Where the grass is greener.
Still feel this is miles away but its obviously looking likely it will happen now.

Personal terms is good but the agreement between the two clubs regards to price will take a while, won't it?

Seemed to be the case with Sancho, as I'm pretty sure we agreed personal terms quite a bit of time before agreeing a price between the teams.

Either way, hopefully we can get it over the line.

On paper, I'd say we'd have the best back four in the league.
I don't really think it looks like its miles away at all? The Sancho deal shouldn't be used as some reference point for all transfers. They're all different.

Deal is obviously very close. Only form of payment left to negotiate.

Meaning pay by whom? Man utd obviously got the money so that's not an issue.

Only need to sort out when is the payment and what type of payment.

Im using it as a reference point to show that only because we have agreed personal terms, it may not necessarily mean the deal is nearly done. These things take time.

Obviously if we can wrap it up this week then great but it wouldnt surprise me if we didn't.

You should all lay off Nurse. Not his fault the lad receiving his telefax at the library was a bit slow to get it up onto his socials.
He's just received the telegram from Warsaw, Germany has just invaded Poland. Britain and France expected to declare war on Germany

He's still right. Maguire instantly leveled up our defence and played basically every minute of every game. Not to say he didn't have issues. There was a phase in his first season where he started holding on to the ball a bit too long and Ole called him out on it and he had a poor first month last season. But to argue that was was "very average" is kind of idiotic.
That’s not what I remember though, our defense as a unit has been a joke at times, committing Sunday league football error from time to time, and people here did wonder maybe we should keep Smalling instead. But to be fair Maguire becomes really solid during 2nd half of this season, and has been excellent in Euro, so no complain there. But he didn’t make an instant level up for us once he joined, he went through some rough patch with his slow body turn and lack of pace got exposed badly at times midway through his first season when we were playing high defensive line, but he was still decent overall and was our best CB, so he was surely easily above average to me, although his price tag hasn’t been justified, he was still a decent CB in the league. Acrually I’d say AWB was our instant level up in his first year instead, but his attacking contribution has been poor later on.

Maguire is good, but 80m is overpriced. In comparison VVD cost 75m and is voted as Ballon D’or 2nd place, Dias cost 60m and is PL player of year. Maguire has cost more but doesn’t quite reach the same height. But surely he is still a good CB for us.
Both VVD & Dias came in to totally different teams compared to Maguire.

VVD & Dias joined teams who were either very established and used to winning leagues, or had the final jigsaws missing, such as VVD & Alison.

Maguire was one of the first parts to Ole's reconstruction. Yes the money paid for Maguire was a lot but we were in a desperate situation.

Unfortunately for Maguire, he will always get compared to VVD and the differing impacts made but the context of where their individual teams were at the time of their arrivals will never be taken into account. I always thought our own fans would.

Just shows how bad Woodward was with transfer deals that Murtough got Sancho and Varane in his first attempt. Shambles.

I’m working in a complete phone signal black hole today apart from when sat in the van at break. If this doesn’t get confirmed in the next hour I’ll need to find an excuse to grab something from the van every ten minutes.

Improves us massively, but it's got to be said - for the same money we could have had Ben White.

Arsenal really did beat us to that one.
