Are Australian teams also in preseason? They certainly look sharper than we do and than Liverpool did
No, they play a winter season in Australia. Save them playing in 45°C during their summers. So this team will be 100% match fit.

You can see the players trying to work those Pep under/overlaps and constant cutbacks. It will come. I’m impressed already.

This is why you have a pre-season and why we need as much time as possible for EtH to get to grips with these players. New ideas are very easy to implement for high level athletes on a basic level against a weak or lazy opposition. Its much much harder to do the same thing when the opposition make it really hard for you.

Thats why every new skill is learned slowly and without pressure and you slowly add speed and pressure. We will only know how the players are truly adapting after probably half the season unless by some miracle we hit the ground running and everything just clicks.

Sancho being quite good. Just need the rest to play at that level as well. Eriksen FDJ would comfortably unlock that defence.

Sancho is brilliant.

Mctominay has a terrible first touch, always stops attacks at the wrong time.

I like that Melbourne are playing so compact at the back. One of our biggest problems in recent years has been dealing with teams that just bulk the front of their box with players, so it’ll be interesting to see if we can learn to break that down.
A blessing in disguise this. :)

Compare the movement of our players trying to break down a parked bus today with what we were like that season. With Rangnick and Ole we were devoid of ideas, but it looks like today that we’re being quite creative. Players are actually running at defenders and finding channels. It’s good to see, hopefully it ends up in a goal before half time…..

I like how every single corner of ours turns into an attack for Melbourne. Same as last season.

Yeah, I’d rather they learn the lesson today than during the full season. If we go down a goal this season then you’d expect teams to keep using this strategy.

Last 10 minutes have been much better. Bruno, Sancho and Martial looking sharp and Fred really looks a £50m player in this system. His ability to win the ball back up the pitch is top class.
He's a starter for next season. I don't know why is he always thrown out there with McT when team is criticised.

Sancho’s been good cause he suits quick, technical play. Most of our players look like fish out of water so the gulf in class is palpable.

Obviously United agreed to give a goal lead and asked them to defend it.

Great workout this.

Surprised most of you are too daft to realise it.

Not to disagree with you, but didn't SAF enjoy having a lot of those early preseason matches against cannon fodder like the MLS ALL-Stars, K-League teams, Chinese Super League teams, etc? Friendlies against more organized and (most likely) European clubs were usually kept towards the end of the preseason run.

I know they’re playing against players that are about 7 or 8 levels above them, but this is preseason, fellas. Wouldn’t hurt you to come out of your own box in the first half of a match!

My issue with Shaw is that hes not an intelligent footballer. He reminds me of Valencia in the way that you feel like there could be 10 players at the edge of the box and he would still cross into the area he wants to rather than adapting to where the players actually are. He puts in a lot of crosses that have no merit because the area he is putting it is congested or blocked.

Honestly don’t know which is funnier. Maguire’s running, Fred’s shooting or Martial wearing gloves.
