Anyone commending PSG for not joining should take a second to remember Qatar owns Bein Sports and is hosting the next Fifa World Cup.

The minute that tournament is over and they can get out of their CL tv deal, they'll be signed up to this thing quicker than you can say "war crimes, shmor crimes".

The UEFA isn't a big boy, i kind of hope that you realize it, they have been blakmailed and caved at every turn for more than 30 years by the clubs that have now left. The UEFA is nothing economically without the popularity of the CL which has been destroyed by the ESL and in general they are nothing compared to JP Morgan or the other actors in the ESL.

It does not matter who you think is a "big boy". This will come down to the law and UEFA/FIFA etc will use all lawful methods to stop this. That means, if lawful, they can cut out the clubs from all other competitions etc.
I do believe UEFA have enough money for some decent lawyers, don't you?

I know everyone's terribly excited about this banning business but National Teams don't need UEFA's blessing to compete in a World Cup or Euro Cup, they can simply create one that isn't affiliated to them.
The NWO Cup :nervous:?

That has nothing to do with the point made.

What a mess that is! If we're punished for this, our players and fans will be livid. So disappointed in our club, the Glazers (and all other owners) are such greedy scumbags

Without wishing to bash Americans here, this looks like a very U.S.-driven plan doesn't it. Regional competition with no threat of demotion or expulsion.

And in Florentino they've got the perfect puppet. Loves the glamour, hates Uefa... bet the Glazers and FSG love him.

Will be interesting where this ends. Imagine we'll see an end to transfer fees. Franchises? Wouldn't bet against it.

Bloody hell, since Ed and Glazer took over the club nothing positive come out from them.

Man utd being so badly run for so many years and now this. If this goes through its time to stop supporting this shits.

I love all this talk about banning players and what not. As if they had any input in these decisions.
No but its the biggest leverage FIFA/UEFA have. Players will be getting anxious now with Euros coming up and WC. Last for some. And in general, if you can only play in closed shop competition, then after a while the novelty will wear off. To get to the clubs is to sanction the players, unfortunately.

It is being bankrolled by JP Morgan.

Yes, I've said this before but the reason I defended our club over ffp and thought ffp was a sham was because it was an attempt to stop us from getting lucky (which is what we did), so to see us try and do the same and prevent others clubs having the luck/success we have disgusts me. I'd give back every trophy since 09 in a heartbeat to have nothing to do with this. If my club don't come out soon and say "we fecked up" and walk away from this regardless of the punishments, I will walk away until the entire board and owners are removed.
Fair comment.

No they can't, FAs would have to leave the confederation and no FA, which in most if not all countries are directly linked to governements, will follow the money grabbers.

Honestly, I cant help but feel this whole Super League thing is being blown well out of proportion. The uproar surrounding it seems so OTT for what it actually is.

OK, so some of the biggest teams in the world want to leave the Champions League/Europa League and participate in a new competition instead. I don't see what is so outrageous about that. Is it because they will be earning more money? If so, would you not be against it if they were to earn less money than they are now?

As a fan, I would much rather see Man Utd vs Barca, Liverpool vs Madrid etc when european competitions are played rather than Man Utd vs Shaktar or Madrid vs Slavia Prague. There are going to be opportunities for other teams to qualify, albeit less available slots so it will be harder to qualify but this will only mean the calibre of opposition entering the competition will be better for it.

I also fail to see why any organisation except UEFA are against this so intensely, and cant help but think they are saying what people want to hear. UEFA are simply upset that their cash cows are looking to leave them and play in a new competition. Lets not forget that UEFA are due to announce their own planned changes to the Champions League format, which is bring it one step closer to being a super league itself, except they will be in control of the revenue so all is good in their world.

Although we dont know much about the new proposed super league, I do feel that once they have taken off and gain traction they would be wise to introduce some sort of qualification / 'relegation' / 'promotion' so that they can strike a balance between the biggest fan base and best performing teams.

Ceferin seems quite upset.

I mean we're all seething, imagine being in charge of the competitions right now. I'd be throwing chairs

At this point I'm on their side, hope all these clubs including our own are humbled. Dock points and let Leciester West Ham fight it out for the title.

Twitter is full of people actually believing the Postillon (German equivalent of The Onion) article about Schalke joining the Super League after Bayern, Dortmund, and Leipzig refused. Hilarious times, if it wasn't so infuriating

As much as I'd like to see it happen, I can't see how UEFA or the PL could punish the clubs involved right away. They have only announced an intention, and haven't technically broken any laws or rules w/ respect to their actions.

Good to see. Hopefully more of this to come.

Indeed. But do you really think that the Glazier family hasn't already thought about this.
They are businessmen. And the only thing businessmen understand is - will it affect the bottom line.
Nothing hurts them more than reduced revenue.

Every one of the 6 greedy vultures need to be hit with a drop in season ticket sales resulting in a big reduction in actual v planned revenue.
And nobody buying their club merchandise. Another big earner.

They have shown how greedy they are and that it is all about money.
Fine. We should make it about money as well. Keep our money in our pockets, not theirs.

12 clubs seceding from the union!

I bet Schalke fans would snap their fecking hand off

ESL is such a cowardish name. Use proper names for the tournament: European League Soccer or European Series, or European Football League.

So the top cats at UEFA and Super League club execs are now going at each other and revealing they aren’t all as nice as they come across. These are some big boys with serious power and connections.
Nice guys finish last.

Business comes down to doing what's best for yourself and morales go out the window when it comes to money.

At the moment, correct.

It is being bankrolled by JP Morgan.
Ah yes, the company that received the most bailout money in 2008 when they were one of the primary actors in crashing the global economy. If any company belonged in this shitshow it would be them.

Going through the thread now, so something might change in the next 60+ pages, but this would be fecking awesome. Even though I pretty much hated PSG until yesterday.

Stop this nonsense. Do you actually know why PSG is staying put for now?

2022 Qatar.

That is pretty much the only reason maybe coupled with the hard cap of spenditure on player wages/revenue at 50 percent.

They won't cancel the CL or EL this year by the way. The losses in broadcasting revenue will be enormous.

You could probably claim they're "bringing the game into disrepute" or "damaging the integrity of the competition"

They'll have some wording that they can fit it into.

You can remove the titles but you can't erase the memories so that's pointless.

It's the owners that need removing but that's pretty much impossible to do, unfortunately we are one of the many groups of fans that have lost our club. United hasn't been a fans club for over 20 years but we still held on to some of our identity, today that identity and the history are in complete tatters as the Glazers finally get what they set out for from day one. The cash pig has potentially found them a bottomless pit, not content with a vast amounts of money made in the Premier League and Champions league they want their cakes and eat it.

I actually feel slightly ashamed at what has become of United, but part of me isn't surprised in the slightest. Liverpool on the other hand have been happy with how FSG have been running the ship so today has been like a hammer blow to the head for them.
The governments have an option they just don't have the balls and are too bent to actually care. These football clubs are century old cultural institutions with generations of memories and sentimentality tied to them so an Act of Parliament could be passed banning foreign and corporate ownership of these clubs forcing these cnut owners to sell off to fans with the first priority obviously going to ST holders and club members.

They don't because in part they are part of the layer that's looting at the expense of the common man. The players, pundits, managers and other stakeholders are only opposing because they haven't seen the size of the cheques the ne League will be signing. There is a real possibility that after all is said and done we will see FIFA and individual FAs betraying UEFA, I figure there is a lot of horse trading going behind the scenes and this unity by the associations won't last considering the amounts involved.
