I know I've banged on about this before, but Bairstow is an absolutely brutal red ball player.

I was genuinely surprised we brought him back in. Wont be near the side in England or Australia.

He can whack spin so we've taken a punt.

With how shit our openers are, we’re effectively asking the number three to be an opener in most tests. Bairstow is never that in test cricket.

It's a mute point :D

I remember thinking I was so clever when I came up with that in a drunken state.

It took me days to actually work out what the hell I meant after sobering up!

Back to the cricket. England's top order/openers are nowhere near good enough for a supposedly elite test side.

Sibley and Crawley are both young and starting out.

Burns deserves another English summer.

Harsh to evaluate the above at this stage, touring India is as tough as it gets.

Crawley I'd agree with.

Burns and Sibley don't look fit for purpose outside of England sadly. Can't see Sibley stepping up overseas, especially in the sub-continent.

Still really think we needed one of Stokes, Root or Ali to step up to the opener spot. None have come anywhere near managing it.

I know it's not ideal asking players to change their natural game, but given his development over the last 18 months, I wonder if Buttler isn't a terrible option to try out.

Sibley scored 87 one test match back. I'm no big fan either but it's very harsh.

Ali is 34, unlikely to every play red ball cricket for england again. Stokes wont open if he has any intention of continuing as an allrounder.

Root opening? I can't see it.

Sibley it's more of a confidence thing. I can se far more innings like today than the 87 you mentioned, or even anything close to that.

Stokes, Root and Ali all needed to make the transition a few years ago. None could do it now.

Still think Buttler isn't the worst call. Of all the "older" players in the squad, he's continued to develop the most and I think he's got more in his locker.

How come former cricket players make a seamless transition into commentary whereas their football counterparts are fecking atrocious?

75% of English cricketers go through the best schools in the country.

Footballers...do not.

Yeah this. Judging footballers against cricketers and rugby players always does my head in given that their background is infinitely less privileged.

Why was Crawley not picked in first two matches? Looks great.

Spin on Day 1, good job we picked 4 seamers
It's also bounced and gone through at good pace though hasn't it.

Think it's a fair call from England personally. Root will be effective as a part-time spinner on here so they've got options.

India's spinners are making this look like a raging turner but if our lads turn up and bowl full tosses and long-hops on it, it won't be half as dangerous.

That didn't looked like umpires call at all.
