Wil Smith hasn't done anything as good. Sure the comedy isn't particularly sophisticated in fact in most cases the jokes are too obvious. But I've always found it a great watch.

Who on earth wouldn't like that? I loved it as a kid and my kids love it too. It's still great and who always raps along with the theme tune? I know I do a bad ass version.

Love Carlton's dance...well everyone does. Will is such a clown, that role suited him because he's not a bad boy and never has been.

It is a good show but it has not aged well because a lot of jokes were about celebs and events from a time period which is now 30 odd years ago.

i was never able to watch it as a child. we were too poor for sky and it always clashed with hollyoaks when it was on terrestrial tv and my mum was going to be damned if she missed that. this normally meant i was out with my mates, getting up to no good. one of these up to no good moments involved me getting into a fight. when my mum found out she hit the roof. she forced me to go and live with her sister and her husband on the other side of the country. fortunately they were pretty wealthy so i was able to watch the fresh prince if i wanted to. unfortunately though my cousin was super fit, so i spent most of my time trying to catch her changing.

Weird. Same here...I got into a fight and my mum told me to pack my bags and sent me to live in the posh parts of Scarborough with my aunt and uncle. They were nice but snotty and my cousin used to do this bizarrely likeable dance.

For a comedy show, it sure took some hard rights into serious topics. And I have to say that one episode of Uncle Phil trying to comfort Will after his dad leaves him again was strong. You really felt for Will. Uncle Phil was one the great TV dads. RIP James Avery.

Mate, back then we used to get up to some crazy stuff. But yeah you - DJ Rimmy Rimmo was top.
there was that banger we used to do, autumntime, waxing lyrical about the nights drawing in and woodland animals preparing for hibernation.

Great show, rewatched it recently got a huge kick out of it... think what surprised me most is how funny it was. I mean I remember it being funny obviously (I mean its a comedy) but there were quite a few actual laugh out loud moments for me.

My favourite gag was when Will goes to the sperm bank so he can donate his sperm to Jazz and his wife, and Jazz gets him a greeting card that says "heard you had a stroke"

I thought it held up very well on the rewatch... sure there are lots of celeb cameos from the time, but the actually comedy/drama holds up very well. Think the most jarring thing is the slight homophobic jokes, but thats about it really.

Loved the show.

Used to live in Southport on Leyland road. They started to film a black soap opera a few doors down, think it was called brothers and sisters, the guy who plays the butler Geoffrey was one of the stars.

Never watched the soap or know what happened to it.

Stephen graham was on it too

I never saw it as a child so I haven't got that affection for it that most other kids my age developed. Now it looks to me like any other corny, dated show from the time but with a star in the making leading the cast.

The below scene does look good to be fair, as an interesting key change from the comedy:

I don't even know the words to the tune :nervous:

It's 30 years old (Christ) so it's bound to have aspects that are dated, it looks old(behave, this means I'm old), the music and the fashion - clothes and Air Jordans are so 90s. And yes it can be very corny but despite that I can watch it on loop. I also loved the episode where Carlton and Will got locked up for allegedly stealing his dad's colleague's Merc. Was Carlton's awakening, a realisation that his US wasn't this perfect society where fairness and equality existed and that racism was real and institutional, something that he'd have to deal with his whole life - so it did highlight social issues despite being a sitcom. Back to the music I loved Das EFX, Naughty by Nature et al...they may be old skool now but back then they were the coolest releases in hip hop. Time eh.

Rapheal De La Ghetto signs of.

Oh and let's go 90s - the girls were well fit.

It was an enjoyable show. Used to watch some reruns late at night in bed.

That's cool, and the scene that was posted earlier where Will is talking about his estranged father looks great. I'm just not about any of the comedy I've seen from the show and I'm not into any of that music either. It's one that passed me by, but I certainly wouldn't do it down from a position of ignorance as it brought pleasure to a great many people and was clearly on the ball in terms of understated social commentary.

I hadn't seen any Home Alone films until last Christmas, my parents are borderline child abusers depriving me of a normal childhood in this way.

Well it's personal taste and the comedy can be corny. No arguments here. I'd comeback from school/college and de-stress watching Fresh Prince at 6pm on Beeb 2 - I think. I thought it was cool and funny, it was certainly cooler than other sitcoms, so for a young person it ticked so many boxes.

I loved the fact that Carlton lost all his confidence when Will'd out do him. Will lwas such a waster. Uncle Phil film knew he was talented but his lack of application used to irk him - amongst other things to be fair.
