Already working on his replacement...

I mean, this is probably what's annoying FdJ more than anything. Barca are broke so they need to sell him to sort out their finances, but they're also super keen to reinvest that money in the squad immediately.

Barca should just be honest with him and tell him he's not good enough and they don't want him at the club anymore for the amount he'll cost.

They're spinning the yarn for the fans to accept his exit with 'we can't sign/register any of these sexy signings if he stays'.

It's cold but it might move things along the way they're doing everything to make a potential stay as uncomfortable as possible for Frenkie
All they have to do is pay the dude, and he would gladly tell them to go feck a goat and walk.

I can assure you you know nothing at all.
If you’re referring to the money issue being the only or the main blockage, that’s rubbish. He’s been told by Barca they want him to leave for a reason, to gather funds, but he’d clearly rather stay there

if it’s something else, go ahead and give me the run down

It’s not about reinvestment of his fee, it’s getting him off the wage cap so they can register new players.
He is certainly good enough what ever his value.

It sounds like there's definitely some truth behind the Bernardo links.

It's one thing to register the free players, it's another to see Barca going for a direct replacement at a similar price he's being sold for.

They are activating a 2nd lever to raise capital. Obviously the FDJ fee will help but they are only allowed to use some of it because of Spanish FFP. The deJong issue is mostly to do with the amount he’s due to earn this season and next and getting him off the wage bill to free up room under the cap to register players for La Liga.

So City may be selling Sterling, Jesus, Ake and Silva for almost £200m. That’s a big net income regardless of the money on Halaand and Phillips. Who are they after…

Waiting is the right thing to do. There is no alternative to ‘just move on’ to. De Jong is special, and this is a rare opportunity to get a player like this and it must be pursued to the fullest.

You're perhaps thinking of the Di Maria situation and drawing comparisons with FDJ. But it's not the same thing at all. Di Maria never wanted to come to United, whereas FDJ doesn't want to leave his boyhood club Barca, a big difference.

FDJ will be more than happy to reunite with Ten Hag and be one of the key men in his midfield rebuild - he's a bit-part player at Barca.

Barcelona have about 3 or 4 transfers lined up now. Must admit it would be amusing if they all collapsed because de Jong refused to leave. Still, would rather get this over with and sign him.

Might explain then why they are chasing both Silva and Lewa having another 300m plus land on their doorstep.

Still its fiscally irresponsible in their situation.
They're chasing Lewa and Silva because they'll recoup most of the outlay by selling FDJ to United.

FDJ will be a United player before the end of the transfer window. Put your house on it.

Do Bernardo's salary cheaper than FDJ a lot?
He will be cheaper but more importantly he can be fantastic in that RCM / RAM type position. FdJ was being shoehorned in there but it's not his natural role and he can't be as effective there.

This is why I've been repeating that this transfer will happen. Xavi wants someone who can just wait between the lines, receive the ball in a tight area and make something happen. Carrying the ball out of defence will be done by Busquets. FdJ is not that useful to them unless they change their entire system.

That would be a hard pass for me

I get what they are trying to do here, perception is FDJ is holding up all these deals and makes fans and the other players turn on him etc.. Still, if they don't pay him off then he's fully entitled to not move.

It's a legally binding contract.

That much is obvious, but I don’t understand the ‘now you believe’ comment? I never disputed levers, we were talking about the nature of the deferral?

Surely they would put that money to better use, like paying the wages back to all the players that they owe.

That club is a disgrace. I really hope they cease as a club in the near future.

Imagine how Frenkie must be feeling now.
He's been told he's got to leave, he's got no option at all. They're working on and close to finalising his replacement, but if he doesn't leave, then he's going to be accused of ruining the clubs transfer plans and he'll be made an example of and pretty much ostracized by the club. He's in a lose-lose situation. He can stay and make Barca honour his contract, but he'll be hated beyond belief.

In the end, i think he'll leave, but it's how each side spins it that'll be interesting
