I think the 50+1 rule is a good idea but there are many potential negatives with it, the biggest drawback of the 50+1 rule is that it limits the financial capacity of the clubs. Without being able to captain the ship, external investors would not like to channel heavy funds into a team and current investors might decide to leave.
This will mean the major sources of PL club finances will be limited to the revenue generated through operational activities like match tickets, shirt sales, et al.
This is why Bayern is so dominant financially in the Bundesliga.
So I can see the big 6 doing 5 but the likes of Evertin, Leeds, West Ham may struggle to get potential investors.
Top players will want to play for the top clubs but I’m not convinced it’s at any cost. If there’s an international ban etc what are they going to do? At the end of the day Fernandes or Salah or Foden still have to live out the rest of their days in their country ( post career). The pressure of the public saying that they’ve sold out their countries could be damaging. Or the more idealistic side; they just might value playing for their countries rather higher than money.

It’s not unlike politicians to flip flap and go whichever way the wind is blowing is it? Fecking politicians.
True, but it's just tough to find anybody who is doing this for 'just' reasons, right now.

They just don't care if they misses out though. They will come back stronger with more state funded money next year. The system is already broken. PL and UEFA shouldn't have allowed state funded small clubs to invest heavily and break the balance.
Missing out on the CL currently has financial impact on a team like Arsenal. Missing out multiple times even more so. Which leads to a situation where a player could easily opt for a team like Leicester over a team like Arsenal this summer, because they're currently a better side more likely to play in the CL.

An ESL kills that. Players will never opt for Leicester over Arsenal, because Arsenal are guaranteed more money and a permanent place in the most high profile competition.

Athletic are saying Boris is going to block it apparently
Haven't seen anything on that, but there's an interesting Daniel Taylor piece where he talks about Fergie's complicity in the Glazer ownership. Taylor says:

"The Glazers are no longer just a Manchester United problem. They are now a problem for the whole of football."

That's the thing with poisonous scum..

Watching ITV news right now and the reporter (something Khan *not Sadiq Khan*, didn’t catch his name) said he’s spoken to government officials personally and they’ve made it clear they’re not happy and they’re going to do everything in their power to stop this

It started with Sky. People say this is different because it’s a closed competition, and while that’s true, what we’re seeing is a natural evolution of the commercialisation of the game, that started with the Premier League and Sky Sports. It’s all the same. This has been inevitable for a long, long time.
I don't know if people making this comparison have it quite right. I remember the shambles English football was with hooliganism in the 70s and 80s. No-one wanted to touch it as a "product". I think Sky took a bit more of a risk at the time than people are giving them credit for. This Super League, by contrast, is pure greed.

why do you believe him? just curious why many are taking what Perez says as fact?

His quotes make the whole thing sound like a bail out for Real and Barca.
Oh yeah, no doubt that he is a lying prick. But one thing i do believe him and others. They are all businessmen. And they would not started this and risk billions if they didn't made legal preparations.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these 12 clubs are pushing an agenda (they know is doomed to fail), as a cynical attempt to broker huge concessions going forward from UEFA and/or their respective league associations.

Would anyone else be surprised if that is the eventual outcome?

Rugby players who earn significantly less than footballer and would have a solid reason to always choose money, generally don't. They make sure to be able to play for their country for a while and sometimes eventually go abroad to collect checks.

PL signed their own death warrant when they let those parasites take over us.

No. Currently we do not have 15 teams that are guaranteed fixed big prize money regardless of performances, prize money that are literally impossible to get for other teams. If United finish 7th in the PL, they do not get CL prize money the following year unless they performed on the field and won the Europa League.
How exactly were City and PSG spending huge money despite zero global appeal ? How did Chelsea become front runners back in 2005? Think about this and you will answer your own question .

This is ridiculous because this entire scenario is the Tory Party philosophy, now suddenly they want to restrict the market from doing what they actively encourage in other industries.

If City steps out of it, I might change my vote to yes. Feck them and their corrupt money, they are a massive reason why we are in this situation anyway. Would be nice for clubs to be able to compete with them with their own money.

Do you somehow think this Super League fixes that problem in any way? Those same billionaire owners are the ones literally writing the rules for this new competition.

I didn't ask a question, I answered yours about the ability to close the gap and whether it was the same as we currently see.

There's only one United!
So I just saw Shearer saying Chuck these 6 teams out, and Infantino saying Youre either in or you're out.
I therefore ask:

Is it the fans fault?
Is it the club's fault?
Is it the players fault?
A big NO NO AND NO,

Then you have to punish all the greedy owners of these clubs but not the grass roots fans, players and clubs of these great (well most of them!) historically important teams .

.........and why in the first place did you let them be taken over by these type of owners?
We could all see why they bought these clubs but why didn't you stop it in the bud!?

.........and why Fifa/UEFA had/has such great stories of corruption?
Where is all the money going or gone before?

Supporters, players and clubs should NOT be penalised for something which was suddenly sprung on everyone .

Footnote: Feck Shearer.

  • The 15 “founding clubs” of the Super League would share 32.5 per cent of these commercial revenues
  • A further 32.5 per cent would be distributed between all 20 participating teams, including the five sides invited to play in the competition each year
  • Twenty per cent of revenues would be allocated on “merit” or be dependent on performance in the competition
  • The final 15 per cent would be shared based on broadcast audience size
  • The competition winner would receive just 1.5 times more than the bottom side. By comparison, that ratio in Spain’s La Liga is closer to 3.5 times
  • Clubs will be also allowed to retain all revenues from gate receipts and club sponsorship deals
  • Super League clubs have committed to using only 55 per cent of their revenues on “sport spending”, such as player salaries, transfer and agent fees, according to people familiar with the terms
  • Super League clubs have also signed up to a “tax equalisation” clause so that “income tax on salaries shall be normalised and calculated at a rate of 45 per cent”, according to people with direct knowledge of the contracts

Been thinking the same thing. To be honest I'm amazed they aren't supporting this, if it takes off the big 6 stand to make a monumental amount which would be even more lucrative for the UK economy.
