Figured I might as well add to the growing catalogue of manager threads.

Given the desire some people have to hire a progressive young manager and given we've had reports that we'd prefer a Bristish manager and/or someone with PL experience, would you be happy with Potter?

To my mind he's a much more interesting option than Rodgers, for example.

I kind of hope we go for some left field choice like Potter, we have tried obvious choices and they haven't worked. Only concern would be handling some of the larger egos in our dressing room.

Solskjær lacks competence and also charisma, he lacks the natural power that makes the players listen and respect him. He does have the status to compensate, but we see how dangerous that is and how it is all breaking up.

Potter has the competence, but does he have the power? I highly doubt that, but I have no idea really and it will be interesting to see in the future. Managing United is a different political circus, it’s not for everyone.

Not yet. At least let him prove he can do better than to save a newly promoted club from Relegation. That's a pretty low bar when it comes to competing for the title.

He’d be like my 5th (realistic) choice after Ten Hag/Conte, Zidane, and Rodgers. I’d have concerns over him making the step up but it’s clear he knows good football when he sees it.

These players would think they are bigger than listening to Potter. It wouldn't work.

I can't believe I'm swaying towards Conte such is the lack of options.

If we’re determined to go for a British/Irish, knows the league, plays good football etc type, then I’d rather Potter over Rodgers.

As long as he has a beard yes. Otherwise he just looks too strange to look at.

No, why on earth would we? I don’t understand what credentials he has to be United manager.

Given the options, absolutely yes. Admired what he's done at Brighton and a poster have me a run down on his career last season and it was quietly a really good career throughout so far. I think he'll do well.

Posters saying he needs to prove himself elsewhere will get their wish. Only he'll end up at Liverpool or somebody eventually and the same posters will be berating United for not taking a chance on him when they had the chance.

I’d be delighted with Potter. Brighton play some great football - way better than the drivel we’ve had to endure for a few seasons. With our players, I think Potter would be brilliant.
Between him and Ten Hag for me. Shame neither will happen - nor will Ole getting the boot unfortunately.

Personally, if it was up to me then he'd be on the shortlist but some way down it. I don't see how he'd be anyone's first choice.

However, if we were determined to hire a British manager or someone from within the PL (and I have no idea why we would want to take that approach, but whatever) then it should be him imo.

In my opinion the best option if we want a british coach (dont get why we would though). His teams looks well coached and play «modern football». While Brighton lack individual quality they are tactically strong with good structure and balance. They press well (their numbers are best in the PL this year) and their build up is excellent.

And unlike Rodgers, he has not proven to be not good enough.

That being said, it would be a potential high risk, high reward move. It is impossible to say how he would do at a big club

Yes.

I've been a bit of a fan since 2019. He was showing a clear playing style from the start with Brighton while people were talking how Ole needs time to implement his.

People keep saying bring him in because he has clear playing style, tell me, is that all it takes to manage Man Utd?? Christ, we really have been suffering

You took Ole on purely due for nostalgic reasons so it’s hardly outrageous to suggest Potter. I think he would do well for a top side.

Hypothetically, if Rodgers went to Man Utd, Leicester would go straight for Potter.

This is the thing that most miss, if he goes to a Spurs, Leicester or Newcastle and they overtake us it becomes difficult and more expensive for us to poach him and suddenly he is also on the horizon of other comparable clubs like Liverpool and City.

Given the options and our board's reluctance to consider a European coach I think he would be better for us than Rodgers or keeping Ole. How high he can take us would then demand on other aspects like recruitment and how we'd back him vs big players not buying into his methods (a very real possibility).

Ole only got the job because he played for us. There’s no lower bar.

If Potter was German, and managing a club of a similar standard as Brighton in the Bundesliga, I could see him being a Dortmund style appointment. Dortmund have a good recent history of giving chances to managers at smaller clubs. Tuchel and Klopp being the most notable.

I think he has Brighton playing very good football. Dominated City in the second half, but finishers are a massive issue for Brighton. That is why I see enormous promise with him. We have finishers, so if he can instil those tactics in our game it could be a successful formula. He is one of a few managers I wouldn't mind being appointed.

Agreed.

After Ole there will be no sentimental draw between the club, fans and our next manager, which is seemingly making us reluctant to do anything about Ole. After Ole, every other manager should be backed but also handled ruthlessly. If Potter or whoever is failing, we need to start taking action sooner than we currently do. And no talking about Fergie needing 6 years etc. We need to stop thinking like that.

Similarly if another manager comes along who is clearly great, we need to be willing to make the switch to secure them. Basically, we need to act like a big club with big ambitions.

He's a future prospect in the likes of Ten Hag that I like and that we should keep a close eye on, but not right now. Right now we need a winner that can actually win us something after 4 years of drought. Graham is a big risk at the moment. One we shouldn't take when a world class manager is available.

Sitting nicely above United in the table with a far far worse availability of talent. I personally would like him to be considered for the United job, Brighton play good football and he gets the best out of his players. Should be a contender.

I think he needs to prove himself at a higher level first. It's clear he's good tactically and can organise his team well but he'd need to be an exceptional talent for us to take a punt on him this early in his development. I don't think he's shown enough to warrant that kind of risk. He's definitely one to keep an eye on though.

Yes. He's one of the best coaches around. Much better than the likes of Rogers.

If we are hellbent on the stupid idea of getting a British manager then he's the best option, I think he could coach the team into finally giving us a distinctive, attacking style of play, his Brighton side craft lots of openings but lack the firepower he'd have here. Obviously he's a big risk given he's never managed a big club, but I don't think the pressure under our soft ass board and British punditry line of defense would be an issue, the main concern would be how he'd deal with the star names.

After all this, you are delighted at the thought of another unproven project?

Would take him over Ole …but Utd need to be raising the bar much higher.

He’s accomplished about as much as Nagelsmann or Rose, yet people will dismiss him as not experienced enough for a big job.

Just like the other two there’s a risk he could be a flop. But if our more experienced options are a dour Conte or a non English speaker like Zidane, I’d say why not. Just put him on a short term contract and if it isn’t working or there hasn’t been a significant improvement after 6/12 months get rid.

We don’t need rebuilds anymore, Ole has done that and done it well. With a relatively young squad we can get a bit trigger happy with underperforming managers for the next few years.
