A Maxence Caqueret from Lyon and Ibrahim Sangare midfield duo looks a better fit for us and he plays at the base of midfield. I'm surprised not a mention of him here. When you factor in purchase price and Salary, we will get hosed with De-Jong. FDJ is very much like a Jadon Sancho deal where the player is good but there's much better value on the mkt

De Jong would cost us 80m + salary. Considering that he's on a 350k a week that would be at least 19m a year. Thus if he signs a 5 year contract that would spiral to an eye watering 175m deal, which is already a huge sum of money for a happy player let alone one whose being forced to join us.

I agree with you in principal and in normal circumstances I'd say that United should take the plunge and go for it. Having said that we're in a surreal situation were the budget is tight and we need at least 4 players. ETH must consider alternatives and luckily for us there are decent options available on the cheap such a Fabian Ruiz, Tielemans and Soler. I have no doubts that ETH can understand that. He's a manager who is used to work with DOFs. My only problem is whether we've got the quality personnel needed to come up with alternatives that can give the manager food for thought.
Totally understand that point too. However those wages would have just been given to Pogba and Cavani anyway. So not much financial difference plus CR7 leaves next season (Even though he pays for himself).

The remaining budget can still facilitate those lower financial deals. We still need a certain level of quality and if he can get it now it saves us having to spend for it later.

Then just pay the fee. At least try to negotiate that. This whole thread is a bunch of people speculating that barca is the one without leverage but really, you guys need him and there's no replacement. Look at Arsenal and Tottenham right now, they're way ahead of you guys but yet you think you have time? The more you wait the further the separation gets from Arsenal and Tottenham.

Worst comes to worst, Frenkie would have to lower his salary if he was to stay. I think in the end you guys will pay or at least come to an agreement but it's pretty funny watching you guys trip over his price when he'd instantly be your best player. Instantly, while the ink is still wet and he's still wearing church shoes.
No United shouldn't bend over for any player or club. If United don't see the value in it, they should come up with a figure they are prepared to pay. If that doesn't meet Barcelona expectations, then move on. It's quite simple.

United should now offer a take it or leave it deal to Barcelona and make it very clear that this is the final offer and their will be no negotiation. We cannot afford for this saga to run on and on. We need a resolution one way or another and if it goes against us, then we move on to other targets. We need 4/5 players in for the first team THIS summer and although it wont solve everything, it would certainly push us on (hopefully).

We go back to training in 2 weeks (I know some (non international players) come back a week earlier) and then we move onto the tour a week later, so we need to get a couple in for that IMO.
Because you can’t take it anymore?

In context of other posts, Iread it as a fatalistic ‘United always feck up big signings’ type proclamation. You didn’t mean it like that?
No see the post I replied to. United always drag out big transfers. Typical of United signings implies United actually sign the player no?

You guys are too caught up in how you look to others rather than what needs to be done for your team. You don't even have a system yet and it's clear that ETH wants this player but rather than back him, you want to 'not look weak' or whatever.

If you can't back a top manager with and actual system then you guys need to be willing to accept that top 4 just won't happen. You're not just paying for De Jong, you're paying for a player that makes Bruno and your attackers far more dangerous.

Whoever move onto will be significantly worse and you saw what having a mediocre midfield looks like against elite teams last year.

Maybe so. I guess we'll need to fix a deadline and stick to it. But alternatives need to be either hugely promising or top class, can't be half-arsing it with overpriced players who aren't really good enough (Neves, Vitinha, etc.).

How is it irrelevant?

You clearly don't realise just how bad Barcelona's finances are. They won't be at the top of world football for a long time.

Good luck keeping Pedri and Gavi when other clubs offer to double their wages
Gavi just got signed up until 2028, Pedri up until 2026. You literally have zero clue what you are talking about. It's astonishing.

They're not borrowing 700M ffs, they're selling 25% of TV rights with a buy back clause. actually do research into the topic instead of spouting mindless nonsense.

Yes, but even that was weird because then it seemed that the manager didn’t want to play him at all
2 seasons ago.
And what a two seasons it’s been
I stand corrected. However, you can't use the benefit of hindsight when answering the original question. At that time, his transfer was smooth and according to reports, wanted by Ole. The problem is, Ole didn't know what he wanted and he ended up getting a player that we already had a better option for in that position who was on great form.
