That much is obvious, but I don’t understand the ‘now you believe’ comment? I never disputed levers, we were talking about the nature of the deferral?

I posted a link from Sport stating they are to receive a further 320m approx and you said I shouldn't believe it as the source is not respectable essentially.

We're definitely in the end stages with Barca actively spending huge money while still jot being able to register some or their other signings. They're expecting outgoings and FDJ would represent their biggest cash windfall in that regards this summer.

They're going to dial the pressure up to max to make any potential stay for him untenable and likely non-starter with the spin they'll be pushing to their fans. Dangling big money sexy signings over their heads and making it out that they won't be possible if he stays.

As much as the fanbase has hated the though of selling him, they'll hate not getting shiny new toys much more

Surely they would put that money to better use, like paying the wages back to all the players that they owe.

That club is a disgrace. I really hope they cease as a club in the near future.
You'd think so, wouldn't you.

To be fair, Barca are getting a great deal out of all this. They're selling a rotation player for a fat sum of money, which in turn funds both the Lewa and Silva transfers. Not bad bit of business for a club that's (supposedly) borderline bankrupt :smirk:

60m Euro's for a 34 year old, I have no idea what Barca are thinking.

You wouldn't think they'll spunk it all in one window right, that cash is them literally selling their assets.
It is very unwise. It seems like they want to strengthen their first 11 as much as possible so that they"ll win trophies, get huge sponsorcontracts, sell lots of merchandise and good tv-deals to offset the funds that they will miss in coming years and the funds that they already owe.

Incredibly risky business.

This makes little sense, we want him to prematurely end that contract which is the only situation where Barcelona can legally get out of that contract. If anything United should be the most patient actor or should pay the 17m. Otherwise your proposition is a bit like threatening to shoot in your own foot.
That implies that he's our ONLY target for that position which makes me even more nervous and less confident in our transfer business.

I get that Ten Hag wants Frenkie specifically but it's not like we haven't been trying. Barca and Frenkie are having a lovers quarrel that ain't ending soon. At some point we have to explore plans B and C or strap ourselves in for a season long McFred masterclass.

Very risky business with an unproven manager.

According to this too, Leeds got a big amount up front for Raphinha

Of course they did. Any club would be stupid to take IOUs from Barcelona. They are failing to honour the ones they have kade with their own players.

That would be a hard pass for me

I get what they are trying to do here, perception is FDJ is holding up all these deals and makes fans and the other players turn on him etc.. Still, if they don't pay him off then he's fully entitled to not move.

It's a legally binding contract.
I'm only guessing here, but I think United caved on this one and decided to cover a portion (or all) of FDJ's deferred wages. According to reports, the original fee was £56 million before the deferred wages stuff was made public, wind on 2-3 weeks and the seling fee rose to £75 + 10 million in addons, which covers the £17 M owed to FDJ and change.

I'm only guessing, as I said, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was is the case given how desperate we are for midfield quality and ETH making it clear he wanted FDJ above all else.

Yhep, they are putting a lot of faith in Xavi.

I think he's a good manager btw, but wouldnt even conduct such business with Pep at the helm.

A smart club would tone it down abit, they could employ Woodward, he would make them a commercial behemoth with their current squad.

Fairly sure it'll be leaked if he's in the preseason squad or not relatively soon.

Even with selling de Jong, aren't Barca still going to be fecked? None of these new signings will be coming on a cheap wage and some won't even have resale value.

As a Barca fan here said earlier if the club doesn't sprinkle some stardust every summer transfer market the Camp Nou will be half empty the following season.

They don't have a choice in taking this approach. The fans demand it. They will not entertain any idea of austerity at all.

They're doomed then.
