He’s not going to say anything - we haven’t agreed a fee. He may stay at Barca.
I don’t think that comment makes sense for a player who knows he’s leaving to be honest. He still looks desperate to stay.

Can feel the fanbase grow in frustration day-by-day and with every signing made by another top 6 side.

To be fair, its still early days. But things will be pretty sour already if De Jong isn't in the bag a week - 10 days from now. Especially as it seems obvious that we won't sign anyone else until this one is done.

If those quotes are accurate, I don't want.

It's the same shit again with us. Di Maria was pushed out the door by Madrid against his will. Look how well that turned out for us.
We need to be on the lookout for better versions of Fred, players who are clamouring to sign for United and who'll run through brick walls for us every game.
No more entitled pricks please.

Actually kind of agree with this.

If you take out the biggest club bit it’s a very generic no comment…”I’m flattered by the interest but I’m fine where I am and there’s no news”
But he said the biggest club in the world part so why are we excluding it?

He wants to stay and he’s making it more clear with that line.

We're just going to have to accept that if we have another shit season(s), players like this will be the first to throw their toys out the pram....but ETH wants him so we are going to have to hope for the best

Either shit or get off the pot Murtough. New manager, same old penny pinching shite.

Ten Hag is not going to change anything if we can't even efficiently sign a player being pushed out of a club on the verge of bankruptcy.

Shades of the Moyes and Woodward braintrust first window.

Or he's been media trained not to say jack shit.
if you were training somebody to say Jack shit if they were possibly moving would you tell them to say they are currently at the best club in the world?

Year upon year of transfer windows and people still pay attention to what highly media trained players or managers say in public...sigh.

Wait, what exactly was he supposed to say? I hope most of you aren't like this in your day to day lives. Cry babies who overreact to everything and analyse without context or see the semantics of the situation.

It's possible that DeJong has been told that the deal might not be happening. Interesting he says this a few hours after Ornstein says we're looking at Eriksen as a possible alternative to DeJong. Wouldn't be surprised if this cools off now. Let's see. Great player but not our player. He may never be.

Neves is looking mighty fine right now

It looks like the cafe is about to repeat its bad takes re: Mane and Salah, judging by some of the responses I’ve received regarding Neves and Tielemans. I find it very odd how adverse many are to plucking players from mid table teams that may be in a position to take the next step at a bigger club. I mean it’s the profile of player that we may have to focus on when we have nothing to offer in the short term other than hope.

Ya feck him, move on to someone who actually wants to come. Enough with the love letters, let him warm their bench and increase their debt.

Good that he made it clear now and put a full stop. Let him enjoy at the world’s biggest debt club and warm their bench.

Ornstein has apparently removed parts of the tweet saying it’s an alternative deal to de Jong.

Or he's been media trained not to say jack shit.
What he meant was clear, like "I'm aware of the interest, its nice to be wanted but I'm at my dream club and don't fancy leaving except something happens".
Given what Xavi and Laporta has said to the media, he sounds very clingy, you would thing a player would feel a bit underappreciated he is being earmarked for a sale among his teammates and take a tougher stance.

What universe are you living in where you think Neves would be cheap or even remotely in the same league as De Jong? He'll cost a fortune, and isn't anywhere near as good.

He clearly hasn't given a 'media trained' non response like some are claiming here, it is very obvious that he wants to stay at Barca.

A media trained type response would have been something like "I'm focusing on the internationals and then will go on my holidays, I'm not thinking about next season"

What do people actually think he is going to say in that situation?

fecking pathetic reaction to the most generic none quote you’ll see
It would’ve been a non quote had he not said he’s at the biggest club in the world. That part is pretty far from an non quote.

Pretty much this. But in this analogy the someone else is bankrupt and living in a shed stinking of poo. But they still want them.

Doesn't that tell you something about the state of the club?

This framing is pretty far off. First of, he's at a club where they don't not want him, but need to cash in. He's in a beautiful city, with great weather, playing for the club he idolised as a kid. So even if he's being pushed out, it's tough to swallow. Secondly, we'll need to do more than pay him what he wants as he, and every other top player, will be aware of how shite we've been over the years reaching a nadir this season. They'll need to know that there'll be further strengthening done on the team immediately. Thirdly, even though pre-season is nearly upon us, we've obviously had the sideshow of the Nations League, I'd assume that things will speed up rapidly from now on. Haggling over money is worth it, if we're doing it right. So far, there is nothing to suggest we're still in Woodward/Judge territory. Frenkie is the first domino before we can evaluate what we can do in other positions, he'll also be the most expensive signing and we'd be wise not to flaunt money prior to concluding the deal with Barca.

The only thing I would genuinely say has been a disappointment is not getting players out fast enough - I hope we're working on that.
