Fully expected this when I saw the line up. Its like Ole decided he'd give a game to all the shit ones.

What a poor performance from Martial. Looked okay till the final third but just nothing from the striker. Ronaldo and Cavani being at the club just shows how much he needs to do to get in the side.

With Cavani today we win that game.

Ah well. So long as Solskjaer understands he's just reduced his chances of silverware by 25% already. Never a fan of heavy rotation unless against lower league opposition. Wanted to go far in every competition this season so this kinda sucks!

27 shots and barely created a clear cut chance. Strange game, but we've seen it all before.

Why did Martial play the 90. Should have subbed him off for Greenwood. Made no sense. Main striker not in squad. The only other one who is having a good season playing wide right while the other player in form gets subbed although he was doing decent.
Tactical masterclass from ole

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
Cue the overreactions...

In all seriousness, West Ham hardly had a kick until the final 10 minutes when we just threw the kitchen sink at them. Martial let me down, he's so gifted on the ball but has absolutely 0 instincts off of it. Sancho was promising again and clearly gifted. Not worried about him. Mata and Telles are pretty pointless. VdB has a good footballing brain but he's pretty terrible defensively. Still more encouraging from him today.

Also Bruno was fecking horrific coming on trying to be the hero, and Lingard showed why he's not quite first XI material because he doesn't quite have the ability on the ball or creativity to thrive in full matches against teams that play deep. Much better as a bench option to come on and try and bag a goal.

Not overly upset with going out of the League cup early on. Will keep players fresh for future games. Despite the performance, there were some positives to take away from the game.

It's been proven that Martial just needs to pack his bags. I literally cannot see a single thing he has to offer this squad. Absolutely stealing money. Get him sold.

DVB had a solid game, and I wish he gets more game time as the season goes on. I would put him on par with Fred, and over time, surpass him given the chance.

Elanga showed some good promise too, and another option for left back.

They got their early goal and gave Utd the ball all game and still created the better chances.

Absolutely no composure in the final third.

Good: love Mason, dvb got 90 and did fine, Jesse looking lively.
Bad: martial. Just fecking retire already.

Team came out unprepared, entirely on the coaching staff. Pathetic since we started with a pretty strong team too.
Trying to tell if this is serious.

Everyone knew what we were getting into when Ole completely rotated the team. Stick Ronaldo in that performance and we’d have scored a decent amount.

It’s a shame one of the main games we’d have benefitted from Cavani as back up, and he’s not even made the bench.

I went into this game with the mindset that I didn't really care too much about the result and was looking forward to see the players who don't feature that often. It was a decent spectacle and I don't really mind going out of the league cup.

That should be the last game Martial plays for us. Get someone from the academy as 3rd backup.

No real surprises, we always struggle with major team changes. Poor defending for the WHU goal other than that we controlled most of the game. DVB played well imo bar the goal. Looks a good DM candidate to me.
Martial was utter shite, no movement, no threat no desire.
Shame we are out as this comp as it gives the fringe players a few games
WH very organised 2 banks of 4 when we were in possession very reminiscent of Moyes old Everton teams. other than that they were bang average.

Thought there were some promising performances there.

also think some United players are really struggling now. Mara and Telles are surely going to struggle for game time with their performances.
Tell that to Ole.

Unlucky with everything today but one thing is clear as day. There are some players not good enough and we need to understand why Solskjaer has some doubts about playing people.

Matic's knee to the bollocks was easily the highlight.

I can't say I'm that bothered to be out of this competition, despite the fact we need to win trophies, as it's become a waste of time and I'm happy to get early-season minutes into a few legs. Hopefully missing the rest of the rounds of this will suit us later on.

Best to avoid the Martial thread for a couple of days.. In seriousness though, we are devoid any threat whatsoever when he plays.

We did OK, but you just knew West Ham were gonna come like this was a cup final to them after the weekend, so not surprised we lost to be honest. To slow and ponderous on the ball.

Yeah am not happy with the way we’re playing this season. There’s no signs of us gelling and that’s worrying. Areola didn’t have to make one big save.
Ole wont be under pressure cause of that.

Build up is better, we did have period we control but the link up play is just random, so wasteful with the chances as it look like player just decide on what to do at last moment. Lack that bit of composure.

To be expected when you make so many changes, the back line was a comedy of errors at times, Telles and Bailly were awful, Lindelof OK and Dalot doing nothing going forward. Attacking wise we had an off day, we had enough chances to be winning that.

Martial was so so poor, genuinely awful performance.

Some tired bodies out there by the end. The worst thing about this defeat is getting the squad players minutes.

Some decent performances in there, VdB, Sancho showed flashes but not sure any of the starters tonight have a case to start on Saturday.

Some of the shooting on show was non-league, including from them!

Thought we played some decent stuff but had the penetration of an ice cream dildo, I don't get some saying they don't care, this team needs any trophy and the competition was a good chance for competitive matches for our squad players, I mean that was a first 11 team for a bulk of PL sides we had out there tonight, more games the better with our depth.

Never felt like Utd would score until Greenwood came on. Really fed up with Martial now. He lacks fight and always seems to lose out at the final moment. Utd squad is far too large. This should be a competition to blood youth. One less chance to win a trophy now, and less game time for younger players.

Good football with no end product. Our chances of winning a trophy at the end of season has now reduced...

Jon Moss got his fat body in the way of the ball and a further minute later we carried on. He then blows up immediately. Ridiculous.

Man Utd 1:0 West Ham - Lanzini (9')
To have a man unmarked in the box is criminal.

Elonga tracked back remarkably from what I saw. The fight he had alone is enough to displace martial. We need more hopeful people up top. Caught the last twenty five minutes and we really took it to them and clearly had more chances. Doesn’t bother me so much. With champions league and the league I’m alright with missing out on the caraboa cup.

Not taking off Martial for Greenwood was a huge mistake by Ole tonight. Likely cost us the game.

Sancho showed glimpses
Matic tried
Greenwood good when he came on

VdB meh. Worst rating even on who scored
Martial piss poor

Again denied clear penalty.

Fun match and some decent stuff. Not bothered

That was all about the failings of the front 4. Any quality or intelligence there and we cruise that game. But Martial is just bad these days, Sancho is all over the place (albeit with the occasional nice touch), Mata is finished and Lingard is just trying to tee up his next glory goal. So poor.

I think my heatmap tonight would cover more ground than Martial's, and I just went to the fridge a couple of times.

A lot of players played well. Donny and Matic were good for the most part. Lingard was solid, and Greenwood excellent when he came on. Sancho grew into the game, but looked knackered by 70 minutes. We had a shedload of chances but just took none of them.

Noble could have been off by halftime, and we definitely should have had a penalty for that shirtpull, which Moss was staring right at.
