Am I?

You're the one droning on about how Poch did an amazing job on a shoestring budget, yet you ignore the fact that Ten Hag's Ajax team cost a fraction of Poch's Spurs team. And even then Poch had to resort to hoofball and a 95 minute winner to scrape through. Hard to call it a bottling.

I see you're ignoring the fact that Wenger used to do what Poch was doing for years. But unlike Poch he would win the occasional FA cup here and there. The difference is we would laugh at Wenger, but for some reason, Poch who is a poor man's late stage Wenger is deemed as a great option for out club.

Sigh, how the standards have fallen on here.
Yes and I have explained how which you wilfully ignored. Plenty of shite managers have won cup competitions, you raising them only points out that it is not a fair way to pass total judgement on someone.

I have literally never mentioned any budget Pochettino has ever had. Can Ten Hag's flawless tactics not deal with simple "hoofball"? Will get found out very quickly in England if so.

I am not ignoring anything, your point is as ridiculous as the Arsenalfanstv idiots who constantly mocked Wenger and then quickly learnt their lesson when he finally left. Wenger is one of the best managers in the last 30 years. If Arsene Wenger had a reasonable amount of funding comparatively to his competition I would back him to come out on top a lot of the time. And even then! Pochattino has never had 1 full season where he could compete on a level playing field and this season when it looks like he might he is running away with the league (Not that it means much other than not being something you could beat him with)

Literally the only thing that anyone can sensibly criticise him about is the fact that he did not win the league with PSG when coming in halfway through the season. I personally just don't put much thought into anything that happens in that ridiculous joke of a league and I think he simply regretted going there pretty much instantly.

Do you reckon if Pochettino took charge of Ajax when Ten Hag did that he would have won any less? Fair enough if so but it would make me think you are detached from reality.

If he comes in now and misses top 4, should we sack him in the summer?

Like it might be unfair because Oles the one responsible for the shithole we're in this season. But life isn't fair.
We're 6 points behind 4th position, that gap could become bigger obviously in next few weeks under Carrick but probably/hopefully won't be 11 points as it was when we sacked Mourinho. If it's 6 points gap when Pochettino takes over then getting top 4 is completely doable and would be a failure if he can't achieve it, as Tottenham have weaker squad even though they have Conte.

No but we should sack him if he comes in and gets us knocked out of the champions league (even if wins the Young Boys game) :) . Although I don’t believe he’d be sacked if he finished 5th but I’d say a mid table spot might signal the end. At this moment in time I’d just rather think about the positives going forward.

I'm happy with Poch. I just want to see us play a style of football and we look like a team with a way of playing. We look like a team that work on training ground.

He will make us press high as a team and will ensure players do there work.

Like to see us play a 3-4-3 and we look like we are coached playing it.

Anyone shed any light on how he sets up his teams? Style of play? Any similarities from his teams at Southampton, Spurs and PSG?

I think if we want him and make it clear then he will move even now. His PSG contract runs only until next Summer if I remember correctly and it will most likely not get extended unless he wins Champions League, and competition is very strong so there's maybe 10% chance. He will most likely get a 5-year deal from us, with guaranteed payout if things go south, the quality of both teams is comparable so there's not much difference for CL challenge (though we may be out of it by the time we make a decision on him), and Premier League is a far more interesting league to manage in than Ligue 1.

Whether he's the right choice or not, I don't know. Not much between him and Ten Hag. Ten Hag has trophies but all of them were won in a league that is much easier to win, Poch will also get a Ligue 1 title if he lasts until May. Pochettino is a bit more experience at the top level of the game and has already been in Premier League.

I think giving him the job now would be good in the sense that he will get extra 6 months and that period can be crucial in getting to know the team, figure out main weaknesses to address in the Summer etc. It also saves us fans another six months of grim watch under Carrick or Bruce, and gives us a tiny bit of chance of making Champions League next year which is also kind of important here. I don't think we can get close to top 4 with Carrick, at the end of the day he was an important part of Solskjaer's coaching staff so no reason why we should be expecting anything different.

Poch is a B tier manager in my opinon. Ten Hag principles of possession and off the ball movement are more modern way of thinking. Poch was extremely quick to implement high pressing and full 90 minute running from his teams that caught the league by surprise. He also was competing in a league a long way off the standard of today.

100% mate. He's as close to a safe bet that we can get. I'm not on the TH hype train. Yes, Ajax play some great stuff, but there is no guarantee that we'd see the same with our players in a very different league. Poch is a great choice.
Ten Hag is definitely the young hipster choice by some who’ve barely seen his Ajax team play. He’s a good manager but Poch is PL proven and made a previously irrelevant Spurs team relevant and top 4 contenders. Do Spurs fans think that Conte or Jose would give them a serious look if it wasn’t for the period of success of being contenders under Poch? Rhetorical question of course, they know the answer.

Such nonsense but anyway off you go. PL proven is rubbish talk.

The fact he wants to come immidiately tells how unsettled he is at PSG imo, it's obviously not working, results have been good but performances not so much, it really seems like he's not a good fit for PSG and PSG are not good fit for Pochettino. With reports of Zidane being ready to come to PSG it could happen quickly.

Good thing if Pochettino comes to United is some players that we've got. Van de Beek and Bruno are players he wanted at Tottenham, Shaw played under him at Saints and players like Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood could benefit from playing under Poch as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we sign Trippier in summer or even in January.

I’d actually be happy with this appointment. Unless we’re going to snatch a coach of one of the PL top dogs, which obviously isn’t going to happen, there’s nobody out there that guarantees success - everyone comes with a risk. Poch is a very good coach/manager, a lot of our squad are just phoning it in and he’ll put them to work and get a tune out of them whilst slowly weeding out the weak. Falling short in the league and losing a CL final with Spurs isn’t a stick to beat him with and I honestly believe he can be very successful here.

Ten Hag is the more sexy appointment but Ajax are a very well structured club all the way through and his systems work for them. He won’t get that structure and support from upper management at this club and coming into a very different and difficult league up against four of the best managers in the world is a much bigger risk than going for a PL experienced Poch.

Mate, when you have no point to any of your posts, you really start to lose any credence or credibility.

If you think £400m is not a lot of money to spend at a club like Spurs considering where they were when Poch took over than fine, but considering the contexts that I have pointed out then it highlights, to me at least, how incorrect you are.

You may think differently but your point has been lost among snide comments which you appear to have used to disguise the fact that you don't really have anything of merit or interest to say, which again is fine, but I am not interested in people who cannot elequently explain their reasoning.

Each to their own, but leave me out of your petulance please, I'm above that thanks.
Laughing emojis, "you must be on United's Board', "thanks for proving my point". Too late to take the moral high ground.

Don't just think its about PSG he obviously wanted to come even when he was employed at Spurs too he was happy to answer questions about it to the point their press officer had to shut them down. And even when he was sacked it was constantly in the news too and that's when he should have been appointed in late 2019 when it was clear to all and sundry Ole was not working out, only for Bruno to come in and save his job while he moved on to PSG.

This would be the first exciting appointment we would make post Sir Alex though imo, he isn't a defensive coach for a start and his teams generally all systematically work hard on and off the ball.

Pretty sure he will be annunced. Can't see PSG much annoyed if they loose his services.

On an overall perspective, his work at PSG is bellow average: could not win the league despite Lille dropping tons of points, looses the supercup on a game that it wasn't even unbalanced.

Don't know if people had watched some PSG matches this season, but the football quality is clearly not top notch, the defensive routines are not impressive (they keep conceding too many goals and the attacking patterns are pretty much based on individual effort.

Can't say I'm impressed with his work at PSG.

In this picture you see a glaring problem with Pochettino: he's not bald! Nor is he wearing a baseball cap! Pep, Zidane, Ten Hag, Klopp and Tuchel are all either bald or wearing a baseball cap. There is a clear pattern here. And that pattern is male pattern baldness.

Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Ole have all had a full head of hair. Pochettino is doomed from the get go!
Better?

I share the same concerns, considering we also have an unbalanced squad. But he’s our best short-term bet and I just hope if he proves to be average at best, we tap up someone like ETH for the next season.

I’m coy about Poch. I feel Tenn Hagg has a clear philosophy and plan. I wouldn’t say Poch has one. At least it’s not visible at PSG because he’s forced to play certain players - but even at Spurs, I wouldn’t say his football had a particular style.

I’m very dubious.

Nothing says that he isn't good at handling superstars and not winning trophies isn't a weakness, it's the product of his tactics against better teams. He really isn't similar to Ole, he is a better manager in every way possible and he has limitations that are different to Ole's.

Not that I have followed PSG in detail, but didn't he have problems managing Messi? And the fact that he is willing to move from PSG (definitely in a better place in footballing terms to United) mid-season shows its not going too well surely..

I didn't get your point that not winning trophies isn't a weakness, when you say it's because of his tactics?

Also I didn't say he isn't a better manager than Ole, but that he has similar weaknesses which not be as pronounced as Ole and he definitely is a more establiched coach.

I'd take Poch, think he would be a great choice proven he can do it at the prem at two considerably weaker teams then our current set of players. Did it by playing some great entertaining football on the way and leagues above any coaching/managerial experience that Ole had.

Don't buy the he's not won anything crowd either, i don't think Klopp or Pep would of bettered a Champions league final with spurs or even won any other of the domestic trophies themselves, the fact he got there is an achievement in itself.

If Poch signs:

AWB is gone. Dalot might get a stake but will be replaced if he doesn't improve. Livramento in summer ?

Shaw - excellent relationship with Poch from Southampton days. I read that Shaw called Poch and cried over phone when he broke his leg.

Mostly plays 4231 with one of the 2 CMs quite good on the ball. Matic or Donny along with Fred or McT. (Rice will thrive in that setup)

Sancho will take the Son role. He will become a key player under Poch.

Bruno will be back to his best again. He wanted Bruno at Spurs.

Ronaldo isn't going to press like Poch wants. Cavani and Martial would just be brilliant in that setup. Will be interesting to see how Ronaldo is handled.

Maguire and Varane will start.

Pogba will leave. I don't think Poch has the tactical capability to play Pogba and Bruno in the same line up.

My 2 cents. I'm excited and hope to see a high pressing United side after LVG.

He subbed Messi in a game that they then went on to win and people made a big drama about it.

He's willing to move because he feels he's constantly being undermined and there's a lot of politics at play there. Plus I just think he really likes being in England.

As far as we know he doesn't have problems managing a player in particular. Wnning trophies is the result of something, it can't be a weakness or a strength.

I feel the same way.

We have players in positions that suit Poch, a CDM and RB will be what he needs to make us really competitive imo.

He admires Donny and wanted to sign Bruno, so I can see him trying to fit them in, I know it is possible because they are good players.

Of course it can be. Some managers are better at preparing their teams to win finals and perform on key stages like Fergie. This place has endless discussion on Ole failing to win trophies if you want some reference material. Poch had a good enough team under Spurs to win atleast a title and to add further insult to it, he failed to win the title with PSG.

Amongst footballing managerial 'Gods'
There were a lot of rumours.

“We all know what the reality of football is. There are moves between clubs, involving players and managers, so the rumours are always there.

“I’ve always maintained a calm, fluid relationship with the president and with [PSG sporting director] Leonardo.

“Things were always clear, there was no reason to say anything more.”
This is what Pochettino said with the spurs rumors last summer. Not sure where these current rumor are coming from that Pochettino is willing to leave psg in the middle of the season. I believe we are the one putting it out to because we are trying to get him as soon as possible to save our season. Or Pochettino might be using us to get more control at PSG.

Regardless, it will be admirable and remarkable that Pochettino will leave what he has going on at psg to join Manchester United. His results has been impressive and I even read somewhere that he is doing better than tuchel so far at his time at psg so far. And after seeing what tuchel is doing with Chelsea, it is no surprise that United are desperate to land Pochettino.

If Pochettino is to come mid season, I am pretty sure sir Alex Ferguson will be involved. He has already met Pochettino numerous times in the past and I am sure when all is said and done, Pochettino will reveal that he had a call from sir Alex that convinced him to move here. And to have such approval at United, will mean much more than what he has going on at psg. So, it will be understandable if he was to leave mid-season.

He knows how to organise a team and that's what we are severely lacking especially defensively. If he can organise our defense we'd be winning most games
