Nooo, not Neves. Our midfield would be so lightweight. We need press resistant players.
Not to mention he’s a Mendes client. feck him for the shit he and his main client have pulled over us this summer

Ya think? de Jong is better, for sure, but Neves is excellent too. Fred, Neves and Bruno as a midfield 3 sounds pretty good to me. Ideally we'd get 2 CMs, but I'd take Neves in a heartbeat.
I don’t hate Neves, in any other scenario I’d be buzzing to have him- genuinely admired him for years at wolves, but if it’s at the expense of Frenkie who is a dream player for our team.

Not going to lie, a bit of me died inside when they said Neves was our backup. Neves is a slight upgrade on Fred I guess but still significantly below the level we should be aiming for imo. I suppose if we aren't going for Fabian Ruiz there aren't many other alternatives for the role though.

The FDJ saga is one of the most complicated, contradicting transfers, ever. He better be worth the wait.
Even though I’d love to sign him because he would be a big upgrade on McFred, I fear he’s not going to be as good as some on here expect him to be.

All his better performances were all with Ajax where the likes of De Ligt, Ziyech, Donny and Tadic all looked like world beaters.

He’ll certainly improve us though but that’s due to us having such a poor midfield in recent years.

Neves gets dominated by the top 6 midfields especially if Chelsea acquire De Jong. Can you imagine how poor that would be. That line up vs De Jong, Kovacic & Mount.

De Jong and Sanches for us would be amazing.

If we sign both, great. If he is instead of Frenkie then deeply and depressingly underwhelming.
A de Jong/Neves midfield would be interesting. A huge upgrade on what we already have. I'm a fan of Neves and can see him working out, so to get both would be immense. Can't see us spunking that amount of cash in one window on our midfield. That would...just make too much damn sense.

Is Melissa Reddy essentially reporting briefs directly from the club?
Yes I think so
You have to wonder why they bother? Saying nothing at this point seems like the best option if they are continuing to pursue.

"Quite confident" hardly gives off an air of success after such an expensive chase, and it only contributes to peoples disappointment/frustration if/when it doesn't happen too especially days away from the season starting with some reports even saying they should have moved on weeks ago as United aren't an option.

Simon Johnson of The Athletic did, and he's Tier 1 for Chelsea. Before him, Jacob Steinberg reported something similar, but no one else has besides those two.
Feck.

I suppose as long as Matt Law, Romano and Orny don’t get too involved hopefully it’s just rumours. Can’t take anymore twists and turns in this saga :annoyed:

If they weren't quite confident they'd be preparing fans whenever they had the chance. They still truly believe this might happen. And they know more than some Sport rag.

Can't spell Mkhitaryan
Youri Tielemans for 30 mill is a good piece of business. I know he dropped off a little last season ut at that price he'd be a great alternative to FdJ

You can't promise FDJ for 3 months and then deliver Ruben fecking Neves.... for more money.

Neves, so good, literally no one wants to sign him except us.

Isn’t this lad meant to be generational. Why are we not in for £15mil?
I guess it makes sense for Chelsea more than us? They have a decent set of midfielders currently and are likely mapping out next season and beyond. We need a player in now (De Jong) and have a few of our own prospects EtH may want to look at further.

Chelsea definitely not getting De Jong
You really think Chelsea signing an 18 year old midfielder means they've decided against signing De Jong? Whether they are genuinely interested in FDJ or not, I assure you Chukwuemeka's signing will have no impact on that interest whatsoever.

We don’t need more clunky movers in midfield. Neves has an excellent long range pass in his locker, but he doesn’t come close to offering what strengths a potential Frenkie deal will.

That looks like an Ole midfield right there. Neves is slow and doesn't carry the ball. Good at pinging it up to our pacey forwards though

Ruiz is a better option

It’s quite obvious in this signing they are looking at their future midfield not the here and now.

It shows doing something in the CM area isn’t a priority this season.

Just as I suspected

Neves would be better as a partner for De Jong rather than as an alternative, they're very different players.
