Man City 2020/21 - General discussion

Their success just feels hollow to me. Just a real life Fifa career mode with the money cheat. I honestly don’t even care about them beyond them potentially stopping us winning a title, there’s no true hatred, it’s just emptiness. I hate Liverpool, I used to hate Chelsea & Arsenal, I don’t give a shit about City. Nothing club.

What do I have to gain by lying about City? I hate Liverpool, it fecking killed me seeing them win the league. I take pleasure in seeing their fans hurt.

I don’t care that much about City. You’re a great team, your manager is fantastic. Like I said though, it’s hollow. If the Sheikh bought Bolton instead of you they would have these titles. The only title win that hurt was 2012 because you were the team who happened to beat us to it, it would have hurt the exact same if it was Arsenal or Chelsea or Spurs & way way more if it was Liverpool.

City fans hate United. United fans hate Liverpool.

I see City dropping 2 points at Burnley this week. Liverpool will beat Brighton by 3 goals. City will lose at Anfield I'm almost certain. I think you'll beat Spurs then drop more points away at Arsenal.

Liverpool will win all 4 of their next matches.
This aged well.

Let’s just hope pool can get a win at city otherwise the league is all but city’s already.

Three "big chances" conceded across their last 9 PL games, 1 across their last 6. That defence could carry them to the title.

You are aware we've only spent 60m more than you since Pep arrived. And why would it matter how our success would make you feel anyway? If I said 'ugh the richest club about to win number 21 ugh boring I don't care' I'm fairly sure there wouldn't be a single United fan that would care. It's our success, the only relevant party here are City fans.

Weirdly we have no one in the form of their lives bar maybe a couple of defenders. Sterlings been off, Jesus hit and miss, Mahrez off, Bernardo coming back to form, Gundogan in his best form at City but not at his Dortmund best, Rodri better.but not his Atletico peak. Laporte has been shocking since his injury. I'd make the argument that Stones was this good in the first half of our 100 point season too but fell off a cliff afterwards. Just playing a system that works right now.

Form of their lives might be a bit exaggerated on my part, but I mean you have a lot more players in top forms, Cancelo is the best right back in the league, Dias/Stones best defenders, Ederson best GK, Gundogan best midfield, Foden is in top form and Bernardo is returning to his 18-19 level. Compared to United who only have Bruno and Liverpool really nobody right now.

They know it’s theirs for the taking, have the belief, and they’re not succumbing to the weirdness of this season and making errors. So far.

I definitely second this. I watch Liverpool matches hoping they lose, but I don’t bother watching City when they’re on. It means very little whatever they do.

Lads, look at that form, all green.

Another machine like season for City. League is over. :(

It includes the bottom 6 teams. If that form is the same in a month then its over but I highly doubt it will be.

Just so simple, yet.. So true.

Spot on

I feel City will walk the league from here on in.

I think that it's still too early to say but the next month could decide it one way or the other. City have to play Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, United and West Ham next...an awful lot can happen here.

I think city are favorites but I feel it's been glossed over that you have played bottom half teams except villa in last 6 games. Granted you've done well in those with exceptional defense but still. Add to that you lack a reliable goalscorer /striker (i don't know if Jesus is good enough to be that) which I see as the biggest problem.

All in all you still have least issues, so makes you favorites

We all forget they move their boxing days fixture to may, and still in the 4 cups competition. I hope FA will give them a 4 games in a week, then about time they will drop points, probably April-May.

It's not been glossed over... Their title credentials depend on how they navigate the torrid run in February, and fixture congestion should they make it far in the CL and FA Cup.

Plus they still have to play us at the Etihad. It will be tough but we have had joy there in recent years, especially under Ole.

They're favorites right now but by no means is it certain. Unfortunately I think they realise this too, Pep refuses to engage in title talk

I feel they will drop points in their current fixtures which is Pool, Spurs and Arsenal.

they still have United, Chelsea, Aston Villa (away), Wolves and Everton x2. They’re going to face a fixture congestion later on its going to depend on how close United or Pool are at that time. However at the moment they have too many players being in the form of their lives.
Can't say that about Sterling, Jesus, Aguero, Mahrez, Bernardo, any of City's LBs or DMs.

He's looking good recently.

But yeah, standout performers this season have been Dias, Stones, Gundogan and Cancelo. KDB before the injury was great but didn't hit the levels he's hit in the past.

You could say the same thing about Chelsea and they’re not even historical rivals of United so you saying that you hated them kind of undermines your position.

Money is spent to build a team, Pep already had Kompany, KDB, Silva, Sterling, Aguero & Fernandinho. That’s basically more than half of his main team. The amount of money you have spent since Pep arrived is considered madness for a team that already 60% completed in my opinion.

Chelsea were still a team with history of success, albeit in a bit of financial difficulty at the time when they were taken over, it's a bit different for me, I already saw them as a big fixture and team. City won the postcode lottery of being our neighbours, they were simply not very good and bought their status. City fans need to just own it and not dispute it.

Is the source of money the problem or that money has a negative impact on the competition? I think it is the latter, but hard to fix in our world.

On the other hand, there are now a couple of clubs which could and actually win the PL. The PL is also the most enjoyable league to watch. It might be hard to swallow for you right now, but United sits on a treasure chest themselves. It is only a matter of time, not money, until you lift the cup again.

Opta: "Manchester City have won their last 13 games in all competitions, the longest winning run by a Premier League side since Arsenal between March-August 2002 (also 13)."

Maybe it’s a generational thing. City were always a historical rival of United (though not as hated as Liverpool) where as Chelsea barely registered as a rival until the Mourinho era (they were a bit of a bogey team in the early PL era but never a genuine threat). City disappearing into obscurity in the mid-90s probably affected the way people in their late 20s and early 30s see the rivalry. Before both clubs won the lottery, City were historically the bigger club of the two as well.

Even as recently as the Ferguson vs Mancini era the rivalry was pretty intense. It’s only really since Liverpool became relevant and the only team who could consistently compete with City that this narrative has really taken hold.

It doesn't feel like they've won that many in a row, its quite strange. Suppose you just sort of stop noticing after awhile.

It’s the condensed calendar. They were in crisis about six weeks ago.

Also that includes a couple of FA Cup games against diddy teams. They’ve only won eight in a row in the league.

Weird I actually thought they were massively in the decline earlier in the season but the signing of Diaz seems to have ignited the whole team.

His pairing with Stones complement each other really well, it's almost like a low grade version of Rio and Vidic. Having said that it's still better than any other pairing in the league.

City have dominated the decade like we did 00-10 haven't they? We HAVE to knock them off the perch, not Liverpool.

It helps that 13 games only takes us back to 19th December! Schedule is so packed this season.

The only teams to score past us in that time are Arsenal, Chelsea and Cheltenham. Which means Ederson hasn't conceded a goal in 51 days by my count.

Long way to go. The media like to pretend otherwise because they've got memories of goldfish, but anyone within 6 points of top spot by the end of March is in with a chance.

It's just as everyone kept saying, if one team manages to put together a run then they'll be favourites. City look unstoppable at the moment, banging them in and also not conceding.

Realistically, for United to win the title from here we have to beat City at the Etihad, hope that Liverpool produce a reaction at the weekend, so we can get within touching distance again. We'll have to be faultless ourselves from here, because City are that kind of team that you can't let build up an advantage against you.

Funnily enough, it seems like the extended break around Christmas when City had issues with a covid outbreak was just what they needed, gave them time to recharge the batteries by the looks of things. Just goes to show the strength in depth. I think the hope for United here is if City take their eye off the PL in favour of the CL. The CL is very open again this season.

We'll definitely drop more points between now and the end, so like it or not, we will have to depend on City doing the same. I think they will. They've hit a purple patch recently but I would be shocked if their form doesn't dip at some point.

Liverpool A, Spurs H, Arsenal A, West Ham H, United H next. Now people say something, four weeks later it can be very different.
