Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

If true, Ukraine's population is absolutely going all in to defend their country.

I bet around 99% tweets regarding battles from either side range from blatant fake news to half truths.

Which begs the question why are we following them ? Some of the videos of aircrafts firing, tanks blown up etc are old videos.

There's a couple of twitter accounts that generally get it right and don't show old videos. Some reddit subs are also good at recognizing old videos. Not all the time, but in general.

Countries true colours are certainly coming out during this.
Indeed your countries true colours were shown when churchill starved millions of Indians to death. And in case you come up with a half arsed defense that that was ages ago let me inform you that in the 70's you lot sent in your navy into Indian waters to bomb us in hope of helping pakistan who was at the time genociding bangladeshis. So spare me your "true colours" bollocks.

I saw one yesterday where it was artillery fire shooting into the night sky to attack war planes above.

The war planes were WW2 models and it was from a fecking Call of Duty video game.

You say that like you assume I’m proud of that history.

What have you done about it then ?

Why don't you pressure your govt right now to cut ties with the saudis who are murdering civilians in yemen right now with the military hardware given by your govt ?

I know that Germany got much shit for blocking Swift, but Baerbock (new foreign minister) and other german politicians said that banning Russia from Swift would hurt the normal people more than the banks and government.

No Russian citizen could use their credit cards anymore or make bank transfers.
And the banks could also use other systems and the current sanctions would already be harsher to them than banning them from Swift.

Is this discussion also present in other countries?

I really don't know what to make of it. After how long German officials defended North Stream 2 I think it's unfortunately possible that our own interests (stopping the rise of energy prices; 50blns that our banks gave to Russian companies that would be lost) are the main reason to block the Swift ban.

Can somebody with the knowledge and an objective view help me understand?

Almost all collective sanctions will hurt normal people to some extent.

Regarding the hesitation, it was related to other fears as well. Including the risk that CIPS the Chinese system rivaling SWIFT stand to benefit from these sanctions. These articles answer a few questions.

Of course. Hating Russia, even without Putin, comes naturally for the Western countries.
Not every country can afford the luxury, unfortunately. They can't afford to destroy their economy trying to pick sides in a war that they are not directly impacted by.

Which is why every country does trade in billions of $ with the Saudis. It doesn't matter what they do to their people or people not serving their interests. Every big country looks the other way.

Anyways, that is nothing new in world politics.

I don't think most people would be proud of that now, and would rightly condemn it. That doesn't have any bearing on India's decision to abstain though which will be based on trade at the expense of lives.

Wrong thread. We get it, any big country nowadays will have blood on their hands to have got to where they are but this is Ukraine invasion specific.

Apart from trolls both the countries are also putting out information in order to demoralize the other, its information warfare.

Follow the right accounts and you only get the stuff that is either verified, geolocated or posted by somebody who has a reputation for posting authentic footage.

China abstains cause just putting sanctions does not solve the issue, but the situation should be solved by negotiation.

China supports Ukraine's territorial integrity.

China mentions that NATO's extension is one of the causes of the problem, and the security of a country/group should not come at lowering the security of some other country.

India's neigbhours are china and pakistan, both have nukes and both have territorial claims over Indian territory and both have previously fought wars over it against India.

Russia has helped India previously while at times the west has acted against us. Russia continues to supply us with military hardware without which we'd be nowhere in the short term if china and pakistan decide to take advantage.

As i see it the west too has to share the blame for this useless and needless war. What was the need for nato to stoke the flames and try to get ukraine into the fold when everyone knows it would antagonize the russians ? Of course every soverign country should have a right to do whatever it wants but we dont live in an ideal world. If china placed nukes in sri lanka India would be antagonized and if India placed nukes in taiwan/vietnam then china would be mobilizing its military and so would the west if putin decided to place nukes in mexico/cuba etc.

This was a needless war stoked by old men in suits trying to feck with each other. No side is blameless here.
