Fancy getting excited over a player coming to United under those conditions. I guarantee you, all the fans getting giddy over him now will be the first ones to slam United as incompetent when he does a Pogba a year from now.

I'm just praying the deal falls through and we just move on, like we should have done months ago.

Does the selling of your club to fund short term projects not terrify you?
If it is only 25% of the television rights and BarcaStudios ( ahora mismo da pérdidas) then no.
Barcelona will have less revenue from selling the TV rights and therefore a lower FFP.

So tired of reading this. Move on to who? We aren’t in a strong position as a club, he absolutely should be sceptical of us and I’d be worried if he wasn’t.

No, Barcelona want to sell him and United want to buy him. If the operation was not done, it is because the player does not want to leave.
If it were only for the €17M, long ago it would have been resolved.
The truth will come out eventually. I just don't think that's the case. If he wanted to stay, he'd have negotiated another pay cut.

There is a noticeable shift in the Spanish media from “FDJ doesn’t want to leave” to “FDJ doesn’t want to leave but he will have to if he doesn’t take a pay cut”

If he was taking a pay cut, it’d be done months ago. And with Barca now offering him some of the deferred wages, the ‘operation’ to move him on is clearly in full swing.

I’m probably the most confident I’ve been since the initial impasse over the wages was revealed.

He’ll not play our first PL game, obviously, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all looking a lot more promising from all sides in a weeks time.
Debut vs Liverpool. MOTM Debut incoming

Will be interesting who is & isn't playing on match day 1 if FdJ hasn't left yet. Only vs Rayo so they could afford to not have Lewa et al playing yet, but would be delicious if they lost points because they weren't able to play them.

United seems more than happy to let this drag on, although it can cost us points as well.
Yeah shouldn't be playing russian roulette with our league points

Then why haven't Barca paid him the £17m they owe him?
Why are you going to pay them now if you are going to stay the same and collect them distributed in the remaining 4 years?

Haha it's worth it though. Just wait until we see that magical tweet by United saying he's signed. It'll be worth it!!

Hell, even the Here We Go Romano tweet will be a sight to behold
Absolutely. I love the ‘new signing’ day. And I mean the ‘here we go’ day more than the official announcement. You get the first tweet from somewhere and then it’s just a frenzy for about an hour on just further confirmation, slowly killing off the doomers

Do you honestly believe that de Jong is going to fix everything? What happens if the deal to United doesn't go through for whatever reason?

Under what conditions exactly? I could equally say the same fans that are pessimistic now will be chanting his name if he joins and performs well. Almost all supporters are that fickle and only really care about how the team performs on the pitch.

The manager clearly thinks he’ll be absolutely key, hence this pursuit. I’d trust him over anyone on here. If it doesn’t go through I think we’ll have a pretty poor season personally, as I don’t think we’ll sign a plan B because there isn’t one. He’s a unique player for the system.

He's a top professional, nothing like Pogba. I do think people here are vastly overrating him but he isn't the sulking type, no issues there whatsoever.

As I've said before, this transfer is very much dependent on Bernardo imo. If City make it difficult, we could see a softening stance towards Frenkie.

I get that but want to know what exactly it is making you so confident
I still don’t think people grasp that Barca cannot have him on that contract he’s on. It’s just not viable for them.

He won’t fix everything but it’s a start and seemingly an important one for the vision of the manger.

If it doesn’t happen then the manager moves on to another plan. Just like he did when Ajax sold him to Barca.

I mean it’s not complicated really.

Adnan based on your knowledge of things, how legitimate do you think this news is? Considering not many have reported on it..
I can only go off who is reporting the news, and imo, Martyn Ziegler is a reputable journo when it comes to reporting on the governance of the game and the business side of the sport. And Ziegler along with Tariq Panja and Rob Harris are three journos who are very clued up on that side of the game.

I don't understand what you're saying. Barca asked the guy to defer his wage during the pandemic. They are now signing multiple new players on new contracts, yet failing to repay a good faith agreement.

Not worried at all yet. Ronaldo will likely still get the number 7, but I'd be shocked if he was still here at the end of the season.

Until United brief, no cause for concern in my opinion

Not every big signing will be a Pogba.

I mean, why is Barcelona going to pay FDJ 17M now if he already has the money distributed in 4 years?
The player does not want to leave nor does he want to lower his salary.

I guess not if it persuades de Jong to take a pay cut because he will play in his favoured position.
I think it'll take more than than for him to agree to a paycut. If they were going that route, he'd have been playing in his favoured position for the whole tour as it would convince him he's in their plans in his favoured position.

Instead he's been played as a CB and told his time in midfield will be limited

He could be captaining the team and you’d all be saying they’re only doing it as one last gesture before they get rid of him.

Yup. Also, it would have been news by now had he changed his mind.

Unless he's suddenly decided that money means feck all and that he enjoys being taken advantage of, therefore taking the pay cut, I'd say him playing means bugger all, even if he was captain haha.

Xavi is going to experiment with all kinds of formations just in case he DOES stay. It can't be fully ruled out even if it looks very very unlikely that it'll happen
