Hopeful that we get this over the finish line. I think having him here would also attract others to the project. Wouldn’t surprise me if Eriksen is waiting to see if he could be playing with FDJ, before making his decision too.

Sounds like it will be spread out. I know most deals are done in this way but could be what they were negotiating for this long, the exact structure of it all.

We needed 2 months negotiations for that? Meanwhile surely we could engage in other signings

Hope it's something like 60 upfront rising to 20 over three years or more. Then present the initial figure to media like how Pool signed Nunez for 64.

Hardly two months . Also I'd wait for the report on the initial fee before I myself start complaining
Rumours started before the FA u18 finals. In my opinion we wasted too much time on such deal and once again we had proven unable to seal multiple deals at once

The fees reported across media are wildly different. Some report 60M euro + 20M euro add-ons = 80M total. Others 80M euro + 15M add-ons = 95M total. And anything in between. None of them know anything about it. It will be decided by Thursday one way or another.

For posterity, I personally don't believe in this transfer. I think it's a mistake. High fee + insane wages = very high risk. We've had way too many of those and I think a lot of people overestimate the impact he will have. In addition to all the other caveats, like his reluctance to come here in the first place and doing so for his old coach (what happens if Ten Hag is sacked 2 years from now on? what happens if we don't make Top 4 next season?). Let's hope Ten Hag can make him work in the PL.

1) As has been repeated constantly we have engaged with other signings. 2) He is on holiday. The only benefit of signing him sooner was to stop the moaning eejits who need their latest shiny toy from having a meltdown every 15 minutes. 3) You have no idea how much has been saved. Nobody knows what Barca were originally asking. 4) 5m isn’t nothing anyway. What a bizarre inference.

It’s exceptionally tedious that we appear to be set to sign ETHs key target, a player many would have loved and wouldn’t have thought possible 3 months ago who plays in a position we’ve needed strengthened for years and all people are still doing is fecking moaning. We’re about to sign one of the top midfielders around from Barcelona without CL football and the narrative is we’re competing with Brentford. It’s ridiculous. The media take their steer from the unrelenting stream of negativity online - it’s open season at United and any negative story gets everyone into an hysterical frenzy - and this place just helps feed that constant cycle of toxicity.

So why we haven't signed other players? What's wrong in securing targets early like most efficient clubs do? You do know that the more we wait the more desperate the situation gets? Team tend not to like selling players late which is why clubs like to secure transfers as early as possible

Its been said several times at this point but the reason is said to be because De Jong is so crucial to Ten Hags plans that we have to make sure we get him before other targets. It's possible not getting De Jong would change our transfer plans and it makes sense when you see how unique his style was under ETH

we have deals in place but don’t know who we can prioritise yet imo. once this deal is complete we can say we have 60m left + sales and work from there.

Why? These sort if excuses aren't seen in any properly run club. Why not just admit that similarly to other years we struggle to do more then 1 deal at once?

Seems to be a lot more murmurings that this isn’t far away so fingers crossed we can get more deals done in the next few weeks

Maybe those other players have doubts and a signing like De Jong as a statement will help them along? Maybe getting De Jong impacts the profile and thus targets we need elsewhere? Maybe…and I’m really spitballing here…just maybe signing a player for 70m plus 300k wages impacts the budget and what you can spend elsewhere?

And even saying all that - it’s fecking June. It is early by any definition. City literally just agreed a fee with Phillips two days ago. Arsenal with Jesus the same and still working on Raphinha like we are with Antony. Spurs are still negotiating to “only” save a few millions for Spence…every single club outside maybe Liverpool will make signings from this point on. Why weren’t they all signed earlier if it’s oh so easy and important? Every reliable journalist has said De Jong first then the dominoes will fall quickly. You’re all moaning of the sake of fecking moaning.

So we aren't able to make a plan B? What were our excuses in previous seasons when transfers took ages as well? For example it took us 2 years to sign sancho and maguire

You know that won’t happen. It will be €85m paid up front but mistaken as £. I noticed with Liverpool even the Minamino sale was quoted in Euros to make the deal look better. Really don’t understand why they do that when it involved English clubs and targeted news to English fans.

These clubs are ahead of us despite not needing the millionth rebuild that we need

Fairly certain Barca had to drop their asking price by quiet a bit. If we can get a deal struck at 80 mil, would be a 20 mil savings on Barca's initial valuation of the player.

we probably do have a plan B, but why settle for that when you get your plan A?

If you want a ferrari you don’t get impatient and buy an alfa romeo instead.

De Jong is still on holiday. We are probably waiting for him to return before anything really kicks off in the first place.
