Xavi did an interview a few years back and it was delusional. He basically talked about how Barca is the "final exam" for a player, that Sterling can find space that CR can't, that Real don't want to play football and are fine with booting the ball into the stands, that Mbappe and Henry are more "physicality" than "talent" and that Javier Mascherano had to learn to play properly when he went to Barca.

I remember hearing that a Madrid-linked newspaper in Spain called PSG's game against them as his "audition" as if he'd be lucky to be let go there. Their conviction that they are always the biggest and best is hilarious and watching Mbappe puncture that was glorious.
To be fair they ended the season as champions of Europe and psg did jackshit so while their fans have this weird inferiority complex they really don't have any reason to do so, I find it strange tbh.

I think a lot of Real Madrid fans care more about having the biggest stars than the biggest trophies.

This started off so well, but has taken 6-7 wrong turns since then.

I guess this board didn’t want to be seen as the sacrificial term that put the club first and their lack of success during their tenure as a necessary evil to put the club back on the right track again.

Sacrifice the future so they can sign Raphinha now!

Why is it that you come to a Manchester United board to post almost exclusively about Barcelona and Messi?
Why is it that a Manchester board has 100+ pages about Barca? I enjoy the discussion of all things not United. And considering how wrong 95% of the posts in this thread are I don’t mind contributing. There are many many posters on here who support other clubs and only post on this forum (non united) than in the united. I’m one of hundreds. I enjoy the forum.

Barca took the payday to keep the lights on. No way are they splashing cash on transfers. People seriously under estimate how expensive their short term loans (approx €350m maturing in the next 12 months) are going to get and especially as they're only one grade above junk status (probably will go to junk shortly.)

This is also before we even get to the fact that the money they 'saved' last year through 'wage cuts' is shortly going to reappear as they were in fact deferments.

Barca essentially will have to sell at least one of their best players every year for the next 5-6 years as no way are they complying with La Liga FFP with their current debt level and the current trajectory of interest rates.
Good response and understood. What I meant was how are they still trying to chuck millions at Lewa, Raphina, Kounde if things are so bad? How much have they paid Christensen for him to turn his back on Chelsea?

If im reading that correctly at the bottom then 98 percent of their revenue went on wages!
Its insane and selling off revenue only makes it worse. This tv deal barely covers the deferred wages of Messi and Pique alone! IMO there’s going to be a huge court case about that involving the entire squad in the future when Barca don’t pay up

They’ve become such a bizarre football club. Instead of saying they’re up to their eyeballs in debt they use words like “levers”.

Expenses are inflated by €250M approximately.

Anyway in a few weeks the economic accounts of Barcelona will be seen.

Laporta has been saying that they are in debt for a whole year and a half. I guess outside of Spain and if you don't understand Spanish you won't have heard that.

Apparently Laporta has been budgeting for winning leagues and getting to semi finals of CL for income so I’m guessing that evens out. It’s beyond ridiculous.

Barcelona always puts in the budget to win the league to increase expenses, semifinals of copa del rey and quarterfinals of champions.
Real Madrid also reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

But that’s not a good thing judging by where they are now. That type of nonsense got them into this mess, any sort of barren run absolutely turns you over.
Everybody at that club is trying to be too clever for their own good.
Edit if I were Flo I would budget for winning the league for the next 10 years judging by the competition

That is simply a forecast of income and expenses that do not influence the budget much. Bartomeu's economic accounts were nonsense.
Barcelona are working hard to lower the wage bill, I'm curious how much it will be next year.
I have a feeling that most here will be surprised.

Barcelona activating these economic agreements will eliminate a lot of debt, which is where the money will go.
I don't know where you get that Barcelona will need to sell their best players for the next 5-6 years. Obviously that's not true but not even close to it.

That wasn't our problem. Barca need to cutback. Why they keep signing old stars on big wages is beyond me though. Apparently the idea of developing players to sell them on is an affront to their self-image.
Barcelona has lowered the wage bill a lot and more than them will continue to do so. That will allow Barcelona to have players like Lewandowski without an economic imbalance.

They owe Pique so much money and yet he remains loyal and doesn't seem to mind it. I guess you don't need money when you have Shakira at home.

That graphic suggests that they budgeted for their expenses to be 96 percent of their revenue but it turned out their expenses were 80 percent more than their revenue. That is they burned through half a billion of euros of loss in that year.

The biggest culprit seems to be losing revenue due to covid and some non wages expnses which got discovered in due diligence ie expenses they had previously not budgeted for

Surprised no one is mentioning the name change for the stadium, Spotify Camp Nou. Everything is for sale.

Yeah but why? Lewandowski is going to cost a lot and bring in nothing. They could just hoover up the best young players from Spain and South America for less wages and if they have to, sell them for a fortune to PSG.

These players can also suck too and they won't necessarily be cheap.

Bringing lewandowski can mean bringing in more money from the box office, subscribers, merchandise, sponsors and even going further in the champions league.
A young and good player is very expensive. The transfer would be much greater.
And also the performance of him is an unknown.

They still have to pay all the lenders, vendors, and all that deferred salary they've done for the past year or two to the actual players. Those "reduced" wages weren't actually "reduced", just deferred.

So we'll pay you the money later, of which is money they've borrowed against the future. It's hilarious.

And they still have to be able to offload players and their salaries just to register new incoming players.

The money received by these agreements will go to reduce the debt.

Thought it was 10? No way is it 25, that’s actually negligent
It has always been said that Barcelona was going to sell 25% of the league's television rights. That's about €40M a year.

Selling the rights to your year over year revenue for the extra cash to stay alive in one transfer window: genius.
I guess I get the nostalgia … but people lining up to play for a team that just asked its players not to take their full paychecks, as they continue to spiral into a flaming financial nosedive … it baffles me.

Such financial mismanagement should cost them years in Midtable or even a lower division. However their TV money will probably save them and they won't skip a beat.

I really feel for Valencia, Sevilla, Villarreal, Español, Bilbao. I wonder how much tv money they get.

Yes I know most people tune in to watch Barca. But the league has suffered as a result.

Yes, and the tv rights of Brighton and Man Utd are the same.

They give up €40M a year so as not to be without signing 5+ years and selling important players. The money goes to pay debts and with the salary reduction plus the sale of FDJ gives you to sign players.

Midtable or lower division? I refuse to explain anything else here.

Then the surprises will come and people will start with conspiracy theories.
