Don't understand that take. There's not much he can do or say at this point. He stated his dislike pretty clearly and can't openly shit on the owners now, can he? He doesn't hold the cards and he (and us) have yet how the whole shit-show is going to unfold. There's still ample time for him and others jump the ship.
There is. He is wealthy man who if he felt that strongly would probably walk

This is not free market in action. Why do people keep saying this is an inevitable result of the free market. That's as dumb as saying USSR communism is the inevitable result of socialism. A free market contains regulation.
light touch regulation, so as long as the basics are covered, sporting integrity and fairness don't come into it. otherwise wed have have FFP with teeth and wage caps years ago.

I wonder where UKIP is on all of this. This is a bigger violation of English culture than chlorine rinsed chicken or whatever they campaigned on during Brexit or do they wag their tails and be good boys when the rich white folk are involved.

They'll also get feck all money out of it compared to the 15 even if my some miracle they manage to win it.
Its all such a mess, where exactly are they going to sell this to TV, brand it, staff it, promote it in such a short space of time? Surely they will have to draw up their own charter and in game rules?

My thoughts exactly, they're getting absolutely fleeced and handed a backhand slap in the face on the top of that. This goes for the national leagues as well. You can't have the cake and eat it, I personally think that the FIFA, UEFA and all FAs (who also have a lot to lose) will do everything they can to prevent it from happening and that includes kicking out the Snake League teams from every competition, even if it means losing money. They have everyone on their side but those teams and a minority of the fans.

And you're also right about the odds. It could go either way, really, even f obviously the founding teams already counted on the backlash and checked the legal side of it.
I think the clubs have badly miscalculated public feeling and I think UEFA, FIFA and the respective leagues are potentially buoyed by that.

I also think it's arguable that the clubs have overplayed their hand, in terms of leverage. The idea that the PL collapses if these six clubs move on, I don't buy. The product will, obviously be diminished but it's still a saleable product without those teams precisely because it'll have what the ESL won't - competition and a strong league overall.

Some fans on here think the world starts and stops at Man United and Liverpool but forget, Chelsea and Man City are just Everton or Newcastle with billions of pounds. Arsenal and Spurs don't have any more history that loads of other clubs. The rich owners will still be sniffing around the PL and see value in investing and a new "Big 6" may emerge. Millions watch average PL games worldwide every week.

In Spain, Barca and Real have had fortunes in state aid. Are the Spanish Government going to sit by and let them walk away and destroy the League structure? I doubt it.

The legal side will, obviously be extremely complex but all of the PL clubs will, I suspect be contracted to one another to compete in the PL competition. Steve Parish was on MNF last night and made the point that if those six clubs think they can go off and set up their own league, and break with the current contractual agreement, then the other 14 clubs could arguably do likewise and exclude them. The European side of it is more complex again, but as you say, the relevant bodies may well be prepared to put a real marker down.

The threat to stop players playing internationally is significant. Even if they set up their own competitions - how long does that take? Is it ever even viable? Where do all the other players come from you need to support it over and above a 12 team league? Would countries have two national teams and where would the rest of those players play, because it wouldn't be in the FIFA sanctioned leagues. It's a logistical nightmare and a nonsense idea from people who have no idea about football. And the vast majority of the players in the ESL won't be that much better paid (given the projections of income) to make it worthwhile not playing for your national team, especially if you can play for another team in the PL and still get a big salary.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kroenke was pushing for it with Arsenal out of Europe. It's been planned for years though. There was a leak that Bayern were planning this 3 years ago.
He was hence why he's one of the chairmen. Kroenke would've been in total agreement with the Glazers over a closed competition. Both NFL owners.

Tight but doable.
I'd just have two helicopters instead of three.

Feck Messi, Ronaldo, De Gea, Haaland and all the rest of the greedy bastards (also stupidly driven by/allowing agents to blackmail clubs... especially that fat pizza munching tw@t).

It's easy to say this was owners not players (it was) but I don't care any more. Owners, players, agents, sponsors... all fair game now because it's them or the sport/club I've loved for half a century.

Yeah so they better shut their mouths now that the sport is about to be ripped apart right? Same as Neville once got paid by the glazers and works for sky, he better shut his mouth too, after all they all take part in society, selfish fecks
No, its shining a light on just how football clubs only hold their self interests at heart. Too many clubs gets punished in England for being successful and too many cant see past their nose. There should have been as much uproar over clubs trying to hold restart hostage by voiding relegation and keeping the promoted sides out as there is over this.
feck the SL, root the sport out from top to bottom with wage and transfer fee caps etc and do it right. It isnt always big clubs bad, smaller clubs good. Everybody is just as bad as each other, they just dont have enough pull to use it.
This is a watershed moment for English football and i dont want to see it wasted with cyncial bullshit.

PL should leak an idea saying well promote 2 more teams from the championship over the next two seasons, plus lower leagues incl non league and level out the 86 remaining clubs plus 2 extra to 4 leagues of 21. Suggest they'll just move on.

I don't think that it's the idea. My suspiscion is that the 5 invitee are auditioning for being part of future expansions. Basically you invite teams and see if they bring enough revenue, if they do you offer them a share in the company and the 15 become 16. Rinse and repeat.
So, a rich club that brings money in but finishes dead last gets offered a place but a team who out preforms them but brings in little revenue gets relegated?

I don't get why it is illegal for the FA and UEFA to ban clubs and players from their own competitions. It's their competition, they make the rules surely? They ban whoever they like.

It's like Perez making the rules of the Super League up as he goes along, starting Madrid on 13 titles and all that crap.
You'd like to think so but as we saw with City and PSG that is not necessarily the case.

No matter what has gone before, this is the biggest change football has faced for decades or since ever. What’s the purpose or need of People nit picking at players and clubs speaking out now just because they haven’t agreed or done everything they would have wanted in the past.

I agree with your post, I disagree with taking swipes at players and clubs speaking out about this mess

Technically they 'owe' Abramovich around a billion.

So while he's pumped money in, it's on the books as a loan that has to be paid back.

EDIT: I didn't realise Spurs were so badly in the shit. Clubs should not be able to go 1 billion into debt. It's nuts
The debt is actually on the books of a company that owns 100% of the shares of the football club which in turn is owned by RA.

The debt isn’t just what he has injected into the football club it also includes money invested to buy the original shares from Bates alongside a couple of other investments

In many ways it’s no different to turning loans into equity although that said it was explained to me that should the holding company ever sell the football club the debt would be repaid from the proceeds which in turn would reduce the profit which in turn would reduce any tax liability

No he should have helped when the Utd fans were trying to point this out. He should have used his platform to raise these issues before they happened.
But he was happy because the game was still bringing him loads of cash, it´s far too easy to point a finger and say I told you so after it has already happened.
All of these authorities had already been warned and many fan clubs had already brought up these issues years ago but no one listen and the party was left to run riot because it made them millions.

Coming out now for me is just a bit too little too late, Gary and Carra plus many others should have hammered the lawmakers years ago to involve fans into decision making of the clubs.
Just find it rich to be acting all surprised and shocked right now.
So he should shut up? Or speak against this now and have people saying wahhhh you never spoke out before? It’s never too late

How are Chelsea in bigger debt than Barca?!?
This is my entire problem with the whole situation.

Perez talks about this concept as if it's saving the game? From who? Himself? For being completely unable to manage a club within it's means? For removing equality in his own league?

Then there's our lot, are we saving the game from owners who pile mass amounts of debt onto a club? Or those who run clubs as a second rate organisation, and cry poverty when the performances on the pitch aren't on the same level as they achieved under the greatest manager in football history? A manager who achieved his success in spite of these parasites.

I could do this for practically every club in this "league". But we can all see through it, we all know his has been set up to create a bottomless well of guaranteed cash. Cash to help circumvente the billions these clubs have pissed up the wall through their own incompetence.

Which begs the question, why in the feck are City in here? They are the only Club that is "sustainable" from this who's who of organisational incompetence. They should be the ones who break off, they have absolutely nothing to gain and everything to lose.

I don't know if this was already discussed but according to the Twitter account @FutbolBible (I'm not allowed to post links yet) Super League games scheduled in the Middle East, Asia and North America
BREAKING: There will be many European Super League games scheduled in the Middle East, Asia and North America to help generate more revenue for all the clubs involved in the competition. Dubai, New York and Shanghai are the current hotspots.

The arrogance of these clubs that they even believe they should be allowed to continue in this or next seasons EL/CL is infuriating.

"We should be allowed to compete in your competition... until we start our competition, at which point nobody is allowed unless we say they are" .... Wankers.

This is true. I think there’s a genuine concern out there about how this “content” is “consumed” and without radical change the whole house of cards will fall down.

Can’t help wondering if we’re all just old men yelling at clouds and the consumers that matter to the money men are fully on board with this. They’ll have researched the hell out of the proposal, that’s for sure.
I wonder about that too. Given how clandestine this whole thing was, and how extremely loose it seems to be (see Perez going full Trump) I question not only how well prepared this was in terms of PR, but also whether they have anything tangible. Doing huge research would likely raise a lot of awareness. Suppose they actually did research this extensively, and it didn't raise eyebrows, did that research take into account how horrific PR would impact the continuation of said process?

The only thing I'm relatively sure of is that they'd be willing to lawyer up like the Church of Scientology to win this in the courts. But so so much damage has been done.

I have a feeling that old men yelling at clouds in this instance is actually a huge and varied demographic.

Again, look at the people pushing this through. It screams incompetence. Most of these clubs have been run incompetently.

Most people outside the UK support the 'Top 6' (I know not currently). The PL rights would probably be worth 10% of what they are now. And the Top 6 can have a breakaway top 6 league or invite the Glasgow teams and pick up probably 100% of the PL money that's currently on offer.

Woke up and forgot this was a thing, thought it was all a bad dream. This is all so fecked up and ridiculous. Can't get over how disgusting it all is, and more than anything I'm disgusted (but not surprised) United are one of the ring leaders.

Of course there'd be eyes on it, but absolutely nowhere near as many and the quality would drop off a cliff.

The competition loses its history and prestige with no Liverpool, United or Arsenal in there.

They make up nearly half the league titles won in the leagues history, it simply wouldn't have the same glamour to a large section of football fans.
Okay - are you suggesting then, that rather than lose these "big six" the PL would let them stay and have the same six either dominate every year, because they're richer than anyone else, or (and I think this more likely) treat it like a cup competition and save their best players for ESL games?

Liverpool and United, are the biggest loss. Spurs and Arsenal are average sides with no more "history" than a lot of other English clubs but who happen to have shiny, London based stadiums. How many fans do they have globally? I suspect not many. Chelsea and City are Everton or Newcastle with a rich owner, nothing more.

The product will be diminished without these clubs but the alternative is arguably just as bad, if not worse. The popularity of the PL is because of its overall strength and competitiveness (over and above other Leagues around the world) and this takes that away.

People massively overplay this idea of "history". The type of fans who the PL makes it's money from worldwide don't care - that's why they're sitting Kuala Lumpur in Man City or Chelsea shirts which they might well swap for Everton, or Leicester, or Wolves if the game is marketed correctly. The real fans, who it does matter too are exactly the type of fans who will turn off the PL in their droves if these clubs are allowed to stay and devalue the competition.

Most of this post is what I’m hoping happens to these rich selfish fecks. Leave their national leagues for their tinpot competition and a few or most players leave SL teams to join PL and other league teams to play in a serious competition leaving these rich pricks out in the wilderness. Just so disappointed United are involved in it.

It's been dragging me down ever since the news broke. It's really depressing me.
