I've changed my mind. Knight him and give him a contract until 2030.

We won in excellent fashion so you can't argue against keeping the same team, but I still prefer Grealish and Foden to Mount.

Back to back semi finals. Not sure anyone recently comes close to the manager over years I can remember

Wonder if we will get a 'Why can Gareth only get a semi thread' after England lose to Denmark.

So how do we line up against Denmark? I think Mount will start ahead of Phillips and Rice, and we know Sterling/Kane both are. I think he’ll go for Sancho again.
Has to be the same team bar any injuries, surely. That was the most convincing England win in a major tournament since what, Euro 96?

Perfect performance really. I think this is probably our best side right now with possible exceptions of Grealish over Mount and Walker at RB (real shame that TAA isn't fit for this).

Southgate deserves enormous credit. He's managed this squad excellently and has shown some tactical flexibility and been brave with his selections. All of his decisions have worked out.

Luke Shaw has become an outstanding player. A complete full back, arguably the world's best at the moment.

We could become the dominant team in Int'l football if we can win this and find a more dynamic midfield. This team has at least another 2 or 3 tournaments after this with all of our key players at peak age, and some exciting prospects still finding themselves.

An exciting time to be an England fan

Isn't this exactly what we wanted to see from the off? As the tournament has progressed our football has got better, and the team has got closer to what half the nation wanted to see to begin with. No fecking around with a RB at LB, no packing the team with defenders, just the utilization of the best attacking talent at the tournament. No matter how good you are, you're going to struggle against Kane, Sterling, Sancho, Grealish, Rashford, Foden and the rest.

I have slagged Southgate off something fierce. I may never really like the fella either, especially after what he did with Mason last summer. However, I pray to God that he proves me wrong two more times in this Euros.

Another great win with a top performance by the whole team . A young squad gelling well and performing really well but I am sure that some smart people here still think that Southgate doesn't have a clue

Yeah fair play, we've got better with almost every game. Much more confident than at the World Cup, we'll beat Denmark.

Nothing better than seeing United players performing in an England win.

We’re a good side. Not on paper. Not in hype. Not in the media. Actually fecking good.

What about in a United win?

I agree with you about getting better though. I've pissed and moaned all the way through the tournament but this team have got their heads in the game this time. It's not about entertaining anyone, it's about getting through and we're doing that. It could go wrong in the semi or the final but for now they've got my full support.

The only strong team england have faced was a weakened german team and they barely scraped through. If they still bottle it then might as well disband the fa and the national team.

Struggling not to get too excited as it only usually leads to disappointment but that was the least stressed I've ever felt watching England in knock outs. There will be tougher tests (Ukraine looked knackered after the second went in...extra time against Sweden killed them) but we controlled the game really well, created chances, and avoided suspensions. Also, Kane growing into the tournament could be HUGE for us. Danes will give us a tough game but I'm excited for it. I'm also excited for the Danish fans the cameras will pick out in the crowd...

Sorry how did we barely scrape through? some of you lot are so blinded by hate for the country in which the team you support is located, so bizarre.

I was actually wondering if this has ever happened before. As far as I’m aware, England have reached 5 semi finals of major international tournaments prior to today:

WC 1966

Euros 1968 (there were only 4 teams in the actual finals tournament so this one doesn’t really count)

WC 1990

Euro 96

WC 2018

So this is really the first time going to back to back final fours in a proper sense.

For some context, the Germans have got to that stage more than 20 times

The management and team selection is much improved from the group stage. We actually get forward, now.

Much better. I hated the hesitation we had in the group. It was too much, and way too negative.

Our attack is arguably the best in the world when you consider depth, so seeing it used more is great.

Hmm, call me a traitor but if it's in a Euros or World Cup final I'll take England first.

Same here. I thought we underperformed at the World Cup and would go out with a wimper again after a dull group stages. Can't complain at the last two though, we're playing like winners.

England reached the semis of a WC in 2018 and we had people saying it didn't count because they didn't beat the Netherlands. A team that not only didn't qualify for the 2018 WC, but hadn't qualified for the newly expanded 2016 Euros either.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Traitor...

The fact is if we go out in the next game or even the final there'll be fair questions about what might have been if Southgate or the players had done x y or z. Personally I've gone from worrying about the football being overly pragmatic, because if we go out playing that kind of stuff why bother at all, to understanding the need to keep it tight and organised at tournaments. I'm also past caring about who we've played, how lucky we've been to be at home etc. Southgate and the England team didn't organise the tournament and didn't handpick our opposition, so I'm going to stick to criticising the factors the team and staff can actually impact.
