This all sounds rather positive, suddenly.

I still think we'd need a CB, RB and new GK if we are to build the play from the back in the way ten Hag likes, but this would be a huge piece of the puzzle filled (IF it happens!)

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
It's a bit arrogant from Manchester United to brief Laurie Whitwell (of all people!) they think they have got De Jong in the bag. And the player wants to come. Let's see if Barcelona or De Jong give United the slap down. Because all United fans on Twitter and social media are going crazy and celebrating now think we are signing De Jong now.. Barcelona or De Jong will be asked about this surely as it's a massive update.

We will know very quickly if this is doable. But it'll be embarrassing if United spend all summer on this deal and don't sign him. Because they have briefed Laurie Whitwell they are focused on De Jong they better get it over the line otherwise the anger fron the fans WILL overspill. After coming off our worst Premier League season ever and other teams have already signed players.. the fanbase are desperate for some positivity.. a signing ANY signing even a right-back or Eriksen

United better get this done now. Or they risk a toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford from the first match.
Why have United briefed him? Why not player circle, agent, even Barca?

Did United brief you too, about their briefing?

I find it annoying. Its every common with the kids now in sports forums in the States. I find it fecking annoying -- its takes me more time trying to figure out who the feck that initials stand for than just to type the fecking surname out.
Indeed. Kids these days are so lazy to type names properly. Back in my days I called my mate John with simply John even when there were two other Johns around. At least I didn't give them stupid nicknames!

FDJ might be amazing, im not commenting on his ability at all. I am just worried we will sign him + a winger + maybe a CB and think we're good
To be honest we are club that works on a budget. One transfer window would never have solved all our issues.

Midfield is definitely a priority this window and we are getting the best possible player for that.

The fact that Ten Hag knows his best position isn’t that of a DM makes me think we must be signing another midfielder as well. Then I’ll really get excited.

No. His best position isn't DM because that's where SMT and FRPS play.

Seems like ETH has managed to convince him to come if the recent reports are true.

I’ve hardly been invested in this whole saga due to the various reports beforehand that he wasn’t keen to join us due to no CL next season and it was more Barcelona trying to attract interest in him from various clubs so they could start a bidding war.

Now, I’ve been literally refreshing this thread all the time

comfortable and settled in my rut
Vaart's first season at Spurs was great wasn't it? He just did a typical Vd Vaart afterwards and lost focus. As he always did.

17 year old Van der Vaart is still the most talented youngster I've ever seen. If only he had Kuyt's work ethic.
from memory he only had one season at Spurs didn’t he? Then went back to Germany

Looking good that this might actually happen. While it was unlikely to happen if Barca weren’t a financial mess, it would still be a pretty incredible coup by Murtough and ten Hag.

There's not a cat in hells chance he'd even consider us but for Erik you'd imagine. Highly doubt had we opted for Poch he'd have been willing to come to us this summer with no CL football.

Having players that want to play for our new manager is definitely a huge plus. Let's hope they get it signed sealed and delivered.

I still think we need a nasty no nonsense DM though.

Tends to be the way it goes, isn’t it? The technically elite players that young tend to think they can coast by and very rarely apply themselves with the work rate needed to match that.

Also, aside, why did he end up at Hamburg after Ajax? Seems random as hell, they were very much a midtable side?

There were two Olivias in my daughter’s form. The bossier of the two decreed that from henceforth the other was to be known as Olive, to avoid confusion

All this positive talk of this transfer has got me listening to this song over and over. Different spellings, but whatever.

"Well the ace in the hole, is I've got a friend called Frenkie."

Its amazing that a United fan is slagging off and calling the club arrogant. I understand fans of other clubs but the constant slagging off of our club is just ridiculous. And the natural instinct to think that the Club was in the wrong in most situations or scenarios is just mind-boggling.

Why even support the club is they are always in the wrong? Its a great club.

There is so much projection and re-direction going on nowadays.

Weren't they just below the top back then? Think they had a pretty ok squad. Still, I suppose the winner of the golden boy award can usually aim higher. Maybe it's because his then wife was sort of famous as a presenter in Germany?

Current Dutch internationals:

Denzel, Memphis, Davy, Wout, Daley, Jasper, Jurrien, Virgil, Noa, Teun, Cody.

Frenkie is positively bland by comparison.

Can’t believe we might be getting DeJong, if he can recapture his Ajax form will be a joy to watch.

every single one of those is better than “Frenkie”. “Frenkie” just sounds like a pet or something. No sauce.

On the other hand, “Shaqueel Van Persie” passes the swag test with flying colours  a true footballer’s name. If he becomes half as good as his dad - we’re going to need a bit of that
