Too many players in the team who are impossible to move on because not even Hartlepool are stupid enough to take them on a free.

He tried to drive Martial's price on the market high. Well done, Oli! I don't want to event comment the CM...he's happy with Matic & McFred.

United will never win the title with this type of display. OGS has got it wrong by tinkering his lineup. He is poor tactician and is too soft. Fred cannot play in this type of game as he is too soft, Matic is too slow and needed too many touches. Shaw is not fit. Wan Bissaka is poor in attacking. I think Sancho regrets in joining already. Maguire as usual looses concentration occasionally. Bruno has gone missing in the second half.

Didn’t take long for people to turn on Sancho.
He lost his confidence from that euro penalty (and now I'm not sure if this is a sarcastic post:confused:) What I am sure that he is better for counters. It looks like CDM should have been the priority.

Like what? Is playing Sancho instead of Martial going to help us control the ball or make simple passes.
Sancho barely had a kick either. You can’t blame it on the strikers if they have so little touches of the ball.

That’s the midfield and defence problem mostly. Martial or Sancho have to drop deep just to touch the ball when we all know they are better on the front foot running at players. Especially Martial

Pogba was great though in parts. Top player. The rest of the side bang average.

Fred and Matic, particularly the latter, couldn’t handle the Southampton press. Our midfield had no control in this game. Don’t you think a midfield that control the temp could create opportunities for our attackers? We had enough game changers out there, but with no control in midfield we had no chance. Lingard was a useless sub. Instead, VDB for Matic much earlier would have had a more significant impact. Our midfield was non-existent.
Van De Beek has done the square root of feck all in a United shirt. Just baffling that Lingard was a useless sub, when he was one of the league's best players a matter of months ago, but Donny would have had a significant impact. It's not just not based on anything we've seen it's in direct opposition to it.

Matic outshone him by miles in pre-season. Matic.

Not sure if this is a serious post but before you talk about a player who's hardly been here maybe you should start on fred or lindelof
Nothing against him, I'm sure you could put Messi up front today and we'd still struggle to create. I'm just saying, if we knew we had limited funds, why not prioritise getting a midfielder that would stop Fred getting so many games.

I left the beach, got dressed at 3pm and drove to the next greek village with a proper pub just to get served this? After a full week of training and 200k+ paychecks? Not enough
I got back from Greece early hours of this morning and was looking forward to a lazy day and this match...

Maybe Ole is just too nice to get rid of the deadwood. Too many in the team. Never pass the ball to Fred in our third of the pitch. He will give a dangerous pass to put us under immediate pressure.

Too many poor performances and bad passing. The subs of Sancho McTom and Lingard had no impact. Once Pogba went off the boil that was it. We always seem to need Bruno or Pogba, been like that for years.
What impact would lingard have coming on for 600 seconds?

Our season is fecked if we dont buy a CM
I agree, was always a priority to me. As poor as many were today, the lack of anything in the middle was poor. Fred is simpl ynot good enough, Matic comes too deep and slows play down, is only really effective from the bench protecting the lead, VDB still anomynous and Mctominay is average. And forget Pogba playing there, when he was deep there were instances of him bein sloppy and he was our best player.

SHaw was ok first half and faded....the rest of the defence were shocking. I am a fan of Bissaka but he was lazy defensively and poor on the ball today, liek he regressed two seasons again today. Maguire was also half asleep on the ball and Lindelof also looked like he regressed from a decent last 3/4 months....did he even win a challenge of complete a non sideways or backwards pass all game.....and as for Martial.....and then we are bringing Lingard on....pitiful

Two games in only.....yet I am thinking the same thing I have thought for the last 3/4 seasons, we have made good signings but not enough of them. And half the reason for that is yet again our fgailure to move players on. Our squad is bloated with talented yet inconsistent players and lots of average ones. Should have been four signings this summer and as you say, failure to bring in a central midfielder will be a very costly error this summer

That's the title optimism up in smoke already. We looked inept throughout, only Pogba and Greenwood can walk away with any pride. Disappointing cameo from Sancho who didn't look fit.

That last 17 min is one of the worst displays of how a team in ascendancy can utterly lose the plot and allow the opposition in through terrible passing.

Im sorry to labour the point, but this game just signifies how we just don't have the manager to make the difference when it matters...Still some fans will be rejoicing in the '27th unbeaten away' record!
I’m going to have to agree with this, every time it’s bought up there’s always an excuse for Ole.

To stand a chance for the title, you can only lose 3 games.
Any more and you’re relying on your competitors to lose more ….and luck.
We can play brilliantly from now on, but statistical, our chance is already slipping only 2 games in.

For whatever reason united players not look like fit enough. Slow pondering in possession. Southampton played well. On paper this united team will win in 90 out of 100. Yet again on paper is one thing and play on the pitch another.

Varane need to start to give keepers the cushion to not panic.

To be fair we had more than enough opportunities to win the game and on another day the ball breaks to us in the box and we score another couple. Southampton’s goal was clearly a foul also. Much better start than last season

Sancho should NEVER EVER have been the priority when we are relying on a midfield or Fred Matic and McTominay. For me this is as basic as pressing the 'on ' button to switch the telly on. Title challengers are Chelsea Liverpool and City if we dont strengthen in midfield and i dont think we are. We have had this midfield issue for season after season

You are watching a different game. We were lucky not to lose. De Gea save from Armstrong was huge.

Never built on our momentum when we scored the equaliser. Hardly created anything after that.
Fred went off and we vacated the midfield. We set no tempo and we let them go by the first and second man way too easily in acres of space. Not many good performances there from us. Pogba and DDG. Shaw kept going but he was poor enough. Fred was sketchy but is so important one way or another. Matic is horrible. Martial poor. We need another battler/tempo setter in there to rotate or upgrade on Fred and McT.. Sancho Lingard and McT proved to be pointless subs. Bruno anonymous. Greenwood did nothing apart from the goal.

Telling ye lads and I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face. Everyone goes on about quality this quality that. It’s aggression and direct play that we need to balance out the flair. James on the wing actually provides that despite his technical shortcomings, he’ll get in behind and win set pieces and doesn’t stop pressing from the he front. He helps us set pressing traps. Martial walks around. Fred in the middle provides that while Matic walks around spraying ball. See the difference?

    Not be rubbish?
Call me crazy but the last time he played (pre-season vs Everton) he played excellently. Look, it's one thing to play badly and then be dropped due to that; it's another thing to have a very good game and then find yourself not rewarded for it.

So I could understand "Not be rubbish" if the previous game was.....rubbish, but how do you account for zero minutes since an impressive display?

fecking hell. It is bloody Southampton who sold bunch of players and bought nobody. We are not title chasers because of manager.
You think any of Matic Fred and McTominay get into the sides of Chelsea, Liverpool and City. The answer has two letters, starts with 'n' and ends with 'o'.

Our midfield was non-existent and Matic was part of the problem. Our attacking players are doing nothing with a midfield like that. Van de Beek has not been given the opportunity to succeed here, so to judge him already is piss poor by our supporters. He plays in a double pivot with the national team and also played there during the preseason. If given the opportunity and a run of games then judge him on his ability to play that role for us.

Lingard is a serial failure at United, a loan spell at West Ham doesn’t change that.

We can have all the attacking talent on the pitch we like, but until we have any structure in the middle of the pitch the we will struggle. The game passed Fred and matic by today.

Fred will need upgrading next summer. McTominay is very important to this team, unlucky that he got injured. Some positives, but frustrating at times.

We win this 7-8 out of 10 times though, their goal was bullshit anyways.

So Lingard is a serial failure at United (your words) and a loan at West Ham - playing in the same competition we're looking to win and being excellent in it - doesn't change that. Van de Beek has been a serial failure but him playing for his national team - in a period of time where they've played Turkey, Latvia, Gibraltar, Scotland and Georgia - and being absolutely shit in pre-season does change that.
