I just dont think thats true. With the levers, that gives them enough room and Xavi counts on FdJ. On top, FdJ appears to not want to move unless he has to and Barca either dont want to pay him or dont push him out either. This one seems dead
the barca money man literally said FFP requires FDJ to be sold. why do we keep ignoring that?

Can you explain the levers? I've seen it a few times now but not what it is

Explained in great detail here.

They are selling of image rights, tv rights, signing sponsorships... all to raise money in the hope they can keep kicking the can down the road.

They are due to receive a 320m cash injection this week apparently and it allows them to balance the books a little to ensure new players are registered, Romero is reporting the same.

I think he’s using it as an excuse personally. From what I understand I don’t think his sale is strictly necessary.
why would they even need to say it if it isn’t true? it makes no sense.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if Barca know themselves. seems like they’ve just gone YOLO and splashed even more money and will worry about it later

The first one was to balance the books. The second one is so they have cash to spend.

It's more like Sanchez agreed to lower his wages to 100k a week for 2 seasons only to receive 700k a week in his last 2 seasons, then we try and get rid of him after the 2 seasons of him being on 100k and before his wages go up to 700k a week.

Totally different situation.
Not if you look at it from the point of view that the new contract he's signed is for £700k a week from the point it started. What happened before is irrelevant.

Look at what he and Laporta said. They contradicted each other.

They are pushing the narrative to attempt to force him out.

When you're 1.3b in debt, everything is balancing the books ;)

I say balance anyway with the -144m la liga limit in mind. The 320m will go some way to helping lower that amount and give wiggle room to sign players and keep within the FFP to register players.

Ideally they'd like to be rid of FDJ as we can see, but... there's little else they can do to force that other than have him warm the bench and then pay him.

The crap part about all this is, Barca is doing all they can to ensure that Frenkie is pushed out and in such a way they don't want to pay him what he's owed. He's rightfully refusing to go until he's payed what he's owed and this is causing a huge stalemate.

I see this ending with him leaving but in a very very messy way, being portrayed as a money hungry mercenary who doesn't value the club at all and is very money focused

Yeah I dont think its as black and white, as incompetent as barca are. However, its a fact that he is one of their highest paid players, so it would be a great help if he left. And he wont even be a guaranteed starter with Kessie coming in. Though possible, it would be a very weird situation if he stayed. If I was a bookmaker i'd put longer odds on him staying tbf

First one didnt balance the book to 1:1. This one will do that. Now they can spend whatever they earn after second round of levers

But he may not leave this summer. The figures are large enough that a quick solution isn't obvious.

I do not remember any transfer that's dragged out like this ever works out for the buying club.

We should work on the alternatives pronto. Like in panic mode! Instead of digging our heads in the sand and hoping for the improbable.

But what will happen when that money is gone and they're in the same situation again? Do they just keep selling stuff off until there is nothing left to sell?

If de Jong goes it obviously gives them a cash injection from United and wipes a lot of wages off the books. So it makes sense for him to go when you look at it like that

Why are Barca in such a hurry to get rid of him then? Is it a case of cash in whilst his value is high, or are they just trying to free up funds and FFP for other signings, which shouldn't be needed with these levers?

I think its off not cause he's on tour but because they're receiving 320m this week and stated that all new signings will be registered.

The tour thing doesn't matter at all really.
Cash flow to do the deals will be available, the trick is whether they can stay within the league wage cap. That is the main reason they want to sell frenkie

Isn't 85M euros a large enough figure for Barca to eventually relent with paying him 17M euros? At that point it's either 68M euros or nothing and a 600k a week player on the books.

Surely they will eventually give him his money instead of risking that?

This is why it baffles me that they are spending so heavily. They are banking on success to increase revenue to minimise the loss due to these deals. But its a risky way of doing things because if it didnt work in next few years, then their revenue will be less and they wont have the money to buy new stars.

Yes, the 2nd lever allows them to be registered (within the cap).
Do you think they are make 2 more signings in Silva and Kounde without selling a player? Cause like I said they ve already spent €115-130 in wages and fees. If they add 2 more in Silva and Kounde that’s another €150m in wages and fees.

So they're banking on a good CL run, high La Liga finish etc? If they don't get that, then they're screwed?

You know on LOST, Des had to keep pressing the buttons otherwise things go wrong? It’s like that, Laporte has to pull Levers under the stadium in a secret room. When they do, it stops the stadium disappearing but also it releases a leprechauns pot of gold for finance. Barca have a special scout team which has been scouring the world to find and retrieve them

His wage is only increasing, Barcelona aren't creating new money but borrowing future earnings, De Jong would be new money and he isn't necessary.

May be the new levers include their planned money to bribe the La Liga officials and get by that league wage cap as well.

I think he is wrong about this going to court.
If there are no additional clauses in his contract, of which the public is unaware of, about handling the deferred payments in the case of FdJ will leave Barcelona before the contract ends, FdJ had no legal case in court.

Let's assume it's only the deferred wages that hold up this transfer. Why did FdJ multiple times state publicly that he wants and intents to stay at Barcelona calling them his boyhood dream club.
Instead he should just give no comment at all and refer to the ongoing legal dispute about his deferred wages. Only when this issue will be resolved he will be able to speak about his future. This way he won't alternate Barcelona or Man United fans.
According to that video he needs to show that he wants to stay so that it becomes evident that he's being pushed out by Barcelona. Thus this will end up as an unfair dismissal and an attempt of breach of contract. Its also the reason to why Laporta is stating that they want FDJ to stay despite its evident that they want him out. Its within the lines (although different) why players who clearly want out would often refuse to handle a transfer request. That's because once they do that, they often forfeit to any transfer fee bonus clauses they might have within their contract

Irrespective of that United are going into a territory that goes beyond to what any club should be comfortable to be in. Unless we're ready to step in and pay any differed salaries, in full, (which would set a dangerous precedent on our part) then we should walk out. I am also bewildered that AFA ( Spanish Footballers' Association) has not stepped in yet. Its scandalous that a club like Barca is allowed to sign new players while concurrently doing their very best not to pay their current players what's due.

They've made the statement based on signings thus far, up to Lewandowski.

For Silva & Kounde to arrive also I assume they would need to sell / raise further funds to register absolutely.

I don’t think that’s accurate. Having more cash flow doesn’t equate to more wage cap. Wage cap is set by the league
The wage cap is set by the league yes, but logically that would fluctuate on a clubs financials.

There is a figure constantly quoted of -144m, if Barca get enough cash in then logically that would move towards the green and give room to sign players & manage the wage bill.

Explained in great detail here. Ideally they want rid of course but what can they do? Drop him to the bench? Reserves? If he doesn't leave, not much else they can do.

Yeah I believe that Bernardo would be only if Frenkie goes.
