Because we needed a RW and a CB.
Irrelevant really who in their right mind would choose Grealish over those two? I mean Pep might be a little salty towards Sancho but there's not a team in the league where both don't start

Thankfully this thread will be closed for good in next couple of days, cheers faulty technology for ruining this one for us

Small time looking at who everyone else is signing. We haven't missed out on anything. Look on the bright side, will be a decent watch when United aren't on't telly.

Yeah this 100%. I said that if we tried to sign Grealish it would be the most Man Utd thing to do over this last 8 years. He is a cracking player no doubt and would make us better but we have serious holes in our side and he doesn’t fix any, so obviously Sancho/Varane are better but for City who CB partnership is class and are stacked on the RW Grealish is better for 100m

The end of the wankfest is near
Probably just beginning. This place loves fawning over rival players. Turns into Bluecafe after every City game.

Fully expecting the Grealish performance thread to be bumped every week with over the top adulation.

I’m happy enough they’re splurging so much on a player they don’t really need and who isn’t better than what they have. It’s a shame though as he was my favourite English player.

I mean I'd have liked him here too. But it's going way over the top on here. I hope you are wrong and this thread dies a quick death the moment he signs. He can fecking do one the low socked cnut as far as I'm concerned.

I never understand these tweets. Wasn’t Giggs a City fan ? Carragher was a Everton fan. Players will play and love the club they play for
No. He was a United fan but he did start in City’s academy. Said he wouldn’t go to his son’s wedding if he married a City fan. Daft but he was never City.

Yeah you’re right I googled it. Well about his son is weird but unexpected Ryan Giggs the person I don’t care for only the footballer

If Villa want to resign him for 200k a week and he is a United fan then he wouldn't go to City unless they are offering to double his wages. This would clearly be about money and trophy potential despite them being a rival of a club that you've dreamt about playing in.

If City signed me in the morning I'd forget about United in a second and lie about how I grew up idolising Shaun Goater.

Just gimme that £200k a week contract, please.

Or in Welbeck's words "When I was at United, I have dreamt of how nice it will be to play for Arsenal"

Oh well there is another one United let slip through their fingers.

They could have gotten him for less than Maguire last summer, but the board went for a player (Van De Beek) who hardly played at all.

Where United fail City prevail I guess.

Surely Grealish is a Villa fan? So at best we were probably his second team but when you're a professional footballer the chance to actually play for the team you support is going to be rare so you've got to put that aside to carve a career out of it for yourself

I think you have seen too little of Grealish when you spout such things. He entered the Euros like he was prime Zidane and took on each game like they were friendlies against Walsall, no problem. He also danced around most big teams last season, nutmegging van Dijk and orchestrating the 7-2, a historic match for all non-Liverpool fans.

It will be funny this. Many are downplaying him because he cones from Villa, most will shut up in about 15 minutes of the first game or so. Bruno came from an absolute shit Sporting, it doesn’t matter much does it. What is also 100% certain is that the ones who semi-like him from last season is going to hate his guts now that all those fouls are given to a Man City-player. Football fans ey, not the most objective bunch alive.
It’s unfortunate that you have taken my comment negatively. I’ve not downplayed his abilities as a player. The main point is about the pressure that comes along in being the most expensive British footballer in British transfer history. He’s going to play for a team that by default expects to win titles, hence there will be more pressure then at Villa, respectfully. Especially at City, who want to chase international trophies and you can imagine that their owners would not be that content on splashing 100 milion for a player who couldn’t contribute to that goal. Its a different ball game now in terms of media pressure. That is the main point, nothing more nothing less.

What makes you think that?

Do you think Grealish fits City better than Sancho fits United?
It just seems apparent that Grealish just has a great deal more to his game than Sancho does. One has been playing the role of a very good tricky winger against defences akin to Emmental cheese. The other has shown he is more than ready to be playing with the very best not just against them and in turn become Pep's next star match winner like Silva and De Bruyne before him.

The difference is that they have a great manager and Sancho is just 21.

This is the only place where Grealish is considered to be among the greatest footballers ever, it seems. Also, why on earth would we sign him when we have Bruno??
He isn't one of the best ever, he'll just be excellent for City. Grealish is also a good deal better than Bruno who has been on a slow but sure decline since last July but has taken a significantly more pronounced dip the last few months.

Baseless theory:

Grealish is willing to sign for City. But he also wouldn't mind signing a new contract with Villa if they can prove they match his ambitions.

The Ings transfer was a statement of intent by Villa to show that they mean business about bridging the gap to the top 4.

It might not be enough to convince Grealish to stay. But it might help to show him they're a club on an upward trajectory.

£75 mill was Villa's asking price last year, and United's board turned there nose up at it and went for Van De Beek instead.

He had no asking price but the rumoured price was 80m

Stop making things up you won't be promoted doing that

Were you living in a box last summer???

£75 million was the asking price all over the media. Even the United Stand covered it.

Shakes head, clueless.

City were strong favourites for next years title without Grealish and Kane anyway. This just helps seal it.

As long as we are playing good football, hopefully not too far behind them, and ideally finishing second, you can’t really ask for more. No sense getting upset that we can’t be competing year in, year out, against a very rich nation-state.

we can't control what other clubs do, all we can do is win our games and we've got a team now that should be winning a lot of games

next season's title really should come down to the head to heads between the top 4 they're on paper at least that far ahead of the rest

This is the way I see it. He’s Villa through and through, isn’t he. The tweets thing is silly as well, there’s been countless times players have supported a club and moved to their rival later in life.
