    This (hopefully!)

It’s exactly the team I asked for yesterday when posting lineups.
I've been banging on all season about this

But was always shot down because Sancho. Pogba is one of our best players and this is the line up that gets the best out of him while simultaneously plugging the DM shaped hole. So let's go!

Standard Ole. Throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks, in this case 352. We will see this setup now until it gets figured out and we suffer a humiliating loss with it, then on to the next tactic.

I think Atalanta will have a breeze with that line-up. Ronaldo and Rashford won't do a tap of work up front and they can slot balls into midfield all night.

I'm fine with 352 and all that but it is Ole admitting his project has failed.

We have got 8 attackers now who won't play most of the time.

    Tonight it's
    Mata
    Greenwood
    Martial
    Sancho
    VDB
    Amad
    Cavani
    Lingard

Ok some of them like Mata and Amad it's ok to have no minutes but we still have a massive problem now that we only play 3 attackers and two are Ronaldo and Bruno so they play practically every game.

Rashford Greenwood and Cavani will share the third spot and the rest don't even have a spot to compete for.

We spent 70 mil on Sancho and now play a formation where his position doesn't exist.

So while this formation may work going forward, it is the start of an entirely new Project for Ole.
just because we’re playing this formation tonight and are likely to again at the weekend, doesn’t mean we’ll stick with it for the remainder of the season.

I think we’ll revert to 433 personally, time will tell.

First time I've got the starting XI bang on in a while. We should smash 'em.

Truth is neither Greenwood or Rashford have nothing to worry about as both suit being split strikers. Plus Cavani is clearly a rotation player. Ronaldo will be 37 anyway, so it's a formation that fits the future of these two players. Bruno and Pogba playing together also works. Lindelof Bailly and I'm guessing even Matic will have something to play for

I like this line up. Pogba and Bruno as 8. Let’s see what happens.

But is lindelof injuried ? We don’t have the depth to play 3 at the back.

Yeah I gotta admit I’m sort of annoyed I didn’t see it sooner as well.

I think my mindset with United defaults to wingers. I hope this formation works and we stick with it.

It’s going to be tough for Sancho and Greenwood but they can in theory rotate at CAM and striker respectively. But it would be living off scraps for Sancho for time being.

We gotta do what we gotta do. I want to see Rashford stretching their back line, lots of runs in behind for Bruno to hit, opening spaces for Ronnie.

Every formation gets figured out eventually. It then depends on how good the players are at executing it.

I'd say the opposite. It took Ole way too long to change something. The 4231 wasnt working and we persisted with it too long.

It may be the case that the 352 system doesnt work long term, but from a balance point of view, against Spurs was the best we've been this season, in my opinion.

I honestly think this is the best team we’ve fielded all season.

Mostly the team I expected. Wasn't sure if he would bring in Bailly or Telles for Lindelof. I am a bit surprised to see him bring Pogba back in. I expected the same midfield as the weekend. Rashford in for Cavani picks itself, ideally Ronaldo would be rested but it was never going to happen. I hope we can get a comfortable result where we can take off Ronaldo and Fernandes to rest up for the weekend.

little nervous about Pogba starting, will he put in the work rate that may be required, not like he's going to be the most attacking of the midfield 3, least he'll have a little more help than usual.

What a big night it must be for Rashford. While growing up he must have seen ronny becoming a club legend and eventually one of the best ever. And now he is starting in a strike partnership with him!

Hilarious if it wasnt so sad... Ole is in full survivor mode. Chuck on an extra defender and counter...

Long term planning is out of the window, we got a shorter than short term manager now who is just going to think 'how to survive the next match. Can we still get our Sancho money back since he has no place in Ole his 5-3-2. I doubt Ole can make a 3-4-3 like Contes his Chelsea work.

I just hope Rashford has the composure to find Ronaldo. He's a head down, cut in and shoot type player .. that's fine but Ronaldo is the same too. So let's see how it goes.

Been a while since I was this excited for a game!

I like the lineup just cant shake the feeling we should have bought an actual wing-back instead of stockpiling forwards if this is the formation we are going with.

I understand this is a reaction to the poor form, but still.. if you have a plan-b you should prepare for it to actually beeing used.

Hope we play well and get 3 points so we dont have our backs against the wall for the last two games.

One of the CBs will have to regularly step in into the midfield. Can't play a very deep line leaving midfield area empty with Pogba and Mctominay.

The thing that had us dominate against Spurs was how excellently we closed down the opposition in our half, and didn't allow them any time and space on the ball. I don't see how such a system works with Pogba, who is the most lackadaisical footballer I have ever seen. Let's see what happens.

As expected sticking with 3-5-2. Just thinking we could have gone 4-3-3 for this with Greenwood, Sancho and Rashford up front.
Are you mad? We got ripped by them playing 2 holding and 4 attackers in the home leg.

Ole has picked a good team for this match. Looking forward to seeing how Pogba plays in this formation .

Bailly playing and underestimating the McTominay love-in killed my 11/11.

He’s had about 5 games to show anything. He might never be good enough for United, but he’s had far from a fair opportunity at showing it.
in fact he played in 36 games and around 1500 minutes last season. thats nearly 17 full 90 mins. i would say thats enough game time to show promising signs but he didnt show anything. dvb is a love child of the ole outers - otherwise nobody would care about him.

Surprised he went with 5 at the back, thought he would revert to 4-2-3-1 for this and then 5 at the back against City. But it sums up Ole, stumbles on something, gets a win somehow and then abuses the system until it no longer works.

On paper I'm not sure about some of those decisions but it's a simple logical follow-up to the Spurs match in almost every way. McT was good, Fred was poor, so Fred is out. 5 at the back made us look tighter but Lindelof was poor, so Bailly is in instead.

The only thing Ole doesn't seem to weigh enough in my opinion is how crucial Cavani's movement is to making us play well. The whole attacking unit is always better when he's on the pitch. But maybe he can't always do two in a row these days, in which case fair enough, Rashford is the best alternative up front with Ronaldo because he's more capable of hanging up high and sticking to the task that Greenwood, who can't help dropping deep or wide to get involved.

Yeah, Pogba and rashford in for Fred and Cavani takes away a lot of the pressing, so these two really need to work their asses off tonight.
