Yeh I enjoyed it and I haven’t had a go at anyone for their opinion nearly expressing mine. I see you’ve conveniently ignored all my posts calling out CDPR for the state they released it in. I’ll happily hold my hands up and say I didn’t expect it to launch in a bad state. Why would I when they Witcher 3 was so brilliant? I mean I was hardly the only one (in fact part of the vast majority) that thought CDPR would deliver on their promises.

Despite all that all I’m arguing is that the game has many redeeming factors which elevate it as an RPG above many of its competitors that I’ve played over the last few years. That’s not me saying it as a fact, that’s me expressing my opinion and I wasn’t aware you had to place a disclaimer at the bottom of each post.
Nonsense! Everything you say is so matter of factly. Even the Ghost of Tushima thing above as if "how dare anyone think it's as good as Cyberpunk". Also there's your opinion and there's comments like saying most people think it's a really good game as if you know that for sure. How could you?

Although, I do find it hilarious that you think most people think Cyberpunk is a really good game and then decided to say it was definitely better than a game with a much higher user-score on Metacritic (9.1 vs 7.1)

Not sure if you can tell but I wasn’t the biggest GOT fan! I liked it for what it was, but Christ that was a world that lacked…well anything.
What does Cyberpunk's world have that GoT doesn't? Whether you like one game over the other I don't care really, that's your opinion which is fine, but the biggest criticism of Cyberpunk is that the world is incredibly shallow. It's basically this shell, or facade, in which a story happens to take place as opposed to a world that feels lived in. Conversely, GoT world has got a lot of praise.

I haven't played Cyberpunk personally as I got zero interest in it.

I haven't played Cyberpunk either (yet) and I actually really liked Ghost of Tsushima for what it was, but the bolded bit is definitely applicable to Tsushima's world as well. Its world is very stylized and oozes atmosphere, but it's extremely static and has pretty much nothing going on. It's not exactly Breath of the Wild's Hyrule.

Been playing a lot of Vanguard multiplayer the last few days. I had a break from COD so it feels more fresh coming back to it now. I'm enjoying it overall. The maps for the most part are good, although there are some stinkers on there. The biggest issue at the moment is that there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of balance going on. I'm either on a team that absolutely annihilates the opposition or vice versa. So as a result there aren't many tight and tense games going on.

Gun selection is...OK. There aren't many great ones so you end up using the same one or two over and over again. I'm still having some fun with it though.

Ghost didn’t have a great world, Jin wasn’t a great protagonist and the the foxes and birds were annoying as hell but it was beautiful, incredibly polished, had a fantastic combat system and some truly brilliant quests, especially the mystic quests. The duels were great too. For what it was I thought it was a much better game than Cyberpunk which was a half cooked mess. At least Sucker Punch delivered the game they wanted to.

Really? I haven't played GoT either because when it came out I was bored of open-world games and I just never bothered to buy it after that. I definitely will buy it at some point, but from what I've read about it the open world has been highly praised. Granted, a lot of that praise was how gorgeous it was, I guess.

Yes, really. It's a stunning backdrop, but that's all it is. You never interact with the world in any meaningful way. It's also behind something like RDR2 where you also don't really interact with the world, but which is a way more convincing simulation of a living and breathing natural environment.

To be honest the only person coming over as if they have an issue I’d you. I’ve quantified my opinions based on my reasons and certainly haven’t made out that Cyberpunk is without fault. What I haven’t done is wasted time trawling over historic posts to pretend there’s some deeper mystery here. Yes I think Cyberpunk is better than GOT, pretty comfortably at that. Not really sure why you care?

That's a shame. That's the thing that turned me off from open-world games (i blame Ubisoft) and stopped me from getting GoT. They were all becoming so boring and shallow. I much prefer the smaller, linear-type games now. 15 hours or so, not too much fat on the bone, and you're done.

Although saying that, the two best games I played this year were Returnal and Hades. And they aren't short games!

Nice attempt at deflecting. I think you just need to chill when it comes to Cyberpunk. People are allowed not like it.

Honestly in my opinion that’s nonsense. Cyberpunks world is brilliant. I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best video game cities I’ve played in. Good verticality, massive scale, great diversity in terms of its areas and regions and the unique gang presence in each, helps to really built a great sense of identity. The lore in Cyberpunk is easily it’s strongest element. It’s that lore that has inspired numerous games, books and movies before it and it’s just a really interesting one to discover. CDPR deserve a lot of praise for the way they have intertwined that lore into the world. A dead body next to a letter, that leads you down a blood spilled path, into a building etc. Reminds me a lot of a TES game like Skyrim in that they give you so many little pockets of lore that you can use for role playing. I know many people don’t care for that stuff or miss it out entirely but I think it’s the reason Fallout and Skyrim are so great and I don’t think that many companies have understood that level of exploration/world building.

In comparison GoT is beautiful but bland. Once you’ve seen one sprawling, flowery hillside, you’ve seen them all. It’s stunning, but shallow. The best feature of that game is it’s combat which really is brilliant. Everything else, world, lore, character, story, all feel abit flat which is why I put it down after about 30 hours and I’ve struggled to pick it back up. In comparison, Cyberpunk had me so gripped I finished an 80 hour playthrough and my first thought was “when can I play again”. Look if my posts come over to overly defensive then that’s probably because I think they built a pretty decent game. To me it’s just a shame they didn’t give it more time to develop and sort all the bugs etc.

I actually agree with most of that. They certainly delivered on what they wanted too. What I would say though is that while Cyverpunk didn’t deliver anywhere near on expectations, what they did deliver had so much more depth than a game like GoT and that’s the crux for me and why I enjoyed it so much more.

Since you like digging through posts. Find the one in which I’ve said you can’t?

It’s a forum if someone says they don’t like something, I’m entitled to come in and say why I think they are incorrect or what I disagree with.

Sounds like a classic case of open-world fatigue, something I know all too well myself. GoT is not the worst offender in that regard but still suffers due to open-world staples. If you're going for full map completion, it becomes a chore.

Still worth it just for the excellent combat though, sword duels have never looked and played so great as in this game.

Ok, fair enough. I'm probably too jaded by open-world games at this point to be particularly excited about either of them. I will say, just speaking purely about aesthetics, Cyberpunk interests me more because I love that aesthetic. That's why I was a little disappointed that they absolutely bungled the launch, because that Blade Runner-esque, mega-metropolis is right up my alley.

In terms of not having enough development time, they should have just released on PC and next-gen consoles only. People would have been pissed, but not as pissed as they were when they saw the game for the first time on older consoles. Instead, CDPR lied out of their arses and mislead everyone.

On another note I'd say both have some horrendous AI but it's more noticeable on GoT. I always remember freeing a bunch of caged slaves as Jin and they just ran out of the Mongolian camp in plain sight, straight past the guards. My immersion :( CyberPunk did have some interesting ways of doing the same mission: little ways to cut corners, use different skills, entry points etc which i appreciated.

Sometimes I can't believe how AI stays so stagnant in these games. The guards in MGS2 were better than most games and that was twenty years ago. It probably sounds like nitpicking but i do wish games could do more with this and GoT for some reason really stood out for me as an example.

Yep that second approach would have been sensible. They also should have given all versions another 1/2 years to not only fix the bugs but also add back in some of the cut content. There’s so much more they could have done with the AI, police, driving etc. Clearly CDPR massively bodged it, it’s a credit to thier incredible writing team and some of their designers that they even managed to produce a good game despite it all. Anyway my advice to al ny friends is the same. But it down the road when they release DLC, next gen patches and all the bug fixes. I suspect if you like the Cyverpunk lore you’ll really enjoy it at that point.

You get so defensive about Cyberpunk every time someone criticizes it. We get it, you like it, most don't.
If by most you mean numerical majority as a determination.

Steam :

Recent reviews: Mostly Positive (12,896)
All reviews: Mostly Positive (422, 429)

Unless they're all bots, I do believe Cyberpunk has improved sufficiently to garner the above improvement. It's not perfect by any means, but the above is not insignificant by any means.

As someone who knows sod all about development I imagine AI is seen as a very difficult and very expensive thing to get right so it just gets put secondary on the list. Personally, it doesn’t bother me a huge amount in comparison to the gameplay and story, but I’d love to see a smaller open world go all out to improve AI as a way to incorporating it into the gameplay.

I know it’s not AI per se but I really think the Nemesis system in the Lord of the Rings games is absolutely brilliant and hugely personal to the gamer. Ive never really understood why other games haven’t taken that idea and made their own implementation. I love the idea of maiming some dude in Skyrim only for him to come back 5 hours later and try and seek his revenge.

I was referring to the Caf where reception has been poor/mixed.

but mostly positive is actually quite average by steam standards. Good games generally get very positive scores. It also has 7.1 on metacritic which is pretty crap. By all accounts user reviews are average at best by AAA game standards

Can't believe you are even having to argue this point play Witcher 3 and all the DLC, Play cyberpunk (i played the pc version the best one) then come back and tell me that the latter is even close or point me to the great parts they took from witcher 3 and expanded on them in Cyberpunk (Hint, you wont find any) cos its complete trash and they were far too arrogant and believed they could just produce anything and people would suck it up.

Nout wrong with liking crap stuff plenty of people listen to Travis Scott, Space Raiders and Roysters Crisp are straight trash but they are fantastic,

But that’s not true. Most people like it but pick it for its technical faults which is fair. Pretending people shouldn’t play it at all though is disingenuous, they do some things very very well.
Nah the bugs were amusing. The shit gameplay and shallowness of the systems is why its deeply, deeply average. It had a good story and acting, everything else was utterly mediocre.

Warner Bros patented the system unfortunately so anything that would resemble it would be in trouble, probably. It was a really shitty move by them to do that

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.
Witcher 3 launched as a mess too, and some of the systems are still so broken even modders can't fix them (like the levelling system) to this day.

So let's not pretend it's just bugs what's holding CP back. It has major flaws with every aspect, including the city. As I said on release day, and will 100% be proven right, they will never turn it into the game they planned, promised and then hyped. Nobody could turn that around. It's been developed and designed from the ground up in completely the wrong way, that much is evident.

I'm just hoping any DLC at least does something with the gunplay/hacking. Then I'll enjoy it enough. Also, I'm seriously tempted to try it in VR too as I think that will actually make it decent

Final boss of Kena is down and I've done everything there is to do. That was a lovely game only let down by some brutally uneven balancing. For a debut game by that studio, it's excellent. I'll have to keep an eye on their next project.

Pretty much how I felt. Some of the difficulty spikes on bosses was mental, but it was lovely overall and I thought the rot were great.

Picked Kena up and not sure on it yet, probably an hour in but seems very repetitive as in send those little dude to the red thing then hit it with that shockwave thing.

Well, if you haven't played Metal Gear Solid V that game gives you a great amount of freedom to tackle enemies the way you want. It takes a little bit of time for you to get into the open-world area, but once you do it's an incredible game. The gameplay is excellent.

Then you have Horizon: Zero Dawn which is a PlayStation exclusive (well, it's on PC now as well, but console exclusive then) which is a fun world to traverse. Looks great, too.

That's two games I would pick if you haven't already played them.
Death Stranding.
Witcher and RDR2 are musts.

Witcher is a steal at £6.99 on the store for the GOTY edition and hours and hours of fun.

I ended up quite enjoying assassin's creed Valhalla and that has a ps5 update for extra sexyness. It took me a while to get into as I hated the combat at first. It does drag on a bit but it's definitely value for money, the hours you can get out of it is great.

I'm trying to hold out for a Witcher 3 upgrade for ps5 but I am itching for another playthrough myself.
There’s a PS5 update for the Witcher 3 coming out in 2022, so perhaps hold off on that one if you’d prefer the updated version.
Thanks all. Decided to go for The Witcher 3, since it was dirt cheap. What a game! I had completely forgotten how immersive these RPGs can be. Even the little card game is quite enjoyable.

I really need to try this again, started it twice and didn’t see it past the Griffon. Even without the PS5 update, it looks great on PS5.

Decent! Hmmm
I reckon still wait if you can. I don’t have a clue what the next gen version will bring but the Witcher is massive so it’s unlikely you’ll play through it more than once any time soon. Play it in its best state!

Aaah not sure if I should wait now or not.
I haven't read up on it all, so I have no idea how the versions will compare. But I have enjoyed it massively so far. It looks great, the load times are at a minimum and obviously the world and the game itself is awesome. Also, I got it for the equivalent of £10 or so (not sure if this offer still holds, but I bought less than a week ago). This includes both expansions, by the way.

I only have two very minor gripes. First, the game has crashed 2-3 times, which isn't really a big deal, since it autosaves all the time. Second, the horse really is a bitch to handle sometimes . Not sure any of this will be different in the updated version.

Not far off

I’ve always realised that it’s a huge game and each time I’ve fired it up, life seems to get in the way. Just one of those games I can’t get going with.
That happens, of course. The hours I can put in will also drop off massively once normal life starts again on Monday. It definitely is a massive game to start, and there is simply so much to do besides the main story. I'd even go so far as to say that the secondary story lines and one-off contracts are more interesting than the main story, so if you want to do everything it takes forever.
