That crossball from Fred

Remember a sport commentator called David Coleman, back in the day, had a one-liner: "The shot was good but the save was better"
Ronnies goal was good, considering the tight angle but Fred's pass was even better.
I've watched it a number of times and to be able to deliver that ball with his left foot from that position was world class.
Worth a thread imo as the goal was crucial for the club, coming in the last minute of the game and shows there's a footballer in there.

He was good in Shakhtar and Fonseca who was in charge then had opinion Fred should be more of an attacking asset.

"In my opinion, his position is in a midfield two as the more attacking of two central midfield players,” Fonseca added.

“He is physically strong and mobile, with the quality to build play, but he is also very good at breaking from midfield and going to either side of the attack.”

it was actually a shit cross, considering the timing etc, should have been put straight into the mixer, not shanked out to the edge of the box.

Not thread worthy even for Fred. Pogba delivers plenty of far more amazing balls across any given season.
But yes it was a good ball. Someone actually called it mediocre yesterday. When you are against a player so much so that you completely lose objectivity.

It was a poor cross and was going out of play. No way was he picking Ronaldo out there (who had to backtrack to reach it). Any other day and it would have gone out for a throw in.

Greenwood had a peach of a cross to cavani. Fred's was nothing special, needed a weird give and go to get a chance out of it

Yes, he should have done what we did all match. Blindly lump it into the mix. As opposed to actually picking out a player.

You must be his brother? Fred did well yesterday, but this cross doesn’t deserve it’s own thread.

The feck? It was a fairly straightforward hit and hope cross. If we're gonna hype up anything about the build up to the late goal, it should be Cavani's tenacity and work rate to keep the ball beforehand or Lingard's deft touch for Ronaldo to tap in.

Hahaha

why are you highlighting it was his left foot when he is left footed haha

Wes browns cross against Chelsea CL final was with his wrong foot and perfect for Ronnie to head home, that was class from right back

You’re talking about a lump into the box that Ronaldo and lingard did brilliant things with in order to create a chance

I can see you’re trying to get a bite, we’ll done you’ll get lots

He didn’t pick him out though, Ronaldo had to stop and check back on his run after he saw the ball going behind him.

To give Fred some benefit of the doubt, he probably couldn’t have played it any further forward without the defender blocking the cross.

Such an effective way to attack that. Like that game under Moyes vs Fulham.

i made the quite obvious point that it was the last seconds of the game, obviously you play the percentage ball, which is what he was trying because that's what most players are conditioned to do. it was down to ronaldo and lingard that something came of it. if your gonna credit fred for doing something extra-ordinary for that, then it really is clutching at straws. might as well give fred the red a pat on the back too.

He’s also left footed. So the cross was on his good foot. To those saying it was a shite cross? Same lads are probably saying play *anyone else* there every day but almost total silence about how Pogba and McT were dreadful in there last night. “Play McT as the 6, he’s a miles better player” “Even though Pogba can’t really defend at all and takes ages on the ball and loses it at least half the time he’s still surely a better option than Fred”

Fred comes on and someone finally wins the ball in midfield on the counter (you know actual midfielder stuff?) and knocks it forward and then sends in the telling cross to Ronaldo

Redcafe : he’s still shite, he didn’t mean it, terrible cross etc

Never change lads. At least this way you can’t ever be wrong. Even when you are.

He had time to see it and make a few steps to get into position to control it. If he sent it any more forward the defender would have cleared it. Yes, on another day when Ronaldo plays as a statue it would go out of play.
0:16 in case anyone cares.

It was a clever bit of play just to actually make the run on the outside. Not many of our midfielders do that

It was okay. It gave Ronaldo the chance to keep it alive but not shoot. Lingard's pass back to Ronaldo was better

Ehm, what? It wasn't a shit cross but it was barely even a good one (Ronaldo had to adjust a lot and it didn't create a goalscoring opportunity right away), let alone being something that warrants a new thread.

Yes this was the best one, Greenwood gets such good pace on those balls in. Fred's was poor, you can see Ronaldo having to back pedal just to reach it.

Funnily enough when I saw Ole's celebration after Ronaldo's goal it instantly reminded me of Moyes celebration from that Fulham game.

My god the standards of this club have gone off a cliff.

It was a decent cross. Nothing more. There was still so much for Ronaldo and Lingard to do.

You're aware he's left-footed?

All he did was stand it up to the back post any half competent footballer should be able to do that.

Fred comes on at left back, intercepts a poor pass in the left back position and then puts in a cross from the left wing.

Why are you going on about midfield?
