Key word there - short term. When the cash injection has dried up, then what? They'll be in a worse position next year, and will have to raise the cash either by mass sales or selling off more stuff
They seem to be running on the premise of ‘we’ll worry about that next year’ they couldn’t register Messi last summer then went and paid 50 odd million for Torres

Laporta is full of shit.

He swindled so many Barcelona fans into believing he wanted to keep Messi, when he definitely made sure the club couldn't re-sign him.

I can't believe we'd have spent this long negotiating with Barca without having found out whether or not De Jong is up for coming.

It would be too incompetent to comprehend.

Imagine if we cock this up  In what should have been one of our busiest transfer windows in our history we negotiate for almost 2 months for a players that doesn't want to join.

Haha what's the point in this deal, leave the fella alone. He likes Barca, probably doesn't fancy being coerced into living in England for the foreseeable future, that's fair enough

I will say part of the issue with United's transfers in the past decade is we're always trying to wrench players from massive clubs, clubs at this point that are more successful/attractive than United. We should be picking up the best talent for whom United is a big step up and they have everything to prove.

By this point, we all know whether he's up for coming.

They want more of the money up front, so I guess that is the last bit of business to be iron out.

I think it will be done the coming week.
But the reported deal agreed was a break through in the up front fee, just sorting out the structure of add ons.
I’m not really having a a go at you here but we seem to be picking and choosing what we want to believe from the reports to make it look as if it’s still on. In my mind it’s either all true or it’s not. If they’re still haggling then there was no break through in negotiation at all.
Im just waiting for DeJong to finally come back from holiday and nonchalantly put this all to bed. I’m happy to stay and fight for my place and of course I’ll do anything I can to help the club financially. Then we can all finally move on. People laughed at Eriksen when the report came out he wanted to see who we’d sign before committing. He’s proven to be the smartest man in the room.

This is nonsense from Laporta. It’s his signature move. Also football news stories on a Sunday fall to a 17% accuracy

It would be spectacular. 500 pages and then nothing? Sounds familiar at this point. I still think we get him. We can’t let the manager down for such an integral piece this early on. FDJs silence says to me he is going to hold out for a whopper contract though.

I can't either but I posted as UTDexclusive don't usually post stuff with no source. It might be a podcast or a youtube stream.
Only 2/3 accounts have posted it. Think it might be fake. Saw it earlier but ignored it.

Usually the aggregator account all jump on the same stuff at once and the main ones haven't tweeted this.

Then Laporta will spring on him that he has to take upwards of a 70% cut in wages most likely.
You can love a club but bloody hell would you work for over half less of what you were on before? If your employer came to you and said we need you to slash your monthly pay for you to stay here, would you realistically do it when you have an offer of going somewhere else for what you're earning now?

It is almost certainly just a case of Laporta saving face. He’s not for sale, but he’s wanted and we need to save money. Probably just posturing to appease the Barca fans and maybe to try and squeeze a few more € out of us to seal the deal. I wouldn’t worry about this lads.
I think this is posturing as well. How can they afford raphinha, Leodowski etc without selling some players? La liga ffp is very strict. Plus dont they want frenkie gone to give their two supertalented young midfielders a chance in his spot in the team?

Directly under the sun... NOW!
The "He's coming, we're grand" gang is as tedious as the "He's not coming, we're fecked" gang.

And the repetitive arguments are pointless, because most are so incredibly stubborn.

Round and round we go, where we stop we don't know.

It's more or less reached a point where I despise the vast majority of our supporters, massive twats. Bizarre that some can't calm the feck down. The basics are in place, Ten Hag wants Frenkie, Frenkie isn't against leaving and Barcelona are happy to sell him. Doesn't mean a transfer will happen, doesn't mean that we were morons going for him in the first place either. Frenkie isn't going to go public with a desire to leave the club, as he's well aware he might end up staying, and Laporte sure as shit isn't going to go public and proclaim Barcelona's desperation to sell him either. We're haggling over a fee that is acceptable to both parties, nothing more and nothing less.
They are either naive or inexperienced in doing deals. Or suddenly feeling so insecure since United arent perennial winners and are lost -- and taking their frustrations out on anything and everything.

He wants to stay at Barca. That much is pretty clear. If Barca weren't willing to sell he wouldn't give us the time of day.
Got it in one!!
And why should he? "I wouldn't want to be associated with any club that would take such as me as a member" ("who : quote")

Perhaps now Woodwards gone, then ETH (via Murtough) will be able to manage up and persuade the Glaziers that being successful at football is what brings the 'cash cow' to life. None of our managers since the SAF/Gill duo have had that ability and just went where they were pushed. If we are to get out of the 'slide to oblivion' that we could be facing, we need ETH/Murtough to be able to manage up as well as down!

Could you imagne how Frenkie must feel if he DID lower his wages to stay, probably over 50% of what he's on now, only for Lewandowski to come in and earn more than double? No one in their right mind would think Lewa would come in and play for Barca for peanuts.

But but but... Laporta said he's absolutely not for sale!
Posturing and bluffing. Laporta the BSer strikes again eh
There was something interesting posted before about Ogden saying a while back that United found it difficult to deal with Barca as they would say one thing in private, but something different in public. I guess this is a perfect example of that

What a saga this is becoming...it would be funny if he took a pay cut and stayed at Barca.

So according to Ogden Laporta is a liar, they've agreed a fee and nothing has changed....B...O....M....B......S.....H....E.....L....L
I was just posting.

Personally I think this deal is done. No way Barca will back out of selling, they can't afford to.
