Ole has done a brilliant job but we can't win the title with our keeper and back 4.

We are top scorers in the league but conceded the most goals in the top half.

Well he’s not wrong. Unless City have a meltdown of epic proportions, this title race feels like it’s done and dusted. Too many evenings like yesterday. Too many dropped points here and there.

United need 3 major first team signings and I just cant see that happening in the upcoming summer window.

I want us to at least finish 2nd. We're the 2nd best team in the league. Anything less than that would be disappointing. We're levels below City when it comes to defending.

We are in the race by virtue of it being an open season.

City as most of us predicted were playing well but not getting results, now they’re getting results and maybe they’ll pull away but there are a lot of games left. They are still without a top striker and there could be injuries coming. Personally I have always said we’re in a tussle for top four, nothing has changed apart from we were unexpectedly top for a short while.

Managers said UTD, not in the title race? Other pundits disagree, some think City will get a blip.
Is this a comment from a manager, letting the board, owners know there is still players needed to compete for a title?
Or is it just trying to deflect, the cockups and defend his players. I just think a win against Everton when, the next day 2 teams chasing the title play each other would have put UTD in a far better position.
What can the board do at this stage? It’s down to the players. The defence in particular is letting us down or I should say letting the excellent forward play, down.
The title race is far from mathematically over and it would be absurd to state that categorically . However Ole has just sent a message out to his players that they can forget it if they continue to defend.
It was suggested by one pundit recently that in order for us to be in with a real shot, we need to go the rest of this season unbeaten. I can’t see that happening and i don’t believe Ole sees that. An experienced keeper and the captain are not stepping up each game. Yes it may be down to the board that we haven’t made any defensive signings but FFS, a host of teams could have dealt with those closing minutes and none of them have world class defenders.

Said it before, it’s about how you play not always the personnel

With the defense we have it is impossible to mount a serious title challenge , they could very well even cost us top 4.

Never were in the race.

A title challenge is still some way off. Man city started poorly but have found form
Liverpool are struggling with being the hare from last season. Winning the title is easy compared to retaining it

Utd are still 2 players short for a title bid

It's been obvious all season. We've done well to be even in the conversation. I must have posted this 10 times. We lack a RW, a genuine goalscorer, short one quality defender and now it's obvious we need a GK.

Forget the title. We'd do sensationally well to come 2nd. Mark my words we are going to be in a dog fight for top 4 by the end of the season.

Ole is right. Not going to win any leagues conceding stupid goals and having stupid results at home.

Hopefully its a way of taking the pressure off the players, maybe they like us starting dreaming the last month or so and maybe its got to them performance wise. But thats trying to upbeat and dont have a lot of that in me at the moment.

The only race we're in is the 2-3 goal handicap we put up most games to overcome

Yes we are in a race, it's called a top 4 race if we are going to carry on dropping points by defending like we have in recent weeks against the likes of Sheffield united and everton, seriously there are lot of teams within plausible distance of 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

So despite all this progress. Jose’s team that Ole took over is still the best.

Great..........

I said it in the post match thread yesterday but we just aren't ruthless enough to be serious title challengers.

It's a shame because the league is pretty open this year and we should be in with a good chance but we're still 2 or 3 players away from being able to go the distance. We've dropped too many points in key moments already, and in games where we've been good enough to win too.

I dont think, and haven’t thought at any point, that we would win the league this season.

However people categorically stating City have already won it is a complete nonsense, there’s what 17 games left?

They are clear favourites but nothings guaranteed ffs.
Agree with this completely; people love overarching narratives that don't necessarily make any sense. Most people see Shaw as a liability/our best player depending on what month it is. Ole is the best/worst manager in the league depending on our last result. Supporting a football team is such an emotional investment with no input from the fan (in terms of team selection/work on the pitch etc.) that you will get these wild opinions on forums

In the last 10 PL games City have conceded 2 goals.

We conceded 3 in one game yesterday. They will need a massive defensive blip to open the race up and I just don't see that happening right now.

I would love for us to win the title, and I really thought we could win it. But like the games versus Everton last night, Sheffield United, or even the Arsenal game, are games a title-winning team would've won. City are much better than us and that bald feck Guardiola has evolved as a tactician aswell so we'll have to sit and watch them win the title with us being in the top 4 race. Sucks.

My patience is running thin. Can we just get our act together?

Didn’t do what was needed yesterday and in too many other games hence the points gap. However, a lot of that can be attributed to City’s cheating with the cancellation of the Everton game. They have looked a different team and you can pinpoint it back to that.

Agree, and is that why, oles come out and says not in the race, is he letting the club know that theres short on defence at least.

We have only ourself to blame, losing crucial points at home against Everton and Sheffield United. Instead of easy 6 points we only got 1.

Maybe, everyone else played through the xmas period every 3 days or so some 2 days. They played on 26th of dec and there next game was 3rd jan I think, that's a week. And that game was the quarter final of league cup, so there league game was another 3 days or so.

We were never gonna win the title. The problem is we're leaving second place up for grabs because we can't close out matches.

In all likelihood it seems we are out of it, however it is a funny season & lesser leads have been dropped in the past. With this Utd team, what I can say is, OGS has a knack of going on a good run and we have had a blip but whilst it is really disappointing, especially the Sheff Utd and Everton games we have got 5pts out of 12 in the league where we all think 10pts would have been title challenge worthy however the next 3 weeks could set things up nicely.

City fixtures - Spurs, Everton, Arsenal, West Ham - an away trip in Europe in between the last 2
Utd fixtures - WBA, Newcastle, Chelsea

If we are able to get back to winning ways, that City run could pose challenges especially without KDB and Aguero - There is a chance they come out with 5pts from those 12 and if we somehow pull a full house we could be within 4 points before our showdown with them - you never know.

In all truth, if we can ultimately try and keep some means of proximity with City it may keep us out of what is turning into a right mess for 4th, with Liverpool, Leicester, Chelsea probably fighting for the spots till the end.

Yeah if City weren't up against a team who have just recently lost three games in a row and another who you cannot tell which version of them is going to turn up then would have a little bit of hope of them dropping points in those games

True - but then again Spurs and Arsenal both do have some recent joy against them.

No faith in Everton though. Regardless of where we are in comparison to the top teams in the country we are still their cup final.

Is a piss poor excuse to lower the expectations and ease up the pressure.

Yes, we're not favorites but we should always be contenders. That type of weak ass statements shouldn't be accepted in a club like ours, losers mentality no matter how you look at it.

Ole knows he can't rely on that defence and you don't win titles with that.
He spent 145M of that defence, bought 3 players to fit in and got Henderson back. So if anything it's his fault we are still so shit in defense.

For me when Ole is saying we are not in the title race he is talking to Woodward and saying he has done the best he can with the players at his disposal- ie Lindelof, Greenwood as his own and only RW so far in the first team, no pure attacking alternative to Wan Bissaka like Telles to shaw, lack of CDM and maybe even a lack of creative Cm/CDM hence his abandonment of VDB.

I dislike how Ole said we should never have been talked about as being in the race...that’s just a loser’s statement to lower expectations. Players will think it’s good enough to make top 4 every season. I don’t care if times have changed, if people like Fergie or Keane even mentioned the phrase ‘top 4’ back in the day, the entire dressing room would have lost faith in them.

At the same time, to win a title, I believe we specifically need Upamecano, Ndidi and Sancho. These three will elevate us so much. I just don’t want Ole to say publicly that we never had any chance. Lampard did the same, and it just makes players rest on their laurels. We all know what happened to Lampard after a few months of repeatedly saying that.

I dont want to think of a title race.. This is the best we have looked in years. Not worrying about being in the top 4.. plenty of signs of improvement.
I want to enjoy watching us play..
I would rather enjoy this than constantly be annoyed and upset because some non existent title charge isnt going well.

Its step by step.. if we stagnate here, it'll be a problem.. but as long as we are improving, I have no problem with us going at this pace.
Next step.. Add a striker. Add a right winger (finally ? been 7 years since we let Nani go .. what the actual feck) .. Add a central defender.. 2 out of 3.. and we'll get even better.

Not really. Henderson has been given a year to learn and should get the chance.

He's bought two good defenders who would remain in the defence but he still needs a CDM & CB and even a GK if he wants one which he doesnt have and didn't buy. Klopp changed the whole back line. Pep has spent fortunes. Ole has only been able to change two players so far.
