I hope the rest of the players rip the p*ss out of him endlessly when he finally pitches back up. He needs to feel like part of the squad, not some brilliant fish out of water like the lead character in Hart of Dixie.

I don't know what to make of those comments tbh. Is ETH being serious or just not giving the media anything?
ETH is right to say this. Don't read too much into anything. If Cristiano cannot find another club, he has no choice but to come back. Whatever happens behind the scenes, it is absolutely not in the team, nor the club's best interest, to give anything to the press that they will use as a distraction. Better to keep your cards close to your chest.

Not just that ... it is very likely that Messi heads back to Argentina next season. He has always said that he wanted to go back to Newell's Old Boys while he could still contribute and not as an afterthought. This is why I don't believe that CL goals logic being used. I think it has to do with his roles and expectations from EtH that has put him off. Having said that, I'm sure he will be 100% professional if he stays.
I don't think the records matter to Messi as much as they matter to Cristiano, the most egotistical self centred primadonna of a footballer I have EVER seen.

Where did United say they will trigger this? ETH was more general in his comments. Let's not go overboard. Either Ronaldo finds another club, or he has to come back. In the case he's back because we and he don't have any choice, then we need to find a way to deal with situation. Better for ETH to keep it polite in public. No need to get the press in a frenzy.

You don't have to take offence from this, it doesn't necessarily mean you are one of them, unless you really feel devastated after hearing what ETH has said.
I am devasted. Because i don't want to see that prick in United shirt ever again.
Tell me, when drama queen leaves, you are leaving with him or...?

I don't get it, unless all of things is a front i don't see how ten hag finds it alluring to keep him while he wants out.

Hope he doesn't make a big mistake here, it couldn't bring a premature end to his United reigns if it goes wrong.

Keeping him this way is basically accepting that Ronaldo is bigger than United, imagine another player acting this way embarrassing both himself and the club weeks long at a top club and getting away with it. Imagine SAF tolerating a thing like that or any serious top team. Real did not hesitate to show the guy the door when he was much younger after the CL win when he only asked for salary increase, does not look good for United, weak team mentality..

If nobody wants him what should we do exactly?

He wasn't doing it much, though. His numbers were lower than any other forward at the club, by some way too. He's just not capable of doing it consistently at this age and that's not a slight on him, it's just the way it goes when you edge towards 40. The optimal outcome would be for him to be rotated and managed properly, but he'll want to start every game possible.
He was far more mobile than the other forwards. I find it perplexing how people have already forgot that. Mostly pointless runs that never resulted in turnovers mind you as he just got passed around early.

In a team setup to press he'll be in the right place systematically he just won't be like Tevez and hound players.

Excellent thread. Someone is absolutely furious about something on every page despite almost nothing actually happening. Which tbf does seem to be the default state of every football thread at the moment.

Ten Hag talking about building a team around a player whose agent is whoring him around Europe to any club that will listen. That's a bit concerning, I thought he was supposed to be a manager who took no shit and didn't care for reputations, or players who weren't committed

“I think Cristiano is capable of doing that [pressing],” Ten Hag said. “In his career he has shown everything. I have my set demand. We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad.”

Yup. He certainly won't say I don't know how to work with Ronaldo and don't want him in the team.

He’s an idiot for leaving Real in the first place. Conditions there were absolutely perfect for him.
Yup. The Juventus move in hindsight was terrible. He’s wasted his time there and so did Juventus.

Atleti would be a similar story. Only viable option is Bayern but they can’t stop saying no to him

So you do not believe he would have gone to City if we hadn’t stepped in?
Or do you not believe he has been rejected by all the top clubs he has approached?
I believe City was happening and I believe Bayern is the real interest and the club that said they don’t want him.

PSG, Chelsea, Atletico,Sporting etc. Is all rubbish and a lot fueled by typical British tabloids. His name causes clicks and controversey.

I believe that yes he has/has personal family issues he has been dealing with some which are very public and I also believe that he would wish to compete in a side that competes for the CL (I.E. Bayern). Many on here are so gullible and If the daily mirror tells you ”Ronaldo will create his own club just to leave Man Utd” over half of you would believe it.

Welcome to media, 90% bs with 10% truth.

Expecting a 37 year old player to change is unrealistic. That doesn't just apply to Ronaldo. He played like this for years. I am not even sure he'd be physically capable to play with high intensity for prolonged periods of time. The only question is, if he accepts a smaller role - early subs and/or being a sub. The management has to back EtH 100% and talk to Ronaldo at the start of the season and tell him that he can't have a special role. He has to leave if he doesn't accept that.
Back to our discussion, like I said he will ask Ronaldo to press, 100%. The challenge now becomes what he does when Ronaldo refuses.
I think he will drop him.

I don't get this. The numbers (and the eye test) illustrate that Ronaldo wasn't pressing. It includes attempted pressures as well as successful pressures so the idea that he was running loads but getting passed around (and therefore the numbers don't reflect his efforts?) doesn't add up. Pressing just isn't part of his game and hasn't been for awhile.

This is a tiny, silly thing but the way that first tweet is worded makes ETH sound like a journalist and not the manager of the club. "I am well informed", Ronaldo either does or he doesn't have an extension clause and if anyone knows it would be ETH.

I know English isn't his first language and it doesn't mean anything but it still made me laugh.

Ronaldo so far has only embarrassed himself not united, he's under contract and would need to find a buyer if he wants to go that's not in United hands.
As for missing preseason he has a personal issue which the club are satisfied with, weather true or not that's the official line.
If he doesn't end up leaving it will be up to him to work his way back and prove his commitment to the club and fans.
At the moment ETH is Mr popular so Ronaldo has very little leverage in all this.

CF can just split CBs in some pressing systems or just sit on the better passer of the two in others, or even go free if you move another body into the midfield and take more risks defensively. Plenty of ways Ronaldo can fit into his system, as long as we see a lot of the ball and he actually gets service he can still score a lot of goals without being detrimental. This is a transitional season, there's no way he's here next season but if he can't get a move (which is best for everyone) he can play a part.

That is the most naive comment I’ve ever read on this thread.

1) what exactly are we supposed to do with him? He’s under contract and until the club and him don’t reach a mutual agreement, neither can force the other to break the contract.

2) then you mentioned SAF & Real not tolerating such & such. Yes they would gladly show the door but when they received a handsome fee in return. Your dear club Juventus offered 100m for a 30+ aged Ronaldo when Real apparently didn’t ‘hesitate’ to show the guy the door. I mean . And let’s be honest, what good did buying Ronaldo even get your club? Just further embarrassment. He literally broke the chemistry of the team by the time he left and really didn’t win you a CL either. Which was what you guys bought him for unless I’m mistaken. And then to think he left you in a worse condition then when you bought him. And since we’re talking about embarrassments, both Milan clubs have taken a title off you while you’re still reeling from spending an insane amount of money to bring in and pay a player who probably should never have been signed and those funds invested elsewhere perhaps?

3) He’s hardly embarrassing our club. If anything he’s only embarrassed himself when nobody has offered to sign him on for their club. He would’ve embarrassed himself further had he accepted the offer from a Saudi club who were the only ones willing to sign him and also pay us 30m transfer fee. I’d again hardly call that an embarrassment for us. We’d be the only club in the world to first buy then sell a 37 year old player for a profit.

Ronaldo is not going to play many games for MU - he knows that. Sitting on the bench is also not an option for him. So what's the way out? Are we stuck with him? I hope not. We have to wait and see. Deep inside I hope he will find a way out because I want to look forward.

His salary is about 24 million so it's 1M per goal (assuming he will score them). I'd rather save this money and invest in somebody younger.

Not true. He's taken a 25% wage reduction like the rest of the squad for not getting CL footy.

Still 19million though which is still ridiculous money for a player that is nearly 38.
