A solid win, but a sub-par performance overall. But people need to chill out with this "Most undeserved win".. blabla, Wolves created ONE clear-cut chance, but it seems DDG has found his way back to his old-self. Shit, he even played the sweeper-role today!

But our central midfield is a big problem in my opinion. Pogba just does not seem to find his place there for United like he does for France, and this really needs to be sorted. We cannot keep up with either City, Chelsea or Liverpool if we don't. Not even Ronaldo can fix this.
Which of the three goal line clearances did you see?

How long can we keep this Fred as capable DM nonsense? Clearly have attributes, but not in this position.

We need a defensive minded midfielder, badly.

I don't know what's worse, Ole not picking this up or even when we are getting trounced in midfield he still does nothing.

VdB did something really bad to Ole, there's no other explanation.

Even if he definitely wasn't good enough, still wouldn't explain it. Seeing James again starting is just crazy, or that Lingard was supposed to start last game because he had a good pre season.

Great victory but a fecking awful display again. How?

Because if we don't address the underlying problem real quick this season is not going to be a title challenge.
Which no one is hiding. I’ve already responded to one of your posts that we need a midfielder but that doesn’t mean because we haven’t signed one, winning the game is irrelevant. That was the target today. It seems like you wanted us to drop points today because the performance wasn’t great and now because we haven’t signed a midfielder. Yes the performance wasn’t the best and yes I’d like us to bring in a central midfielder but that doesn’t take away from the fact that winning is all that matters. You don’t get 3 points on the board unless you win the game. Common sense tells you that.

Our need for a pure out and out defensive midfielder is so fecking ridiculously massively obvious it’s untrue and it hurts my head that Ole doesn’t see the same, Fred without McTominay is no different to playing with 10 men and was truly awful.

I think Varane had a very solid if unspectacular debut and the second half Pogba played well as a dictating midfield playmaker from deep, I’ve no doubt that Pogba can be a deep lying playmaker alongside a PROPER defensive midfielder at home against teams that park the bus against us.

Sancho looked better on the right than the left but is still finding his feet whilst Greenwood has hit the ground running, I think he’ll score 20 goals this season and if we can get another 20 from Rashford once’s he’s back with Ronaldo and Cavani surely going to get 40 between them we could blow a lot of teams away and I’ve not even included Fernandes in that.

Wolves has notoriously been the worst fixture of the season for us since they came up.
You’re right.. Seems like they have a extra gear when they meet us, and they’re a hard nut to break down when they’re in the mood they showed today.

We struggled today, but it was a close and interesting match even if our performance was average at best. This wouldn’t be the last tight match this season, and I’m happy we show the ability to close them in our favour. That’s positive :)

Today was another example our midfield isn’t on pair with the level we require and what’s needed to win PL. Sancho is excused. Wasn’t a easy first game for him, especially when Wolves decided to block our left side. That wouldn’t have happened if they had to prioritise defending the right side too, but they knew they didn’t have to care much about James and AWB offensively.

James is far far away from being good enough for United. Sorry for that. I also think Ole starts to understand that James hasn’t a future at the club. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was the last time he started in PL this season. Soon we’ll see Sancho on the right and Ronaldo on the left.

My second concern is Fred. He’s sooo slooow and represents a serious problem in certain parts of our defensive play. Today have to be the last time we see Pogba and Fred together in double pivot. We can’t have one slow/weak player and one undisciplined player together in DP. If we want to continue play Pogba in that position, we definitely need to pair him up with a more physical player who cover space quickly. Maybe McT will solve the problem, but I fear we’ll loose the title because we didn’t buy a DM this window.

Finally I have to say Greenwood’s developing has been amazing. He starts looking like a world class player - not only a great talent. He has become faster, stronger and also his technique has improved:yawn:

Unless the phrase “goal line clearances” has recently taken on a new meaning, I saw none today. The closest would be from AWB but that wasn’t on the goal line and I’m not even sure it was on target.
Your comment doesn't make any sense. If the ball is about to roll into the goal, that's a chance. AWB saved one on the goal line, DeGea had a double save while his feet were basically planted on the goal line. Not sure what you're even talking about, those three things happened. Not sure if you're seeing what my post was commenting on or not, but someone claiming Wolves only created one clear cut chance today missed significant portions of the game.

Despite their bad results, Wolves have been impressive this season. A really tough start, but their game is so much more expansive and attacking than under Nuno. They've been very unlucky in every game so far, but I'm sure they'll be fine.

The foul on Neves was as much of a foul as the one one Bruno Vs Southampton, but only one seems to be causing ABU outrage. Love it.

I must admit that I only seen extended highlights but highlights were all Wolves. Fred is terrible. He directly was involved in 3 amazing chances that Wolves had. Verane didn't have the greatest start but it will take him a little to get adjusted.

Our midfield is so poor this season and I'm a bit puzzled why. These are not trash players that we have but they seem slow both in the brain and feet department.

Goalkeepers make saves. Defenders do goal-line clearances. Which is clearing the ball off the goal-line. The clue is in the name.

I do agree Wolves created more than one chance today. Not many more though. De Gea had a fairly quite day, all in all.

Varane was awesome, MOTM for many.

Doesn’t matter how we do it, as long we win. That’s all that matters in the end.
It would be nice for the game to be watchable, but we always look poor against Wolves. Hard to feel like this team is maximizing their potential.

We need a proper CM or deep lying playmaker, Pogba needs to be out wide or backup to Bruno.

Wait what you don't think the AWB clearance was on target???? It was center of the goal and beat DDG
As I said, I can’t be certain. I’d need to see a replay from behind the goal. I doubt De Gea would be beaten by a shot aimed at the centre of the goal. I don’t care anyway. I’m not denying it was a good chance. One of two very good chances they had.

It was right off the line, very easy to tell

Thought Martial showed promise. It would be great if Ole could show him how to supersub. He'd be a nice option off the bench

Varane was awesome and so was DDG.

James cannot play again in any game of importance. I try to be positive about him but today was the final straw.

Fred mis-kicks the ball so many times when trying to clear/cut off passes. It's very strange. He cannot be our DM.

Mike Dean is the worst.

What a gigantic 3 points into the break.

How did we get to 2nd, 3rd, semi's and a Final with so shit a midfield? You know Pogs and Matic have been more inconsistent that Fred and Scott put together. Is there better, course but please can someone tell me which CDM people are talking about cause simply there isn't one unless you think 80m on Rice is money well spent. How can you have a transfer targets that comprise of one player? If the lad from Brighton is so good, why does no one else want him?

Well, no. It wasn’t. The ball was probably closer to the six yard box than the goal line when he played it.

This is such a pointless argument anyway! It really doesn’t matter if the ball was on target vs off, or cleared off the line vs a couple of yards out from it. It was a good chance and excellent defending.

You are eliding two different things. Nobody said winning does not matter. Nobody wanted us to drop points. You just made that up.

I am saying that winning is not all that matters, because we also set up and played in a way that suggests we won't win any silverware this season. And that's very telling, three points or not. This was supposed to be the season Ole delivered.

Dunno how but 3pts are 3pts, performance wise that was utter shit, we got away with it today but next time we wont be so lucky i believe.

Also hope Ronaldo presence will focus them a bit up, because doubt he will react kindly when he sees players that cant make 5 yards pass.

I know a lot of focus and criticism has been on our midfield personnel (whomever is playing) but like with most things I think it is a bit more complicated than that.

In the Wolves match today, when Pogba had the ball deep there were 2 Wolves players pressing him and 2 covering Fred. Only possible outlets were the fullbacks who were hugging the touchline, the forward 4 (which would mean a precise long ball.....not easy when you are being pressed) or back to the defence (which happens a lot with us).

If one of your teammates is in possession I always thought it was fundamentals to get a few of your players to create passing options for them which means MOVING into space. City do this very well. There's always plenty of options to choose..for some unfathomable reason we don't
I don't think our players are coached very well.

Shocking performance, but a great win.

We need to start playing better.

Yes we need a holding midfielder, but 1 holding midfielder brought in isn't going to suddenly erase all of the poor passing, inability to control the game, etc. We need to start playing much better.

I am pretty sure he is the guy who lost a header during a corner kick from which Wolves almost scored. I mean, like I said... I watched the highlights only so he might have done many amazing things to cancel that.

Fred was a disaster. Did highlights at least got that one correct?

Im really worried about our midfield while Mctom is out we all know Mcfred isnt the best and not what we need but its the best we have and with Mctom out we basically have no midfield defensively speaking UNLESS Ole finally plays Donny he can do the Carrick role with Fred or Pogba easily maybe even better than Mctom im really concerned why Ole is treating Donny so badly.

Atrocious gameplan from Ole but we got away with it so happy enough. Greenwood is an absolute monster. Love him.
