Is he the same fellow who blew it vs Novak last year?
Yeah the same one. It was quite similar to that match last year to be honest in that despite him winning the first two sets it was inevitable early on in the third set that he would go on to lose the match. Not sure if it's him running out of gas or a mentality issue but he didn't show anything in any of these matches sets 3, 4 or 5

Hard to see anyone beating Iga. I think Badosa has the best chance, she's very good on the clay.
Ostapenko is 3:0 vs. Iga. Think Iga can face Halep early too.

Grand Slams are always different. Alcaraz struggling vs. Ramos too.

Alcaraz trailing 2-1 to Ramos Vinolas..
Won't be suprirsed if he does lose. Spanards are tough opponents on clay and I think he's also under a lot of pressure given he's a bigger favorite than Rafa this time. I think Djoko will get through this half to make the final.

In another comeback though, Zverev came from 2 sets down to win. He was also a break down in the fifth and saved a MP. Same old Zverev at a Slam with him wasting unnecessary energy and getting into pointless 5 setters early in the Slam.

Ramos-Vionlas now serving for the match vs Carlos. I think people went way too overboard with some of the Carlos hype and winning Slams at this age is incredibly tough. Djoko and Rafa were outliers. Carlos may still win today but I think he needs less pressure on him.

I agree, I had him as third favorite but seemed a lot to ask from a guy that has never played the main draw at RG. Still a big future but think some got carried away.

That said, saved a couple of match points and breaks back to 5-5...

He'll win this match now but Vinolas really should have seen it through. Carlos also doing a Rafa and playing passive tennis till he's in trouble

This 6-5 game has been incredible. Huge hold from Ramos-Vinolas. Let's see if he can see this out as you feel he has to do this in 4 sets rather than 5.

So many on the men’s side coming back from 2 sets down with Tsitsipas, Zverev and Schwartzman.

Carlos running away with the tie break. It'll be an easy fifth set now.

Some point to break from Alcaraz. Credit to Ramos he really put up a fight even if Alcaraz had some dodgy moments. Really feels like any of the next Gen would have folded here in this match. Looks business this guy.

Zverev goes 5 for no good reason in the first week of a Slam. We back, baby.

I am not sure Alcaraz would see the funny side of the circus surrounding him right now, yet he will surely appreciate it at a later stage, hopefully with one slam or two under his belt and the Duracell Bunny meme passed onto the next freak boy/girl entering the circuit.

Edit: Musetti is a very talented 20yo, still extremely boyish.

Rumours that Enqvist asked him to do a basic drill and he screamed “You can’t tell me what to do. You’re not my real dad” at him.

The hour on court Tsitsipas just saved himself by turning around that tie break could be huge later in the tournament.

Rough for her. I've thought for a bit that she'll probably retire soon. From memory she's recently married and seems to be struggling to get back to what she was.

Of the many impressive things about Alcaraz, maybe the most is the fact that at 18, he’s clearly trying things he doesn’t need to and developing an all round, nuanced game and not just relying on that brute of a forehand.

I'd still expect Alcaraz to win but I think Khachanov will be a good test for him, to see where his level is at. Khachanov's ceiling feels limited as he's not pushed on since he broke through but he still has the potential to cause damage if you're not up to it or he serves well.

Just had a look at Zverev's draw to the QF and it's as soft as one could hope for.

Djoko crushing Diego Schwartzman right now. Easy win. Nice win for Leylah Fernandez too, the us open finalist. Love watching her scrap for every point, the little trooper. Nadal vs FAA tonight should be fun

Terrible opening set for Rafa so far. Missing a lot of shots and gone 5-1 down.

FAA has been fine but this is more on Nadal's level than FAA playing really well.

Rafa properly back to the low on confidence, bottling the big moments self this last month or so. At this point, he's probably doing himself a favor if he loses because if he plays this level vs Novak, it'll be brutal.

May do enough to win this match but still just too much inconsistency in his form and needs to be better on BPs.

Going into a fifth set only the third time at RG here, Rafa. He's been awful.

He's not been awful at all. This is tennis of the highest level. Faa's first serve has been clutch. This is not the best Nadal but he's still very much goat level.

Djoko gearing up for his record breaker. A different player in grand slams.

Good match but the most predictable QF ever? After the draw was made you could have bet your life savings on Djoko-Nadal to be there.

So many break points missed by him today. I think it has to be some kind of record for him.
He's become very wasteful in recent years. Might just be a record at the French Open for him though. It was good for Rafa to be tested before the Novak match but I don't think he's got much of a chance given the way the latter has been playing since Madrid.

Novak has not been playing with conviction so far himself if you have watched him this RG. I think the match is perfectly balanced and I would even favor Nadal after today’s game as he’s definitely feeling it even if he has his downs now too. Anyway, I still see Carlitos running away with it this year.
