Maybe he is just happy to play for club he grew up loving and supporting ? Whether they get trophies or not. Have we ever thought maybe that's why he signed on ? Maybe staying on with them isn't a bad thing for him.

People like to see class players competing for and winning things, oh the humanity...

No one's saying clubs should sell talent for peanuts but some of these valuations are absurd and serve mainly to reward player loyalty by making it near impossible for them to go elsewhere
This isn't a logical way of looking at it because the very reason they sign these contracts is not always loyalty, but they are doubling or tripling their wages for the term of said contract.

It's not just some gesture of good will. The relationship between contract length, value and wages is quite transparent, why would Villa want to sell a player for a fee you deem reasonable when they have agreed to pay this player vast sums come rain or shine, terms which the player has happily agreed to for the rewards it will bring. That already tells all concerned the value of the player to the club. Nobody of their right mind gets into that contract without assessing these things, and as it is the player not the club that signs on the dotted line, that is where the main responsibility for the players future prospects lies.

Looks like I ruffled a few feathers who started questioning my loyalties, Citeh forum etc etc. Just saying that as a United fan, I would like to see the best players playing for our team, winning glory and accolades along the way. I simply hate the fact that we have not won anything significant since SAF retired, we have not had a great coach/ manager signed and it is 8 years. Worryingly, the noisy neighbours and others seem to be strengthening every year, heck even Chelsea has won the PL and the CL in this time and we are still trying to build a team which WILL challenge for the honours soon, that soon never looked close in these 8 years. Passion can sometimes cloud logic as I can see here

Our top priority this season is Sancho so I would be happy to see him stay at Villa for other season so that we can get him next season once pogba leave.
That is obviously the ideal situation but would be very surprised if he's prepared to wait another season with City lurking

 they can't even fix the door that got broken at the stadium or repair the swimming pool on time, let alone show ambition in the transfer market.
Yeah that is very true and I'm sure some of the stadium and infrastructure things will be brought up tomorrow

Always performs well in any team he's in - class player. Perhaps a tad unrealistic but I do hope we get him

I really hope it's a 'proper' meeting and not just some pre rehearsed BS with hand picked puppets. They really need to be told exactly how the fans feel and what we expect - you'd hope they would want the same.

He’s nearly left twice though, so he’s got to be open. He nearly went spurs a few years back and if villa had of gone down last season he would of come to us.

villa have money and have obviously outlined their plans to him, which look pretty decent. They will spend.
He wouldn’t also leave knowing they get a lot of money for him.
I think he will leave at some point, just hope it’s to us!

I thought the idea of the Transfer Forum is to at least start a thread with a credible source.

The source is the Daily Mail, with no quotes, There is not a single quote in this thread corroborating anything at all, apart from Aston Villa saying he's going nowhere.

Perhaps this thread should be locked until there is something actually to talk about?

10 pages of pointless speculation.

Not really, Sam Lee who works for The Athletic and has been Man City's best transfer source for years confirmed their interest a couple days ago.

It seems like people are having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he wants to stay and that Villa are building towards something. We have the 2nd or 3rd richest owners in the league who are investing heavily into the playing squad and infrastructure every year, some great young talent coming through the ranks, the team is improving season on season. 2 years ago we finished 5th in the Championship. This season we were somewhat disappointed with 55 points and 11th in the PL. Why wouldn't he want to see how that unfolds for a couple of years? How could you construe that as the club holding him hostage, what an utterly bizarre sentiment. Nobody's forcing him to be here.

There is little chance we are signing both of them. However, Grealish staying put, so we can go back for him next year is wishful thinking.
No way we can sign both in same season, Sancho now and Grealish next season if he stays with Villa.

He signed his new contract last seasons and there is no urgency from Villa side to sell him right now, asking price won't be too small and I doubt City would spend 70-80m on single player, IMO Grealish stays there for one season least.

If Grealish does stay this season, I can see him doing what Kane has done this year, in a year or two's time.

Grealish is a talent that should be playing and competing in the world's best competitions...both internationally and domestically.

He has only so many years of earning and you can’t pass up a year of earning double or triple your current salary regardless. He will move.

Yeah but the question is will he be prepared to wait it out for Utd to come in for him maybe next summer

Why would you immediately assume that the fans in those meetings are puppets?

I'd be infinitely more bothered by them getting Grealish than I would be them getting Kane

Yeah I feel exactly the same much like I was utterly gutted when Spurs got Gazza over us in 1988, if only we had offered to buy his parents a house then would have definitely signed for us but one of them unfortunately.

Zero chance you will be able to offer what the 'top' clubs can. Both financially and ambitiously.

Agreed, and I'm sure the club is fine with that. Again, nobody is holding him against his will.

Before the start of this season, the owners outlined the plan they have for the club to him and it prompted him to sign the new contract. I imagine that plan to encompass about 3 seasons of football, so he probably will stick around for 2 seasons more before he decides he needs to move on if he finds, like Kane, that the club isn't where he envisions himself to be.

Yeah he would still only be 28 then so that's very possible

Pogba will either leave this summer or stay for a few more years due to a contract extension.

Why don't they mention Mendy and Bernardo and any other player that is not a regular starter as well???
These are the sort of "Links" that really piss me off as it is obvious the guy has tried to put background into his made up story.

If City don't get him this year, they'll get him next year.

United had there chance, but weren't willing to splash the cash, so when Pogba leaves there will be no Grealish incoming.

For where the Glazers's fail, Sheikh Mansour prevails.

His agent has the reputation of running out his clients contract in favour of next move, not sure what's his wage demand is if he decides to extend his contract.

His current earning is 1,20,000 p /w, most city players earns in that brackets,City's highest earner was Aguero at 2,30,000 p/w I don't see City double the wages to the position where they already stocked up, also their highest priority is Striker.

We are seeing a live example right now with Donnarumma. Woodward will not allow United's fingers burnt twice with Pogba.

one thing about him is he genuinely plays football with such joy! He really loves it and it shows in the way he plays. He always comes across as a fan playing football in interviews etc, excitement over players like de bruyne for example. Its a win win situation for him, plays for a club he loves, captain, good money, local lad.. if no one comes along and offers the minimum villa want.. no problem. If someone comes in for him in a year or two with 100million bid.. that’s a choice he and the club will make. It doesn’t feel like he is desperate to leave. I think he will at some stage of his career but it’s hardly a hard life. It’s a win win for him.

We should be doing all we can to sign both players and it can be done very easily if they both want to come.

Grealish and Sancho fees should be largely offset by selling Pogba, Martial and Lingard. Lingard never plays, Martial is inconsistent, Pogba is good but isn’t as good at LF than the player he displaced.

£65 million Pogba
£40 million Martial
£30 Million Lingard

The above is reasonable but I do feel Pogba will try to leave on free and get a huge payday.

Sancho, Rashford, Cavani, Grealish, Greenwood, Bruno. Main attackers.

Diallo loan to Dortmund to sweeten the deal.

We can even buy a CDM or CB if we need to but I do feel these two are the priority.

Grealish is an awkward signing for me. I really want him here, my heart says yes but my head says no.
He plays his best on the left followed by roaming 10.
Rashford is best on the left and Bruno is our 10. Both won't be going anywhere and rightly so.
He's not pushing Bruno out so the only option is Rashford. Rashford in my opinion is half the player on the right and I really don't want him as our #9.
I also don't want us resorting to our old habit of buying a player and trying to shoehorn him into something he isn't. We've had enough square pegs for round holes here.
