United: Vitek, Ogunneye, Bennett, Jackson, Murray, Gore, Mainoo, Forson, Hugill, Garnacho, Norkett

Subs: Wooster, Nolan, Curley, Williams og Berry

Blackburn: Dowling, Montgomery, Pratt, Gamble, Haddow, O´Grady, Weston, Duru, Caddick, Biniek, Nsangou

Just taken the lead after 9 minutes by Ogunneye - following the one of the biggest goalkeeping errors I have seen in a long time. A really awful cross too close to the goalkeeper who collects the ball - and then drops the ball to the ground and into the roof of the net :)

Loving watching Mainoo play. It's so easy for him.

edit: Blackburn equalise.
edit2: Garnacho almost restores the lead immediately after a great run, but the Blackburn keeper makes a good save.

1-1 after 17 minutes - some brilliant play down the left by a Blackburn-player and the ball is tucked in at the far post

Incredible that we are not in front - despite his big error, the Blackburn-goalie with 4 good saves so far.

Fella is channeling Brad Friedel for sure.

Gore has been really impressive this match - again. Becoming a big fan of his. The position he plays, and how he plays the game, make him alovely player to watch.

Nothing happened in the last 20 minutes - still 1-1 with 3 minutes left before the break.

Looking at the table, our position doesn't look so good, has our academy also fell behind pool and city?
Shame:(
Behind City, yeah. We came back from 4-1 down to draw 5-5 with Liverpool so very little between them in terms of actual quality. We’re also in the FA youth cup final which is one of the biggest indicators of how good an academy side is.

That's great to hear!Though the last generation that won it didn't end up so good ( was it the pogba , Lingard one right?)
Also I'm not very well informed on the academy intricacies, but why is the league not as a strong indicator as the fa cup?

Thanks!

No, I honestly don't think so. I wouldn't read too much into the table tbh. Our youth teams are still among the very best in the country.

Hopefully your right, it would be so shit if even our youth department had gone to shit.
Hopefully some of these talents find their way to the manin theme.

3 England internationals, a French international and a number of Championship players is a great output for an age group.

Vitek decides to try if he can do worse than the Blackburn goalie - and he can. 1-2

In fairness - we don't deserve much better. We have created very little after a good first 15 minutes

I'd rather have Gore and Mainoo in midfield on Thursday than any of our senior players ffs

When I first saw Gore I couldn't quite see it - but he has really taken huge steps

3 England internationals - M. Keane, Lingard, Johnstone
1 French international - Pogba (+ World Cup Winner)
1 Jamaican international - Morrison
1 Irish international - W. Keane
1 Welsh international - Lawrence (on bench)
1 Norwegian international - Daehli (part of squad that season)

So 8 internationals from that group is quite something...not sure what people expect?

I think given the talent Morrison and Pogba had we should have made them much better players than they became. Sometimes I wonder if we actually coached players at all.

You can't coach attitude unless it serious one-to-one stuff. Once he went to Raiola that ship had sailed. He probably needed a mentor of some sort at the club.

Morrison not making it was never a coaching issue...the boy was/is emotionally damaged.

Dead serious. I think our coaching is poor. Seems to be a trademark of our academy that players are tactically unaware more so than all other major English academies. We put way too much emphasis on individual skill and flare, it’s a tiny component of what makes a top player.

You could argue perhaps that that is a failing of our U23s but not the academy. End of the day Pogba left at 19 because he didn't like what the reserve coaches were telling him. Juventus pandered to him and he showed his talent, but like Gerrard before him, he never became the great CM he could have because he wasn't interested in being tactically disciplined and he didn't stick with the right manager(s) to instil it in him. Closer to it though to my mind - won some big trophies in his time and he's not retired yet. Those performances in his World Cup win were more or less the only time in his career he put in a string of tactically disciplined performances in a row and showed what his top level was IMO.

That's pretty good for an academy!
