The question is irrelevant anyway, buying one is pretty much impossible at this point. Unless you want to gift a ton of money to scalpers, I guess.

Yes if you care about better load times/60fps/don't really care about spending the money. No if you want true next gen games you can't get on your current system/want to wait longer for the UI (and possible first gen machine) problems to be ironed out.
Feel I need to mention that this is a PS5 issue. The UI on Xbox is as smooth as hot butter through a knife

Nope, much less frequently than on the PS5, but I've had crashes and the odd issue with unresponsive controller. Plus it's still rather resource hoggy and clunky underneath which they are improving on all the time.

For the last few days via Stock Informer (Telegram) I’ve been getting quite a lot of alerts for the Series X. Amazon and GAME.

PS5 will be much harder to get hold of - yes we know why.

Yeah I can't speak for Series X as I'm not looking for it. I'm in one of those Telegram groups for PS5 stock and I've immediately reacted to every single one of the alerts. Managed to get as far as trying to pay for one last week or so, but payment failed about 20 times before it declared my shopping cart empty and then everything was out of stock again. It's an intensely frustrating experience trying to buy one now.

Neither are likely to drop in price any time in the next few years so arguably you'd get better value out of spending €500 now instead of 2 or 3 years from now.

Ps5 is incredibly hard to get though, Xbox seems more available in Ireland at least.

Unless you are waiting for a slim model like me. When that comes out we'll have a better refined machine and generally games have got classic versions of the best games so are a lot cheaper and with all DLC included. A few of them may also be free on the likes of PS+ by that time too.

I think the opposite about consoles as the first couple of years are usually games that started development before the console was properly specified and will take the previous gen into account. It's normally from year 3 onwards where the great games start flowing in on consoles.

Can't argue with any of that. It's never a necessity to get a console at launch. I've done it with PS5 because I wanted to sell one to offset my costs and I like shiny new things. The boost to PS4 and PSVR games is nice too...

Either of the consoles worth getting yet?
Most games may not be true next gen but there’s plenty that are noticeably improved in terms of both graphics and performance. I’ve already got a lot of use out of the SX because of lockdown and the little bit of joy that comes with those improvements + quick resume and load times has been worth it.

Guess you have to decide whether that’s worth it to you. If I played as little as I did before lockdown started it probably wouldn’t have been worth it.

Seconded. Have had zero issues with the UI. People knocked not having a brand new one but it was obviously the smart move.

So says the talentless tea boy in some menial office job that happens to use Microsoft word so you "work with them".
Tea boy and proud! In 30 years I'll keep myself going by ripping kids and patronising the rest on the latest tea trends.

It’s really not, I bought one for my partner’s manager a few days ago as she’s been looking since Feb for her sons birthday present, admittedly it’s not easy and it helps that I work online all day but I used stockinformer for notifications and had an account for all the possible outlets. It’s then just a matter of acting fast when you get a notification and a bit of luck to get it in your basket. If you really want one and commit to it, you will get one.

"you bring out the worst in all of us" Seriously, get a grip

Anyway, I am actually having fun, winding you up in here amuses me from time to time even if it is way too easy. This is where you can now claim not to be, naturally.

Yeah I've got 3 since launch without too much stress.

It's not easy for everyone though, sadly. But you can still decide to get one and find one.

I guess it depends on your region as well. I don't know where you guys live (UK?) but like I said in another post, I've reacted immediately to every single alert and I've never managed to grab one. It's been a mess of crashing websites and constant error messages all the way. I'm doing everything I can short of buying one from a scalper, which is something I'm simply never going to do, as I wouldn't even consider supporting those cnuts.

Was all the effort worth the threesome?

Finally bit the bullet and ordered an Xbox Series X. Have owned every single Playstation since their inception, however not being able to get one still 7 months after launch is nothing short of disgraceful.

So guys, having now moved to the other side, can anyone tell me what can i expect? I have heard about the game pass. Are you able to download the games and keep them forever ? Will Fifa be in there? and Hitman 3?

Fifa maybe, but don't expect Fifa 22 at launch as EA access only really allows older titles.
Hitman, not sure as it isn't made by a Microsoft studio, so it tends to be these games that normally drop at launch etc.

What else to expect?
A more ergonomic controller
Better resolutions in general... More actual 4K etc
Better frame rates on games if you prefer that
Better online service
Better UI
Better looking console that tucks away
Dolby Vision if you have a surround setup
If you prefer buying games digitally, better value as you can buy them from CDKeys
Oh and future Skyrim's, Fallout, Dooms and Starfield (Not a big deal according to PS fans though, so maybe this isn't a pro)

You'll just miss the odd game to be honest

If you sign up to gamepass you can play Peggle 2 in 4K @ 120fps.

The fact you can’t get a PS5 7 months after launch should tell you something.

Despite all the nonsense in this thread there really isn't a significant amount of difference at this point.

With Game Pass you can download games on the service, but they come and go and once they leave you aren't able to play them any more. Games on Game Pass are also available to subscribers at a reduced price if they wish to buy them. MS studio games appear to be permanent thus far (though I'm sure Forza games will be removed when the car licenses expire).

Just a random bit of advice, sign up for the Microsoft Rewards program. Basically you get points back on purchases from the MS/Xbox Store which can be put towards a range of rewards (including MS/Xbox store credit). You can also get extra points by doing things like bing searches, getting achievements or even just booting up game pass games.
