor value for money before we factor in their combined salaries.

Thankfully we're not watching the alternative with whichever one of Bailly, Jones or Rojo is fit that week.

3rd best defence in the league last season.

If I did not made any miscalculations, that's his minutes for 9 seasons. We will have better CB options, fitness considered, if he stay. Could offer us the luxury to rest Maguire in cup games with little worries. Of course if he does, there's the issue of whether he fits our play-from-the-back emphasize system.

Minutes per season may be a better reflection, not surprising Mag is the highest there. Though Jones is the worst, turns out it's Bailly or rather it's Axel. The last two below is more on player selections and pecking order, so they will get less minutes. Rojo too lost his place in later 4 seasons. Just Bailly really that is among the first team top choices up and down for CBs since he arrived and even after Maguire arrived, he's still a mainstay with Lindelof is his only competition. Axel is arguably the 3rd choice and a potential 2nd choice actually since last season before his injuries and then Bailly took his place for a while. Lindelof quickly becoming the permanent 2nd choice.

This for me is Harry's best quality. As a defender I don't rate him among the very best, but he's literally always fit and available, which for us is priceless, after our CB has been a revolving door for the last decade or so. Having him consistently available is very good.

Oh, this is really bad news. You talk about Maguire, but fail to mention that we have three players in the top ten in the world. Apart from Maguire it's Bruno and Victor. This is really something that should concern people....

The three guys don't really have a history of injuries so it's not too worrying now

I remember that random period where we had Jones and Rojo as our CB pairing and they were looking immense for a run of games, a glimpse into an alternate reality where neither was made of glass.

He's not missed 1 game. Whereas Jones has had yet another 3-4 months out this season.

Don't fret. Tuanzebe and Bailly are worthy heirs to the injury unreliability throne.

This is the way I see it also. He's a 7-8/10 CB who is always fit. That's definitely value for money. However I'm not sure if we're winning anything significant with himself and Lindelof back there. In an ideal world a Rio/Vidic paring would have these two in the bench as squad players.

I mean one is prepared to dig in and play through the pain, the other is out for 3 months with a broken nail.

Thank you Harry! Consistency is key for a good back line. Is very comforting to know Maguire is back there when a long ball is played to his side as I know he'll likely win it. And it's very comforting to know when a cross comes in from Shaw's side I know Maguire will be positioned just right to deal with it. This is why Ole plays him so much.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I remember that random period where we had Jones and Rojo as our CB pairing and they were looking immense for a run of games, a glimpse into an alternate reality where neither was made of glass.
And after that period it was Bailly-Rojo and they also looked great. Those four months in 16/17 was amazing as all three of the glass cannons got a bit of a run together and it really did work. Of course it was Jones getting injured that gave Bailly a chance, and it was Rojo doing his cruciate that ultimately bought it to an end. Unfortunately Rojo never looked the same after that, which was a real shame as he was looking brilliant and most agreed he'd been our best defender that season.
