It wouldn't be a surprise, they even try to ditch Park's legendary status by comparing him with Son in some reality shows. Most of young koreans now days are die hard Son's fans, that's why their media worship him in every shows.
Then they realise he plays for Spurs...

But then Son IS a far better player than Park ever was.

Ok thanks Linguo ;)

For anyone else reading the thread, Dr. (nee) Dwayne's post is an oblique reference to an actual city in China that the Simpsons writers knew about that is known for something that can't be posted on public internet forum viewed by children. Especially in a thread about Asians/race. It's in a province called Fujwan or Fujian.

 it was a direct reference to your correction of my French grammar.

Yeah, a humble Park himself also said so. But in serious question, What is Son's legacy?

Winning player of the month, puskas award, winning a gold medal in U23 Asian games when he was over age, and scored a crap winning goal against Germany?

Even Shinji Kagawa has a better legacy than him. He is like a Russle Westbrook of Asia, great individual talent without any achivement for his team.

Ole is not racist. Some if his favourite children are sons.

Well, the French usage is similar, which is what I was joking about with Qui Bono. :p

And I'm well aware of my formative years as an internet doctor.
Of course it's similar. (Link for the non-French and/or Quebecois)

You left out the verb. Were you trying to incite an international incident. It's the language of diplomacy for a reason.

Anyways, let's get back to the spirit of the thread, in which we are trying to incite an international-

Mon dieu.

 to be fair I am originally from western Canada originally so winding up the Quebecois is a requirement.

I get your point, but hardware is perhaps the only objective metric with which to compare players.

Unfortunately, YT clips & xG, etc. have brought subjectivity too much into the argument of who is the best / most talented player. It becomes an argument of who is most pleasing to the eye when seen in little snippets / who graded higher.

The scramble to anoint someone the absolute best at football is a fool’s errand to begin with. I am more in the vein of having groups of players as the best of something, even going as far as to define different eras of players to more closely compare like with like.

It’s enjoyable banter to a certain extent, but it also further tribalizes football vis à vis supporters & many take it far too seriously. But it does open eyes of supporters like myself who have no idea these players even existed / forgot how good players were back when their media exposure was a scintilla of what it is today.
I think you make a good point about the subjectivity affecting the judgement of players, especially when there is so much football going on that even your average avid football fan can only watch so many games a week, so a lot of the time when it comes to judging players (especially ones in a league that you might not watch as much) there is a lot of jumping to conclusions based on a small sample size. I've never actually spoken to anyone who uses xG as one of their main metrics when it comes to judging a player (though I have no doubt it's not uncommon) but that sounds pretty silly. I also agree about YT clips being a poor assessment tool, especially as they're usually just a compilation of highlight moments and give an unbalanced view of a player.

My problem with trophies being used as the primary assessor is that it ignores far too much contextual evidence. It is objective but I think it's better for comparing teams than it is individuals. Andy Cole and Shearer are a similar age and played in the same position, if you were to compare both their trophy hauls one would think that Cole was the much better player, but despite it being something like 10-1 to Cole I think the vast majority would rate Shearer as the better of the two (no disrespect to Andy he was class and is underrated in his own right).

Just the mentioning of Son’s name is racist. Even if talking about his own son.

It’s the way things are nowadays. Go look at the Salah thread on here. People rightly called him a cheat and someone claimed it was islamaphobia.

We are blaming Jose for having a go at Ole. If the it was the other way around we would be all supporting our Manager if Ole had done the same.
It's best to put this away now.
Who's saying that? Everyone is just agreeing Jose is a twat and trying to deflect away from the real problem of his absolute shite management of Tottenham.

Plus the news station weighed in with even more bollocks than Jose did.

I don't think anyone is blaming Jose. We all know why he did it - I am mostly impressed that he could sit there with a straight face and say what he did. A lot of things Jose has said has been disgraceful - this was not

When it says in the news that a player has been racially abused, I think it often means that players who are not white have been abused (e.g. on social media), not necessarily that this abuse was of a racist nature per se - I.e. that the abusers may be racially motivated even if they don’t use racist language. Perhaps that is the angle here.

Article Title: Son Heung Min scores 14th league goal...Abused Racially

[Anchor]

We have waited two months to be able to report on another Son Heung Min goal but this isn’t a matter where we can smile.

He has received racial abuse from opposition team Manchester United fans as well as the manager (Solskjaer). Tottenham have announced an investigation.

Reporter Kim Ki Beum has more.

[Reporter]

After 40 minutes of the first half, Son Heung Min scored the opening goal.

It has been two months since his last goal at West Bromwich and brings his league total to 14.

However, more than happiness, the scene turned to one of alarm.

After 38 minutes of the first half, Manchester United player McTominay (T/N: if you phonetically sound out how his name is spelled in Korean it comes to “Mac-To-Mi-Nee”) fouled Son Heung Min with his hand. While a goal was scored, it was ruled out due to the foul by VAR.

If you watch the scene in slow motion, you can clearly see Son Heung Min’s face being struck.

This spurred Manchester United fans, who watched this scene, to racially abuse Son Heung Min on social media.

"다이빙한 중국인" "개고기를 먹는 사람" "코로나 바이러스를 퍼뜨린" 등 심각한 표현이었습니다.

“The diving Chinaman”, “Dog meat eater”, “You spread COVID” are some examples but there were more severe ones.

Even Manchester United Manager Solskjaer made the following remarks, which resulted in an argument with Mourinho.

(T/N: Below are comments you can find from the post-match interviews that I’m translating back from Korean to English)

[Solskjaer/Manchester United Manager: “If my son did that, I wouldn’t give him food.”]

[Jose Mourinho/Manager: “I am very, very alarmed by Solskjaer’s words. It is a good thing Son Heung Min has a better dad than Solskjaer.”]

Son Heung Min’s Tottenham were unable to protect the lead losing 3-1 following a comeback.

[Son Heung Min: “It is always disappointing to lose a game… I don’t know what to say.”]

Following the Manchester United game, Tottenham announced on social media that they would be launching an investigation into racial abuse.

This has been KBS News Kim Ki Beum.

What a load of trollop if I were United I would take this directly to them by putting Ole and the Clubs name in Slander, I don't for anyone no matter colour or race condone racism of any kind and those who have racially abused Son on Social Media should be dealt with. However, I would be embarrassed to be a South Korean if I witnessed one of my own going down in the manner Son did and taking 10 men to bring him up, sack embarrassed - Ashamed. For someone who had to do military service does that show how weak their service actually is when someone like Vidic who also did military service in Serbia from what I have read and this thing that happened to him like being slapped much harder than the hand that Slightly HIT son when playing against Drogba. That for me defines a person and Son is a despicable excuse for a person if that is his reaction to being slightly hit in the face. Would he do it in real life, no.

You could say the same for Harry Kane, and lots of other players. He's still a way better striker than, say, Divock Origi, who's got a PL title and CL to his name. It's not his fault Tottenham or England hasn't won anything. I'm not saying team achievement doesn't mean anything, but it's not the only or primary thing. You can't judge an individual player on a result that 10 other players are equally responsible for.

Racism for what..
It might be fat shaming or something to do with body image but with race come on.
This is getting lost on me really, racism is clearly not good in any shape or form but I just fail to see what this is about..

It is like a parent finding out their child cheated and looking for every excuse under the sun to avoid acknowledging it.
