The usual proof that ole needs his best players on the pitch pulling off individual magic to get good results, where as proper top class managers can rotate and still pick up wins with weakened sides.

How Moss doesn’t see that bottler Mark Noble holding back Jesse Lingard’s shirt/shorts is just completely impossible to understand when the clown himself is literally staring right fecking at it. It’s a stonewall penalty!

Absolute baffling decision to say the least!

I wonder how long we give Sancho before we start getting slightly worried.
I’m not that worried. He’s shown in moments that he is capable of ridiculous close control and when he gets the ball under his control in the box facing goal he’s a nightmare to defend against.

He just needs to learn that he needs that sharpness every time the ball comes to him and everywhere on the pitch because otherwise he’s going to keep losing it.

We have actually played decently and have had lots of team play too

Unless they're coming back from injury and need a run out then I wouldn't want any first choice players, even if that means playing someone badly out of position. Mata can play left back for all I care.
Much closer than some of these hysterical line ups I've been reading.

People predicting Shaw, Maguire, Pogba for a League Cup game and I've only read a few.:)

wrong, he’s in the right place. unlucky deflection.
The right place is never not marking an attacker or blocking a crossing avenue. Two or three defenders were in the space Van De Beek was moving towards.

This hasn't been a terrible first half by any means. We've just started off the pace and shaky defensively and West Ham took advantage of that. Still wouldn't put my money on us not winning that. We have been a way better side ever since.

As far as individual performances go:
Sancho looks overwhelmed by the pace and the level of defending in England so far. Lingard has been really positive, lively and leading our attacks. Mata and Matic with a touch of class here and there. Telles has not improved defensively since last season, he gets beaten way too easily and his attacking play is not that good to excuse that. Van de Beek looking very good on the ball. Constantly passing forward and looking for the ball. But, on the other hand, I thought that he was a part of the reason we started so slow, as defensively everything was passing him by. Bailly is a ticking bomb. He does make amazing defensive contribution here and there, but he just doesn't give you that assurance at the back, which you would expect from a center back. Martial was decent at carrying the ball and playing quick one touch football. But so much more is expected from a center forward. His finishing has been off and he's never where he should be when we are putting in crosses from the wide positions.

If we dont score in the next 10 minutes i hope we substitute Bruno and Greenwood for Mata and Sancho.
I bloody well hope not. Greenwood, maybe, but Bruno should stay on the bench.

And I wouldn't take Sancho off under any circumstances. He needs games, needs time.

Really liked Dalot's switch of play from right to left. Shaw would get so much joy on those type of switches with his pace.
Nice! Agreed! Glad someone piped up about that. I think some people are more interested in drawing attention to the bad stepovers and conveniently ignore the positive to suit their narrative.

Apart from Telles, everyone has done decently, just lacking that cutting edge. We need to stop with the high crosses from the left as we're never going to win a header with Martial in there. The lower whipped in crosses from Dalot on the right were much more dangerous. If we're still down in 60 minutes, Bruno/Elanga and Greenwood for Mata and Martial should be enough as the midfield of Matic and Donny have done well.

I don't like to go on about refs but these last two games have really gotten under my skin. The excuse from the officials will undoubtedly be no VAR but shouldn't the rules be the same for all competitions? It's getting tiring to see one set of rules for the PL, one for this cup and one for the CL.

I would've been ok with it if we at least gave some youngsters a chance. Watching Matic and Mata huff and puff is soul destroying. Up front is all as slow and predictable as ever. It's just one huge waste of everyone's time.

A whole season? This is only his 6th game in a English football!
At least Rashy is back after the international break.
With our options we can at least take him out of the firing line at the right time.

And the Ronaldo signing was absolutely huge for Sancho. It's taken the heat off him massively.

Our attacking play and build up has been better than it was during our win in the weekend. Of course we will miss Shaw, Maguire and Varane at the back but our squad players are doing well.

Same old story. A team with inferior players in all 11 positions is managing to produce more than us. Same tepid start to a game. I wonder why...
They haven’t actually produced more though. We had a solid pen shout turned down. Martial passes when he should have scored. Lingard tested Areola from distance. Multiple good runs from Matic, Sancho, Martial etc. We’ve done ok just not quite taken a chance.

Compare that with West Ham who’ve actually done very little outside of the goal.

It's been the same story with Mata for about 4 years now.
Baffling that we choose to keep him on seemingly just to turn out in 3 or 4 of these sort of fixtures a season.

the ball was coming straight into his path. he read it well but it deflects off lindelofs leg and luckily falls to lanzini.

you can’t be reactionary and say it’s his fault when something like that happens. he commits to block the cut back and he would have. if he didn’t and it fell to bowen like it was going to then people would still blame him.

what he did was not the wrong decision at all, you always cover the front post.

He looks quite unfit at the moment to be honest. Isn't able to keep up with the pace of the game at and easily brushed off the ball. I am sure he will get better as he becomes match fit and would do much better. But whether he would able to score or create as many goals as he did for Dortmund is still an open question.

It's not that story at all, there's barely anything in the game, bar they took their main chance, and we've not.

However, we never look particularly jointed when we play these mishmash squad and fringe player line-ups.

Bailly and Lindelof unexpectedly dominant in the air so far. Bailly won 5 and Lindelof 4 aerials in first half, compared to 2 for Maguire and 0 for Varane for the full 90 minutes when we faced them a few days ago.

If the ball was cut back to where Van De Beek was then it would’ve drifted away to another United player. No West Ham player was there. It’s shite defending.

Why would it be a disaster?

One less competition to give players a chance or to try some new things.

Also despite some people doing so I don't turn my nose up at any trophy especially since we are 4 years without one.

Winning this in February would be great to get the monkey off our back

He wont get much with these crap performances if we go out of the Carabao. We have a big squad and need this tournament for the fringe players.

    disagree
    He does actually.
    disagree

if he just stood on the edge of the box he would be labelled as ball watching. he did the right thing but deflections happen.

After Kagawa and Mhky, bossing the German league then coming here and being underwhelming, it surely can't happen a 3rd time surely?
He's got too much quality you'd think. But I've never been particularly impressed in England games, but written that off as "being England".

Encouraging general play. Matic and Donny good, also Mata and Lingard. I’d like to see Sancho and Martial score in this half.

Has Sancho been bad? I only watched the last 20 mins of the first half and he was fine. Showed some really good close control - think he'll set Lingard up for 1-1.

Yeah, nothing to do with the fact none of these players are match fit or anything, or simply shit.
