They own the football club and whatever money it makes. So in a way it's their money. They can even choose to not spend whatever United make and there is nothing we can do about it.
Accept that.
But we must remember that the club is owned by Manchester United plc which is in turn owned by the Glazier family. But as a plc, it is listed on the NY stock exchange with its shares being traded.
And as all United fans know, they used the value of the football club to leverage debt in order to buy the club.

Oh well it's definitely going ahead then: just heard Boris Johnson has said he will do all he can to stop it...

@DomesticTadpole Even if we somehow stayed in the EPL, this is going to make a mockery of that competition.
Let's say on a Wed evening Man Utd have a game against Barca and the winner of that will get top 4 of this superleage and get $ prize money, whatever amount is on offer which I imagine is high.

What do you think Man Utd will do if they have a premier league game a few days before, which is now worth a lot less because there will be no champions league places on the line. Will they a) go full strength for the integrity of the game or b) play a second string and place more emphasis on the midweek game.
That's true.

Maybe they will have a raffle?
Even then it's wierd. If you join it, you cannot afforded to be booted out since you will be blacklisted by UEFA/FIFA for life.

I would never join it if I weren't certain of a lifetime membership.

I wish some of the players like Marcus came out and said something about it!
An absolute joke. We all knew that the UEFA and FIFA are greedy and something had to be done to stop them, but clearly this is the wrong way to do it.

that still annoys me - even more than this later attempt at legal piracy

Slightly different view, as a football fan first. Feck it, let them do it. Kick them out of the domestic leagues, keep the Champions League for those who remain and put in place some real FFP rules to stop the plastic clubs from happening again. The quality won't be the same, but I'd enjoy watching Leicester and West Ham battle it out for the title and Wolves vs Ajax in the Champions League.

We can get our game back, it'll just be at the sacrifice of these 12 clubs. Crossy and 'global audience' can watch this Super League crap, we'll watch some real football again.

Seriously though. Everyone is in uproar about this and you're trying to discuss whether we should only register Fred for the SL games as he typically plays better in the CL. You're massively out of touch.
I'm just over the outrage. It looks like it's happening so I'd like to discuss how its going to happen and what it's going to look like but it doesn't seem like we're ready for that yet so we can have this discussion at a later date when everyone has calmed down I guess

Money was the driving force behind the PL forming in 92, that was a literal break away league but now we want to replace the CL with a different European competition it's a problem? Sky talk about football like it didn't exist before 92. Leeds won the league in 91, no one gives a shit. Clubs that generate big money will always follow it, regardless of what we think.
The main issue is the super league is a closed shop. No relegation - it's an american sports model and is the antithesis of what football is about as a sport.

The money is brought up because the break away clubs are willing to sacrific the sport and all it's history and tradition for a bit more money.

Don't the 3 Spanish clus have to run this past their "socios"? Can the boards and the respective presidents just decide that they're going to join a breakway competition? Seems like a pretty major thing to decide without going past their socios.

I may be in the minority here, but the games been gone for sometime already, so this step doesn't not surprise me one bit.
Bring it on, just make sure that we get SuperVAR and SuperRefs on board as well.
Current one are shite.

Are people ignoring the fact that UEFA reforming the competition anyway? It's barely going to be different than the super league anyway.

I wonder which TV networks are in on this? There must have been negotiations going on already. Have Sky been left out in the cold?
I reckon Amazon. They'll have the data from their trial of prem games.

It seems daft to even discuss since it's all up in the air. Besides, Fred won't be here if this happens as we'll be rich us feck and will have a ridiculous team.

These lot has no understanding of football.
If this was discussed 20 years ago, would Atletico Madrid be considered? City? Chelsea? Who are these people to decide Spurs belong to the most elite of the football rather than Ajax? These idiots think like it is a superhero movie. They think football just like they think Avengers. But, ever since I started watching football, 2019 Ajax has been one of the teams that I enjoyed watching the most. I loved how they fearlessly attacked Real Madrid. It won't be half fun to watch those boring Atletico Real Madrid games over and over again.

I will protest it. I will not watch it. It is disgusting. The arrogance and misunderstanding of these people are beyond belief.
Exactly. It's arbitrary in terms of era. Now Spurs are among the valuable clubs, who's to say that is still in 50 years time. But because of this guaranteed qualification they have secured a structural advantage over the likes of Leicester and Everton.

People still didn't realized how well planned and backed the new ESL is. We are talking about major companies already offering billions advanced for it to happen. I hope it's a major bluff, though, because if it's not, it can tottaly become true.

400 teams playing every four minutes! I know there would be less games but boy it was more exciting when it was a straight knockout competition between teams who had won their domestic league!

With the owners and CEO's having exposed their hands and coming out as basically traitors; Could it be that they will see no way to come back into the fold of UEFA/see's that their future profit projections aren't coming to life - that they decide to sell?

Wishful thinking I know, but I just don't see a way forward for them if this all blows up in their faces
