They can really ask for something and it can be given on a plate but still they won't show interest

Great stuff.

Did we really need this? It's taking up space on the front page we could use for more Ole out threads.

We had only like 3 good crosses in the hole game, glad this was one of them , Im not sure we practice crosses.
Interesting point that. Game after game there seems to be a reluctance to hit them. I know we don’t play like Liverpool who’s dogmatic approach to hitting balls into the box is sometimes too predictable but ffs mix it up a
Bit!

Let’s start a ‘How Good Was Lingard’s Touch And Lying Down?’ Thread
Deffo needed.

How can it be the important bit if it wouldn't have happened without the cross? I'm off, I'm being drawn into the most stupid of conversations....
..and Fred cross would not have happened without Bruno's simple pass before? Point is, cross was decent but nothing special, not thread worthy. It should be expected from him. Hence I gave Lingard role example because though nothing great, in comparison it is better decision making, under more pressure from defenders.

And none of that happens if Cavani doesn’t battle and show strength to keep the ball.

I’m short it’s the definition of a good team move

He’s also left footed. So the cross was on his good foot. To those saying it was a shite cross? Same lads are probably saying play *anyone else* there every day but almost total silence about how Pogba and McT were dreadful in there last night. “Play McT as the 6, he’s a miles better player” “Even though Pogba can’t really defend at all and takes ages on the ball and loses it at least half the time he’s still surely a better option than Fred”

Fred comes on and someone finally wins the ball in midfield on the counter (you know actual midfielder stuff?) and knocks it forward and then sends in the telling cross to Ronaldo

Redcafe : he’s still shite, he didn’t mean it, terrible cross etc

Never change lads. At least this way you can’t ever be wrong. Even when you are.
Except he played left back

It was a poor cross and was going out of play. No way was he picking Ronaldo out there (who had to backtrack to reach it). Any other day and it would have gone out for a throw in.
Ronaldo and Lingard made that goal

But he won the ball in left central midfield. Can you recall McT or Pogba winning the ball in central midfield and getting us forward on the counter? I genuinely can’t. It’s a lot more important to our more effective play than people give it credit for
He won the ball from left back, Shaw does it all the time

Your comparing the wrong players in this instance.

I agree he should be in midfield ahead of mct though.

So you’re saying Fred never wins the ball in that area? Nonsense. He wins the ball and puts it forward like that in every game
Youre putting words into my mouth. He was playing left back.

He had time to see it and make a few steps to get into position to control it. If he sent it any more forward the defender would have cleared it. Yes, on another day when Ronaldo plays as a statue it would go out of play.
0:16 in case anyone cares.

@Ali Dia, pause the video at exactly 4 seconds. He isn't even in the picture because he comes forward from left back to pounce on a stray pass.

It's incomparable to mct or pogba because they'd never be in that position.

He was but the area he won the ball is an area he also regularly wins it when he plays in midfield. He regularly drifts over to shaws side to cover his forward runs. His ball to Bruno for his cross against West Ham was in that channel. The direct effective pass forward after winning ball in that area is something he regularly does but doesn’t get any credit for. Ball winning and turning over play is huge and he’s pretty much the only one in midfield who regularly does it.

I'm not arguing against that, you're just using the wrong instance to beat mct and pogba with this stick.

If he was playing midfield in that game last night he would or should have been pressing the guy that misplaced the pass at the halfway line, not sweeping it up from left back.

It's Shaw you should be comparing him to in this piece of play, and up until the cross to Ronaldo, he does that regularly for us.

Good cross. Well done Fred. If he doesn't pick Ronaldo out there in the last attack of the game we probably don't win. Just give the guy some credit you lunatics.

I am confused. Why are we now creating new threads for crosses/passes that someone did? It wasn't even an assist, and it has it's own thread?

It seemed like just a run-of-the-mill cross to me?

I really believe that in the world, on amateur sub-15 football matches, there must be thousands of better crosses every year but this turd cross which was lucky enough to go to where ronaldo was standing gets its own thread

Fred is an average player, but i thought it was a decent cross, not a worldie though. We only had three players in the box, he must of been looking for Ronaldo, he was not central. If the ball has gone towards Lingard, it gets cleared, to Cavani, he is swamped. I give Fred the benefit for this one, credit where due. For me, the main part of the goal was Cavani none stop work rate to keep the ball up the pitch and get it into the box. His run then into the box distracts the Villareal, they then focus on the ball swinging to Ronaldo and by then, the opportunity to recover the ball is gone because Ronaldo is a beast in the air. Lingards nudge was good, i question whether he meant it but again, credit where due, i give him that one. He has been on fire lately, bar west ham in the cup and young boys.

I knew Ronaldo being in the club was going to glorify some shite crosses.

I never thought it would be Fred that is glorified out of all our clown crossers

He meant to shoot it on target but instead he missed so hilariously badly that it ended up meeting CR7's head. Lucky fluke.

No need for a forensic view on the cross, main thing is it went in there and amounted to a goal. Anything else is irrelevant. How many are saying the keeper should have saved the shot or the defenders dealt better with the cross?

There were literally multiple better crosses from Greenwood in the same game.

It didn't find Ronaldo or nothing happened off of it - so ultimately its useless.

Missed chances are useless.

A last minute goal that helps us win the match is great - and that was from a cross from Fred and some work of Ronaldo, Cavani and Lingard - all players bought on from Ole too .

The feck? It was a fairly straightforward hit and hope cross. If we're gonna hype up anything about the build up to the late goal, it should be Cavani's tenacity and work rate to keep the ball beforehand or Lingard's deft touch for Ronaldo to tap in.
This.
Fred by the law of averages will get one right every now and again. Hes even scored the odd goal ffs.
