International football should be his next port of call. I don’t think he has the drive to do it week in and week out anymore. Football has moved on and Jose has been left behind and hasn’t adapted.

I enjoy him as a pundit still though. Always comes across well

I doubt very much Spurs will win at the weekend but after that he'll have to win all his remaining games to get top 4 and have any chance to stay in his job. His time in England is probably finished. I could see him maybe going to Italy again at some point though.

International football maybe? Portugal?

LVG was considered past his best before he took the Holland job, but he was largely successful - enough to be given the United job anyway.

No, I haven't forgotten how that turned out :nervous:

Exactly, he really worked his magic...

@duffer :
18M Chelsea (2007)
17M Real Madrid (2012)
10M Chelsea (2015)
19.6M United (2019)
15-30M Spurs 2021?

One more big job and he might break the 100M

These others clubs can shoulder these costs because at some point they will eventually win and get over it.
Tottenham might be about to waste 40M+ paying off Poch and Mourinho with no trophy in sight (come on Pep!).
And then since he won't be getting any jobs after that, he can buy himself a club using this money and then appoint himself the manager

I fancy him to end up at Celtic who need a big name to wrestle the title back from Rangers or back at Porto next as I don’t see him at any other Italian club outside of Inter who aren’t going to get rid of Conte seeing as they’re about to win the league whilst PSG have just got Pochettino and Bayern won’t be getting rid of Flick.

He seems to be on 15M per year and is contracted for 2 more years with no break clause that i would assume gets him less than a full payout.
I don't know how UK laws works but i imagine he'd be due those 2 years right ? I'm sure there will be lawyers and big negotiations but there's no way he gets booted with less than a year's wages.
Nobody could have predicted this coronavirus crisis but knowing you were going 600m/1B down with a new stadium with an ageing squad was not going to be an easy ride.
They made it infinitely harder on themselves by hiring the short-sighted and imo, the worst option possible. Their rebuild is going to be forced on them instead of gradually planning it.
They are really in a load of shit. Levy needs to decide not just what to do about Mourinho, but also whether they will keep Kane and Son or try to cash in on one of them (if that's even possible in the Covid market). And those decisions are obviously kind of connected, as any new manager will need to be in full agreement with the plan for the squad.

While Mourinho has done a poor job, I also think the basic reality is that their squad needs a lot of changes. I hear Spurs supporters talk a lot about bringing in a manager who will play possession football but they really don't have the players. The squad just isn't good enough on a technical level. So if they are going to move in that direction, they will need a lot of investment and market activity, but how is that going to happen in a Covid market where their finances are constrained and there aren't a lot of buyers?

I think it might be too soon for that. He's clearly not the manager he was but an upper mid table team in Italy might take a chance on him (Napoli or Roma maybe).

Probably would require a complete meltdown from Portugal at the upcoming Euros, as Santos is contracted through 2024. The other looming possibility is him getting the England job - he's expressed interest in the past, and as much as he's fallen behind the pecking order at club level you'd be hard pressed to say he's not an upgrade over Southgate.

If he’s pissed off Harry Kane, there’s no way he’s getting anywhere near the England job after the Tottenham experience. I know Rashford and Shaw would want no part of him already so he’s lost some of the dressing room before even getting there.

Even LvG had to coach Alkamar and unless Jose sets his pride aside and goes somewhere like that, he’s cooked.

It might be hearsay because I think I heard it on a podcast, but the rumour is that Mourinho still has Kane and Levy's backing. And for the record I agree it'd be a terrible appointment, just putting it out there as a possibility as the timelines make more sense than him taking over Portugal.

I love to see him fail. Wish he’d never been our manager. Complete narcissist. Only relevant because of his role in the original plastic team, and actually their plasticity led to City, PSG corrupting football to the core. People need to realise if Chelsea win anything it’s a victory for all that is wrong with football, same as the other plastic clubs

Haha, nothing more amusing than fans with parasite owners trying to convince themself they prefer that to owners who actually want their club to succeed.

You're part of the reason that United are stuck with them for a very long time!

Probably not outside the realm of what the Glazers have done, to whose defense you have so heartily leaped for some reason.

Imagine defending a tapeworm in your own digestive tract by lashing out at others who, you know, didn't eat tapeworm eggs? Bizarre mindset.

I fecking hate the Glazers! They are bastards. I need a tapeworm then, by all accounts

AZ Alkmaar are probably the level in Holland that Spurs are in England. Then again AZ at least won the league with LVG and only 12 years ago as well.

United would have still won trophies without the Glazers, what would Chelsea have been if not for Roman and his oil money? United were a massive club before the Glazers and are still a bigger club than Chelsea with them. After winning the lottery 17 years ago, you are still a smaller club than United.

No one is arguing that Chelsea are a bigger club. The point is that your ownership has held you back from achieving more whilst ours has done more or less everything possible to breed success.

I don't mind @balaks and other Spurs fans being optimistic about the future under Jose. Afterall, as a football fan you're always hopeful of better days, especially at a time they were at the top of the league.

They were warned by us, just like we were by a lot of Chelsea and RM fans, but one always feels "But you didn't have xyz" or "this squad is perfectly suited to Jose because of age/riches/whatever". Hell, I still remember this place being a clusterfeck when we sacked LVG and were about to sign Mou. While he did well in his 1st season, which silenced his doubters (including me), his management style along with the conservative attitude was bound to bite him back.

However, what I don't get is how can a United fan still have fond memories of him? The guy literally threw not just all the players and staff and everyone under the bus, but started questioning the legacy of what we have been. I think throughout the 2018/19 season when he was incharge, the news from the club was always gloomy, there was nothing positive coming out, every lineup selection was a message to Glazers and Woodward. And I'm just scratching the surface here. His ridiculous statements on the then youth team players would have been a kick in the teeth for any young player. The storming out of press conferences, going on rants, etc. is not what you want from anyone associated with the club. And if anyone thinks that winning an EL and a LC is a "Get out of jail free" card for all this shite that he pulled off, they need to possibly need to give a long hard rethink as to why they support the club
Agree with every word of this.

One reason for the "Split in the squad" is surely the wage of a certain player.

That certainly isn't helping!

From the Athletic's article on the interview:

condemned his team’s performance three times as “a disgrace” and, while stopping short of revealing names, suggested there are deep divisions within the dressing room. He complained of a lack of togetherness and hinted that bitterness at limited involvement had undermined some of his team-mates’ professionalism. His assertion that Spurs were not even doing the basics, in matches or training, could easily be perceived as a criticism of management.
The implication is that some of his colleagues are taking the club’s supporters for fools with their public utterances and that standards have slipped both in training and on the pitch. Lloris is suggesting that, while some in Spurs’ number insist in front of the television cameras that they want to excel and drive the club on, their performances betray a truer picture of their commitment. It is also the first time he suggests those on the fringes of the team have allowed standards to slip, stewing in their own exasperation at a lack of involvement.

I wonder who Lloris means in particular, other than Dele which has been obvious all season. I'd guess the following players on Jose's side are;

Lloris
Dier
Hojbjerg (that's pretty much nailed on)
Son
Regulion

He's such a divisive manager in the sense that I do get the feeling that some players actually like him (e.g., Lukaku, Matic and Zlatan from his time with us), it's just others that seem to hate him too. The toxic one!

I doubt he will get to Portugal job too. Santos has the locker room behind him, the figureheads in the squad has prior spats with him too (Ronaldo, Pepe).

So in your mind the only way to be innovative is to invent a new formation? And anyone could have won those titles in the manner he did just because of the money spent?

No point discussing things if you're intent on writing revisionist history.
What on earth are you saying?
You said Mourinho is innovative. I asked you to show me how so. You bring up formations that he didn't invent and training methods that were used decades before he came in.

You respond by putting a laughing emoji and crying about me engaging in "revisionist history" without being able to respond with my very simple repost. And therefore resorted to a meltdown.

Do you want to try again? Show me how Mourinho invented "training with the ball" when Sir Alex Ferguson was doing that since the 80s?

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but the point is pretty simple. His achievements are down to the standards and intensity that he brought to the game. The attention to detail, new formations, different philosophy, psychology with the players. All of it.

His achievements are a direct result of the challenges he brought to other teams through his approach and methods.

No need to do anything with it :)
I hear you, but I dispute the claim because intensity and attention to detail aren't what we would associate Mourinho with if you were to listen to several interviews from a myriad of his players down the years. Plenty have spoken about the lack of of detail in training.

His approach tends to be perfunctory and his side's fitness is usually less impressive than that of other top teams because of the lack of drills (which flies against the intensity argument).

Some of the rest are a little vague and can be applied to most managers so they're difficult to respond to. Philosophy and psychology aren't quantifiable so there's nothing to pinpoint and I can't prove that you're inaccurate. I think that will boil down to how one views things. And I get your point of view.

Your point is really irrelevant. Plenty of players have come out and praised his coaching and training, using that one Hazard quote and labelling it as "mocking" is just bizzare. He simply said Conte does more tactical trainings than Mourinho which really doesn't mean much. After Conte left he also said he prefers Sarri's tactics over Conte. Make what you will of it.

All this is very funny when you see the build up to all this. Spurs fans were adamant that none of our players would make their 11 or how their squad was so much better. Jose is back, Pogba, Shaw, Martial are the problem. They have very focused and dedicated squad who will do anything for a win.

Dressing room is divided in the record time. Captain calling out his players and gave interview about dressing room division.

If anyone hasn't seen the Lloris interview post-game, I'd advise them to. Hugely telling and revealing. More or less confirms a split in the squad.

I watched the whole interview and I’m genuinely curious what did he say that confirms a split in the squad? He came down hard on the team though.

United and Chelsea fans need to stop arguing in this thread. We are here to do one thing, and that is laugh at Tottenham in unison :D

This really is a beautiful page to read now. Look at the state of Spurs fan on that page. All being smug.

Worse are the United fans who are somehow rooting for him to be successful.
It's hilarious seeing some of the Spurs fans in that thread haven't posted on the forum for a while due to the Spurs results since. Embarrassing that they can gloat and brag about Spurs when they have had a few decent results then go into hiding when shit hits the fan.

Fans of some clubs are so smug even when their club has done feckall for years. I can understand Liverpool fans being smug, and Chelsea, but it is irritating when you see Spurs or Newcastle fans being smug when their clubs are small time.

If mourinho goes this season or the next then the only two decent options I can see for him is the Portuguese national team or going back to serie a with either inter or Juventus with pirlo currently struggling as manager, the other outside bet would be Atletico as they would likely tolerate his football as they have had a similar style for almost a decade under simeone.

I'm amazed that levy was so naive to give mourinho yet another big salary packet and a lengthy contract, surely clubs would have learned by the time he finished with united that mourinho with a big salary and lengthy contract is a recipe for a costly big compensation pay out.
