Hope Medvedev in true Medvedev form will not rise above telling the crowd to get fecked.

I thought the crowd thing was the whole American’s backing a champion rather than an underdog thing but I guess it’s just because he’s Russian?

Hope he doesn't give any of those obligatory crowd shout outs during his winners speech. Utter thundercunts.

Medvedev will need two breaks if he needs to win this set.

You haven't learnt from watching Novak, have you? The man can be in the midst of a total meltdown, look dead and injured and he'll still be zipping around in the 5th set and winning it 6-2.
As I said. Didn't look like the norm from him.

Well done to Medvedev.

I really hope Medvedev gives the crowd the finger. Absolute disgrace all that cheering on double faults.
Not only that, just literally screaming boo during his serve. Honestly never seen that before at this level. Not even here.

They were cheering for the Russian until Djokovic looked like a crazy underdog in the final set
Ahh OK, I was watching it on my phone in bed so had the volume off. Just going by comments in this thread that they’d been backing Djok.

I didn't post it at the time but Medvedev has never lost a match on hard court after winning the first set

Nah nothing with him being Russian. I think a combination of wanting to see a long match and wanting to see Djokovic complete history.

The crowd got behind him in 2019 (despite having clashes earlier in the tournament) when he was 2 sets down to Nadal

It is impossible to make a bad pun out of the name Medvedev. Though I'm sure Russia will be proud of the effort he Putin

Whoever I bet on
Thank you, Medvedev!

Now I will have to not open any domestic news sites for only two days instead of one month, as all the headlines during that time would be regarding Djokovic, had he won it.

Controlled performance by Daniil. Excellent win, and he was so composed too. I feared he might bottle it in that last set and I’m pretty sure it would have gone five sets if he had lost the third.

Well done, it was a long time coming but he deserved to win his first major at last, it was about time.

It’s the eye movement at the end that cracks me up.

Don't think his speech was cringe at all. Djokovic isn't used to having a crowd on his side - ever. It just probably overwhelmed him that he had all this support for a change and he couldn't perform at his best.

Yeah I thought so too. Finally had the crowd full behind him. He won't have forgotten those Federer matches where missed serves were cheered, so was nice for him to be the one be backed this time.

Easy route to the final but impressive nonetheless. Slight blip against VDZ, but all extremely comfortable, including the final.

Medo in three. Or I'll never ever predict their finals match up at US Open again.

Djokovic getting a taste of his own medicine against Medvedev can be summed up by paraphrasing Qui Gon Jin - there's always a bigger parked bus.

That is probably the easiest path you can ever have to reach a Slam final. Novak, on the other hand, had an absolute horror draw with Berretini, Zverev and Med back to back. With Roger and Rafa out, that is probably the hardest draw he could have faced given the form of these opponents.
