That was the best performance of the season so far

And yes, I know we equalled an almost impossible record by winning 9-0 a few weeks ago. That was against a team ravaged by injuries playing most of the game with 10 men and a few minutes with 9, in which time we scored 3 goals.

This was genuinely perfect, aside from the first 2 minutes. Spotless at the back, solid in midfield, glorious in attack. You can’t ask for much more from a team, and this against a good side in a top league who’s heaviest defeat this season was a 0-2 loss to leaders Atletico.

Nothing but praise for the lads and coaching staff tonight.

Yeah, probably. The 5-0 against Leipzig might get a couple of mentions but the result flattered us in that one and there were long-ish periods when we could barely cross the halfway line.

Tonight 4-0 flattered Real Sociedad if anything.

Agreed. Strong defensively and looked threatening not only on the counter, but while in possession.

They are 5th in La Liga, finished 6th last season. They were so naive. It was like playing Leipzig without the intensity. I think this demonstrates the difference in quality between the two leagues.

I miss teams playing in our half, because we just destroy them. You can be guaranteed they will be playing a low block in the next game. Just like everybody else this season.

Actually think Everton at home was our best performance, fecking typical it was a 3-3 draw

Be more than happy with an injury-free 0-0 in the next game tbf. You can’t high-press this United team. Even if the likes of PSG, City or Bayern do it, they will get destroyed once we get through the first line of pressure. Pep has learned to be vigilant, and so has Tuchel.

We were very good but they really weren't. Makes it hard to compare. PSG are real contenders fot the CL this year so the deserved 2-1 win at theirs seems like our best result overall.

I agree with this. We were completely dominant in that game and should have won comfortably. Biggest mess up of the season.

I would say the PSG win was probably better as well.

It was encouraging because I suspect that there were more than a few groans from some fans when they saw McFred and James on the teamsheet. Just goes to show that we can be creative, in the right circumstances, with that midfield pairing.

McTominay is really coming along nicely. Looks like a player that will be bossing midfields in the future

The PSG away match is our best match this season considering the opposition, playing away and everything. We dominated them on their pitch. Shame this win is pointless now.

Granada is winning 2-0 vs Napoli at the moment and Villarreal is winning 1-0 vs Salzburg who was in CL. Sevilla managed to hold 1-1 vs Bayern early this season while Real Madrid went through in the next round of UCL with inter knocked out from the Europe in the same group. La Liga is still a top tier league like PL. I think the credit is on us today.

Yh agreed - best we’ve played for me as well. Not sure how much you can read into tonight, La Liga outside of top 3 (nowadays maybe just top1) is poor.

Yup, Real Sociedad is a very decent team and we absolutely battered them. Easily the best performance of the season IMO. Southampton you can point to the red card (though we did brilliantly of course), and other games we had to ride our luck at times or had a late flurry to get a good result. This one was dominant from start to finish IMO.

Yup.

This one was good as well, but beating Real Socieidad at a neautral ground is not the same as beating PSG away

It was a good game and apart from a few dodgy moments we were in complete control.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to BT Sport: "We scored some good goals and played some nice football. We deserved to win but maybe not by four goals. On a night like this when we find spaces we can be a dangerous team.

"We had to defend well, they have some terrific players up front and we earned the right to counter-attack quickly. They opened up and we got the spaces we wanted.

"Every team attacks you, it's about finding the moments to find the space. We are a work in progress, we are learning and some games we have not been able to win lately."
Did Ole really say that? We deserved to win by 7 or 8.

Considering they need to score at least 4 goals there is absolutely no chance they play a low block next game...

It was a good performance but nothing more for me, just can't get excited seeing Real Sociedad so careless.

But I fancy us in this competition. With a simple task of getting top 4 in the League, I think we can win the EL.

Yeah I did think PSG as well, not just the away game either, we were brilliant in that home game... in fact I'm changing my answer now

I don't think it's the best we've played at all. They really weren't up to much.
They had a lot of possession but didn't have any cutting edge and left us loads of space to run into.

PSG was a good shout.

Well Seville knocked us out 6 months ago.

Agree though Spanish league seems to have nose dived this season. Look at Barca the other night.

Re OP, think I enjoyed the PSG win more.

Too be far, they also got completely outplayed, only we didn't take our chances and they did.

I think Spanish teams just dont play like we do and dont tend to have as much pace on the counter with all of their front players. Maybe just the one. They try to keep the ball and work patiently. Sociedad had conceded 20 goals in 23 games this season in La Liga which is the 4th best defensive record. So against that style they do well. Against our style of pacy breaks they clearly got blitzed and some of their better players normally didnt look very impressive. Even in attack, Oyarzabal is normally a very good attacking player and he got no change out of our fullbacks at all. Januzaj got slightly more but other than a shot wide and getting AWB booked iirc, he was contained too.

There was a rumour we looked at Le Normand recently and his 50 million euro or so release clause was mentioned. He wasnt the worst of the Sociedad defenders today but he didnt impress at all against our attack either. But then again Upamacano had issues against our forward players as well and he's good enough for the champions league winners to want to sign him. Maybe our attacking players are just hard to play against if you don't sit 9 or 10 men behind the ball all the time.

Like many others have said they played right into our hands much like some teams did just after lockdown along with Leipzig at Old Trafford as well when they were well in the game

I personally don't agree; I think we were better against Leeds in the league, and Liverpool in the Cup. I feel Real Sociedad left a suicidally high line today, though we did a great job exploiting it.

This was my thought both at the final whistle in the Everton game, and again tonight.

They, along with half of the ‘elite’ clubs in Europe have no idea how to defend AND attack in one game.

Like Bielsa at Leeds, and historically Pep in the PL, they have one way of playing football and have no other ideas, failing to see that they picked off and annihilated.

Good performance tonight but massively aided by a team who were stupid and naive

Nah, they were laughably naive at the back - seems like they didn't do any research on our strengths

PSG and Leipzig were bigger - beating the Scouse in the cup was a big win also. We have had better PL performances too

Yeah it's so mental we beat the two strongest teams in our group but couldn't finish the job

Yup, all round the best and most importantly the most entertaining game of the season.
Great to see us attack and look like scoring from basically all of the attacks.

Wanna say it one more time?
Also wanted to throw the tie tonight i noticed

TBF that's an easier problem for us to solve than just getting outplayed and losing / drawing. If we're able to pin "lesser" teams back in their own half consistently, that's like 80% of the job done. The rest just depends on the quality of the attack itself and can probably be solved by throwing money at the problem.

They came in like they didn’t bother scouting the opposition or barely even watched United play anytime since Solskjær took over.

If there’s one thing you don’t do, it’s committing players and let United counter.
