Careful … Chelsea fans will be here in no time again reminding us of their incredibly harsh draws in the last 60+ years while at the same time reminding us that we drew Olympiacos and Sevilla in the last 16 (conveniently leaving out that we also drew RM and PSG).
But it's true, the first part at least

Some high profile teams in the EL this year. Good for the competition you would say. When was the last time Barcelona were in there?

Barcelona should try to win the EL; with Ansu and Pedri back from their injuries they are easily favorites to win it.
They are nowhere near favorite. West Ham can beat them easily. Also, all-time Europa great Sevilla will also be there. No chance for Barcelona.

Always funny to watch injured players make sure the camera has their "suffering" properly in sight.

That's that then. Can't say I ever expected us to qualify in a group with Bayern and Barça!

La Liga really needs a strong Barca though. I can’t see them getting back to there they were for years to come

Bayern didn't even play very well tonight, unsurprisingly due to injuries and quarantined players. Still can't quite believe how little Barca have to offer currently.

I’m going to light a candle and hope we get Lille!

We would be favorites for that one with a strong chance to make the quarter finals !

Eh. Seriously, depends on their finances. If they recover quick enough, they'll be back quicker than that. De Jong-Pedri+anyone has the potential to be an awesome midfield, Ansu Fati is amazing, if he can stay fit, Araujo looks like a top CB prospect, and they actually have a lot of talent coming up through the academy right now

But more seriously, i'd rather they go bankrupt and disappear

If I were a Madrid fan I’d totally agree to be fair.
I do think Barca plight is hiding behind youth and youth can blind you. There are many young players around Europe playing to a good level but very, very, very few will make a difference that they can compete v the elite sides. For Barca to have 4 or 5 of them as they lay mid table would be long odds against.
Fans tend to judge young players potential by their positive attributes rather than being even handed

Eh, Araujo, Pedri and one of Gavi/Nico would be enough and they look fairly likely tbf, already next season possibly or the one after. They badly need to invest in the attack atm. It's not that big a task if they have the money for, say, Halaand

Back in the good, good old days, Barcelona were fresh off signing Cesc Fabregas, giving minutes to highly rated Thiago, and thinking the future was settled.

These guys may make the difference, maybe not for Barcelona.

You don't think it's a little odd that after like a decade of not producing anyone particularly, Barcelona suddenly have a bunch of future star toddlers all of a similar age?

In the great Pep team there was quite a big age gap between the Xavis and the Busquets.

Araujo is 22. Pedri they signed. Those two look pretty much sure things. They need one of Gavi/Nico to come good. Not that far-fetched. With De Jong and Pedri they might not even need them to becomd that good either, just functional at the top level

Very true. And noone hypes their youngsters as delusionally as Barca (of course they are also the quickest to forget them once they've turned out to be nothing much).

But the point about positive attributes is an important one, there's a honeymoon period for youngsters of our clubs where we fans cherish everything good they do and forgive every weakness, and it's a beautiful thing, but to make it in an elite club they do have to withstand much higher scrutiny in the long run, and only the fewest actually make it

What Barca needs most is a good striker.
With Depay/Ansu/Dembele/Coutinho on the wings and de Jong/Pedri/Gavi behind them they could be great going forward.

2 goals scored and 9 conceded from Barca in 6 matches  they played in semi-final 2,5 years ago. Terrible decline but going to Europa League may be a better thing for this current Barcelona side.

I can't wait for Antonio to get his hands on Pique.

Some people on here were shitting on Messi for the past 2-3 years when he was basically their only spark
exactly, I haven’t seen a bigger drop off for any sporting team since a star player left since lebron left Cleveland in 2010

Lewandowski and few others I think have more goals than entire Barca team.

They literally removed all Messi's goals and replaced them with nothing.

Villarreal is going to be one of the weakest teams in the round of 16.

Feck Memphis Depay. Danjuma is the real Dutch star attacker.

Unlike Memphis he's also a nice and down to earth dude.
