What are we thinking? Any more deals? I think James and Lingard will go. If that happens, maybe we'll go for Saul on loan. I really hope we get a CM in - if we do, I fancy us to go all the way in a title challenge. If not, I think we'll be close but not close enough.

I doubt there will be anymore signings but we can all hope. It leaves somewhat a bitter taste that despite signing three greats we have neglected what I considered our priority position this summer. Really does make you question the coaches, scouts and board.

Lingard will stay now, Ole was pretty bullish on that one before today's game so I don't see that changing. I could see James going, but then again he has started two games... Not something you are likely to do if the player will be out the door.

Donny is the one I feel is most likely to go. He has been extremely quiet on social media, last season he still posted after victories etc, even when he wasn't playing. I just think there has been to much noise around him, with not making it into the national team and the LVG comments there must be more to it. I hope he leaves as he has been treated terribly.

100% you're right - donny could go. Wouldn't blame him, absolutely gutted for him. He had to sit on the bench for a second week and watch Fred have a shocker. I'd be trying to leave too. Ole said after the game today that Ronaldo signing meant that some players would get less playing time and they had offers from various clubs. Again, if I were Jesse I'd be running out the door. He has next to no chance of playing a decent amount with all the players ahead of him. He showed his quality at West Ham last season - he should go tear it up somewhere and fight for his England spot.

If Donny does go - i think we'd definitely have to move for a CM. We would have Pogba, Matic, Fred and MCT as CM options.

Move Jones, Lingard, VDB and Martial all on please and use everything to bring a defensive midfielder in as that’ll be the difference between a title challenge and a trophy or nothing.

Martial, Lingard and James sales would make Rice very attainable.
Nobody wants Jones.

We should sign a proper CM, someone who is very good defensively. Not a 'sitting type DM' but a CM who is good defensively. When your CM loses every battle, it unsettles whole team. It looked like whole team played with fear of losing possession as Adama was tearing the team apart and Fred was bypassed so easily.

Someone like Tchouaméni (I didn't watch him, just watched his individual performance vs Shakhtar) should be a good signing, at least a CM who can perform like that week in week out. Winning possession, playing quick passes, one time passes.

We might see a few outgoings, but I doubt we will sign anyone. I would be pleasantly surprised if we did.

I’m sure Ole and co will have realised from yesterday that we desperately need a better DM, otherwise there will be no point having all that attacking talent, with the midfield getting overrun even by average teams.

Isn't the window closing tomorrow? Doubt we can sell and sign someone by then.

We should have been working on it all summer - hopefully will have been. The state of our midfield should not be a surprise to Ole, yesterday was just the latest example.

After signing Ronaldo, there will be zero incoming signings and more likely the glazers want utd to off load a player or two to reduce the way bill.

Shame that once again we price players i.e. lingaard out of moves to other PL clubs. Perriera, Lingaard, Jones should have all gone somehow permanently.

It's a bit mad that there's two days left and we still have Lingard here.

Even more mad that we haven't signed a midfielder though.

What may I ask has given you so much confidence in them so far? Spending 150m on less important positions and then saying he's happy?

Even if we loaned out Jones, VDB, Lingard, James and Martial just to get them all off the wage bill that’s a saving of around £700K a week but I don’t see why we can’t move them permanently.

We signed Sancho and Varane, yes. After that we were looking to sell before buying a central midfielder with more defensive attributes but then Ronaldo almost signed for City to we prioritised our prestige as a club (along with 30 goals a season and dressing room influence).

If we can shift some players we will sign a midfielder

The fact we havent signed a central midfielder thus window demonstrates we still arent a serious football club. Still not sure why we signed donny when ole seems to think he can only play in brunos position

Signing ronaldo is good but find it hard to shake the belief it was driven by the glazers commercial interests rather than for football reasons

apart from the fact that all the footballing people were pressing them to make the signing because of the prestige element of allowing our city rivals to sign a former player who is one of the best players in the world.

It would have diminished us as a club to get him go there.

I do think there is no reason we shouldnt be able to sign ronaldo and buy a midfielder. However i do think your argument that it him going to city would have diminished us as a club is a crock of shit. Its the kind of thinking that has held us back post fergie, too often we have been focussed on our legacy and stature rather than focussing on improving the team.

Ronaldo will definitely add something but wont be able to cover for our complete lack of quality in central midfield

We clearly need a CDM, the only proper one we have is Matic and he's unfortunately past it. We can't play Pogba as part of a double pivot, that's obvious. McTominay isn't a CDM, I really like him but he's better further forward and is really a squad option to me. Fred just doesn't have the quality, he's a weak link.

I don't think we'll get a CDM in before the deadline though, so we have to go with what we have.

So do you think we will challenge for the title this season?
Do you think not challenging for the title means we're not a serious football club? We all want to be winning trophies but the implication that us not buying a midfielder makes us a joke club, when we've spent over 100 million already this window is spoilt.

Do I think we'll win the league? No. But it's one of the most competitive leagues in the world and there are other very good sides in it. For what it's worth, I don't think we'll be a million miles away and I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of.

if we free up a bit of wages, by way of loaning lingard & james; that might give us some leeway to loan saul.

That is the best case scenario i think.

I actually can't believe you took the time to reply to this poster.

In other news,

According to Fab, Leeds are in advanced talks for a deal without loan option for James.

One of the maddest posts ever.
Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo in, yet we're not a serious football club.
Honestly.

Right, so everyone shouts for a dmc, but who has the class we're looking for?

You can't say Kante.

We need a CDM no questions asked.

FFP isn't an issue if we can move on players in next 2 days or even in January.

Also, Ronaldo will bring us a lot of extra income, so in theory we are not gonna be struggling financially or on FFP front.

Maybe we can even afford a hitman to take out #4

Don't believe another signing is gonna happen. This James thing is just about numbers and Ronaldo also coming in.

Why do fans think Saul is ever going to be comfortable as a holding defensive midfielder? He simply isn’t that kind of player.

I think lingard and James will move. Saul on loan would be worth the risk but it seems unlikely we will see any more players coming in.

I think we'll get another signing but it depends on who leaves and for how much.

Ole and the staff aren't stupid, they will be aware we need a midfielder. But clearly we don't have the funds, Ronaldo was most likely a forced transfer by us, not in the slightest bit planned but once City came into view we were forced to act. So it'll be the same scenario prior to Ronnie signing in that we need to sell to be able to buy.

Ndidi, Rice or Bissouma all massively improve us in that position.
Would any of these be able to both shield the defence and free up Pogba and Fernandes?

It's a massive task to ask to be fair.
We're asking 1 dm to do what we can't even do with 2 central midfielders at the moment.
