It's also interesting to know that Rangnick was the stand out interview candidate with his vision and what he intends to do.

Good appointment. Training sessions and team meetings are going to be a bit different!
This way he will also fulfill the part of knowing what we have in terms of players and staff by the time we hit the summer transfer window, rather than starting all over again in the summer and wasting a window for the coach to get to know the players. Way more continuity with this approach we took.

And most importantly is able to give this talented group of players a chance to win trophies this season. Him coming it means we are not wasting the season like we did with Ole in 18/19.
If he proves to be a fantastic figure like Tuchel, we can offer him a longer contract, if he just guides us to some normalcy, he'll still be able to help out our management team. It's a win/win. He's amiable, can speak the language and doesn't strike me as a divisive figure. He allowed Hassenhutll shine at Liepzig, so he won't be too much to handle for Murtough, Fletcher and the new manager

One thing I've noticed about John Murtough is that he isn't someone who wants to hog the lime light and wants what's best for the club. He's got a history of being someone that is well known around Europe for the work he's done in developing club structures on the football side. But he's also someone that has helped the likes of Wayne Rooney, Jack Rodwell, Marcus Rashford etc bridge the gap between the reserves and first team. I listen to a podcast from time to time, that has guests from within the football industry from players, managers to people working within recruitment departments across Europe, and they have all spoken highly of Murtough and his work which can be dated back almost two decades. There's a reason they call him 'the fixer'
I'm obviously speculating here, but I'd personally like to see Murtough head the further development of our data science department, because that's his speciality. And have Rangnick direct the football side with Darren Fletcher as assistant with a view to Fletcher eventually taking the job long term.
Exactly. I'm going to temper my expectations for this season for a few reasons;
1) It will take time to implement a new style of play effectively. Look at Klopp for instance. It's all depends on the players though so we could get some success early like Tuchel. Pep and Klopp both struggled to varying degrees though.
2) He will be using this time to assess the squad for long term development.
Having the consistency is huge for us though. Also he has unearthed some pretty good players from memory. January will be fun.

Even though we might not win the prem or the champions this year, this move can have huge implications(positive) in the next few years with how we start to play football and start closing the gap with the man city/liverpool/chelsea.
Shaw is not fantastic.
I think he’ll play a role under the new regime but he’s one of a number that should have to fight for their place. Some fan favourites will sink, some will swim.

They aren't going to give full details of the role out. Consultant covers all bases but given he rejected Chelsea as they were only offering him a short term role, and reports state he was keen to have a long term decision making role at United and this was key in him accepting, I'd say it's more likely he's being given an important role within operations then it's simply fluff.
Rangnick doesn't sound like he'd roll over like that. Ask Chelsea.

Doesn’t look like he wants to. He moves upstairs at the end of the year.
Ronaldo as a starter week in week out was never going to be sustainable, he is a GOAT but he is still human and now hopefully we have a manager who isn't scared to manage him correctly and limit his starts to one a week and impose more rests on him. Ronaldo is the kind of guy you need fit and firing for a must-win away to Villareal and tell him to stay home for the Young Boys match or something like that.

I don't think he wants the managerial job long term. Seems more interested in working behind the scenes to shape the foundations of a club.
I share your optmism and realism. I'm particularly excited for the future. As you said it can take time to teach and mold the team into something that fits this new style but the continuity offered is promising.

I'm still shocked this has happened. I was very much expecting us to go for a Valverde type appointment which I would have been happy with, but to bring in Ragnick AND offer him a footballing job upstairs after the interim period is crazy stuff. Really buzzing at this.

Don’t know much about him, but reading some of what people are saying, seems to be a good option. If he quickly stamps his authority with a few of the more difficult character’s, he should do well.
A bit off topic and I may have already asked you this but I'll ask it again to pique my curiosity - are you a United fan, or just a football fan? For some reason I always assumed you supported a French club but just had a vested interest in English football and/or United for some reason.
It's great really. Valverde would have been the one with the best CV for trophies but I'm actually glad we've looked beyond that as it shows this short term stuff has finally gone.
