Feel sorry for the Ronaldo fans as I know how passionately they are about their boy

But this is a positive and we should never have brought him back. Far too immobile and certainly hampered us a lot of last season despite his goals.

Hope he goes to Chelsea but reckon he will end up at Bayern or now that he is allowed back into the USA he might end up there

I have no idea either, yet.
I'm not sure people understand this unfortunately.

We tend to spend about 80m net a summer.

We have next to no-one to spend as we managed to totally screw up Pogba/Lingard situations and let 100m of players go for free.

We're hoping (not even sure) that we can spend 60-70m on FDJ, and 15m on a reserve full back.

That's our budget.
Of course they do but they see the folly in him staying if he wants to go is all.

I'd happily have us finishing 17th if that means we can get rid of that narcissist twat and let ETH build a young team and implement his football.
You could just as easily find we come 17th, the new "style" is sh!te and we're onto the next manager and even further from anything.

Imagine hating our best player.

Oh I don't like this guy with his high standards

Don't be absurd. It's the inverse of why we idolise players like Robson and Keane who were top of their fields and chose us. It's part of the word club.

If you expect feel the same for clubs I don't support as the way for the club I do support then what's the point?

It's not like I'm expecting him to play in the 4th division. There is being wise in terms of your career and there's Cristiano. He looks after number one, fair enough but it's not that admirable a characteristic to me.
My point was, I don’t understand resenting players for looking after themselves when clubs do the same. United included.

Unfortunately, United are currently shit, and much like United does and moves on shit players to enhance their chance of winning, it’s understandable quality players would want to move on from shit clubs to do the same.

I’d be more inclined to agree if I believed United would still spend big on a striker after signing Martínez and De Jong.

But it’s impossible to see it. And it all adds up to Martial up front which is even worse for Ten Hags style of play because he doesn’t move

He has standards and the club seemingly has none. Unsurprising.

We papered over a crack with Cavani, and the papered over the paper with Ronnie.

Oh bloody hell, Martial!! I forgot he's back with us.

At least he'll provide the running that people seem to think is the most important part of a forward's job.
Oh wait...

Some of the players must be loving it.

Phew, thank goodness this guy with high standards is leaving

Well most of the matches we were saved by Ronaldo and/or De Gea
His build-up play for the first 6-7 months of the season was shocking, some of the worst I've ever seen from a high-profiled player. He also missed a lot of easy chances where he should have done a lot better. He'll be easily replaced.

Hope we get rid ASAP so all his shitey tweets don’t clog up the Twitter thread.

We all agree with the central premise that we need to replace Ronaldo in the long term. The issue is that replacing a 25 goal a season striker with someone who can guarantee the same output will cost closer to €100M - and it would be a truly insane window if we plunked down €200M+ this summer.

Sod him, he's rubbish.

Jesus would of been cheaper and better suited for ETH I think.

Insane we didn't make contact!

Where did I said I hate him? It's true I hate watching this 38 yo Ronaldo though.

Unfortunately we do now 100% need a striker, which is annoying as we could’ve waited for next summer if he’d have stuck around.

I think most would agree to that but it's a fecking disaster in reality because there is a lack of options to replace him.
Exactly. If we had the 20 goal a year version of Rashford and wonderboy Greenwood waiting in the wings then it wouldn’t be such an issue, but we don’t. We were light on goalscorers last season even with Ronaldo and Cavani.

We will have to hope that Rashford, Sancho and Fernandes have world class seasons just to stand a chance of top four!

There's only one United!
He has standards and the club seemingly has none. Unsurprising.
And the club and owners have been taking us for a ride for a long time too.
It's so obvious that FDJ just doesn't want to come here with no CL football and it's only EtH who might persuade him along with a big dosh of cash.
Eriksen too has been reticent of accepting unless it's a good paycheck for him.
And what do we know about a reserve LB and Martinez?
I'm certain that EtH knows much more than me!

He's such a club legend he cried about being a slave when we didn't let him go to Madrid in 2008 and Fergie literally had to go on his knees so he'd stay for another season. Club legends don't do that.
Many of our club legends have done worse. What makes you a club legend is giving your absolute all for the club and being the catalyst and being one of the big reasons for a period of huge success which we can all agree Ronaldo has been. Even last season when the rest of the players who are half his age and won nothing he showed a desire and will to win for the club that is worthy of that title. When was the last player we've seen that from?

We don't want a like for like, that's the thing...
Yep, I can see it.
Let's get a guy who plays best on the left of an attack and barely scores, as our sole striker.

Could work!
Seems to have a cracking attitude too

Under soil heating.
Been saying it for weeks it’s mad we aren’t linked with any strikers even if he stays so feck knows what we do now. I’d bin the Martinez deal off for starters, this is a far more pressing need unless we have way more cash than being led on. And even then there’s a real dearth in quality suitable players for up front.

Does it have to take to july for him to tell United to leave or had the club know since may?

In a dysfunctional team tbf.

Didn't see Rashford getting near those numbers.

I'm OK with him leaving but folks need to snap out of it and realize he needs replacing with a good CF.
Because Palace and Leicester were super functional last season.

Rashford isn't good enough. But then again 4 goals in half as many minutes and no penalties (So maybe 8 + 3 pens + playing at 9) wouldn't be miles off Ronaldo's 18.

but but he called himself a slave while caring for the club, there is a difference.

Not bothered at all. Also can’t imagine him at Bayern, don’t know why they would be interested in a declining player who wants to play all the time.

The goals will come if the coach / the system is right. The goals even came under Ole in the two seasons before Ronaldo joined after all.
And they for sure came in 2006/07 when RvN left and people were asking the same question.
Doesn’t matter how “strong” ETH is, the drama will always be there with a name like Ronaldo “will he play, will he get substituted, how will he react, blah blah” and he is just not worth all this drama anymore.
