The Chelsea interest being concrete hopefully speeds things along abit.
How would it speed it along? We reached an agreement with barca weeks ago...it's on FDJ and always has been

13 weeks and he goes to Chelsea we all know we can’t match them when it comes to negotiations and as soon as they ar run for someone they usually get them.

utterly baffling , we should have wrapped this up weeks ago they aren’t in negotiations without knowing if FDJ wants to come.
Is this banter?

But the same logic applies to Chelsea now. Why would they make a move without knowing if the player he wanted to come?
If they’re in then it means we’re out
Raphinha
Richarlison
Gabriel Jesus
Kounde
Ake
Kimpembe

I’m sure there’s more. Some of these players had fee’s agreed. Whilst they were clearly interested in going other places. I think we need to admit Chelsea are being taken for a ride this window.

Yes they will get good players in but I mean if it’s Brighton or Chelsea regardless of how amateur they are behaving you will want to move.

I don't take delight in it. It's frustrating as all hell after the last couple of months. But the last couple of days this has been brewing and people didn't want to consider the possibility because of an injury prone 31 year old Kante and a 30 year old Jorginho, both with 1 year left on their contracts.
Would still have a job on to get in ahead of Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho, Gallagher whereas at United he’s be straight in as the main man under his former manager. Sure he wouldn’t want to be like Saul Niguez last year.

Of course he will choose Chelsea over us if given the choice right now. It's London and they have the CL

Wow, I mean fair fecks if Chelsea actually are willing to match our offer I was very wrong indeed yesterday. Todd Boehly clearly not shy about opening his wallet to make a point.

Still not entirely sure it actually makes a whole load of sense for Chelsea to be spending that highly on a midfielder but fair to say I am now somewhat concerned.

In all seriousness, if Chelsea close this deal quickly (and that’s a big IF) then it would leave us looking silly
Yes. Losing out on our main summer transfer target to Chelsea at this point would be very bad.

Understandable, in a way. They have CL football and we don't, so it's very fair to actually choose them ahead of us. But unequivocally still very bad news for us given the time we spent pursuing him and the degree to which he appears to be our first choice in that position.

They know exactly what they need to offer now. All they have to do is match ours. I guess we will find our really soon if the unpaid 17mil were the only stumbling block or not.
If we’re not total morons we’ve had Neves primed for a while anyway. Maybe they’ll surprise us and add Tielemans and Sesko in for good measure. Yeah me neither.

Most of them wanted to come until the last minute /paper talk and City set the price too high.
Kimpembe was never on and they moved on quickly which should scare fans who want de Jong since they’ve been hanging around like a bad smell for a while now

Turns out it was genuine wasn't it?
Yeah but it didn't look like it at that time. It sounded more like someone's opinion.

Now I am worried. It still doesn't make much sense to me but at least there's a proper source now.

Getting led up the garden path by a potential signing? Today is the day that Richard Arnold arrived as Manchester United CEO.

I don't understand how Chelsea are going to sign him, does the deferred wages issue suddenly disappear if the team bidding on him wears blue, is in the CL and play in London?

Basically this. We’ll end up paying some of those wages with Chelsea’s interest. And probably something to the agent as well

Tbh it's been said for a while now that Chelsea had interest, but people ignored it until something more concrete from a more reputable reporter which is fair enough. But those same people would be wanking silly over any positive news from any source for United.

Don't worry lads, he looks at ETH like his sporting father, they chat on snapchat every day, and we wouldn't have persuaded him till August without guarantee right? Am I doing this right?

Most of them wanted to come if there first choice fell through.

They’ve been hanging around like a bad smell the same way they hung around Jesus, Richarlison and Raphinha.

You would think they are very aware now this only happens if United fall through. Which could happen.

At least we are going to find out if the wages were really the actual problem

Are we though? I don't feel like there's a whole lot of traction behind that one and still conflicting stories.
Got a lot of traction in last few days (Romero + some other journos including Slovenian ones reported ongoing talks). There is definitely concrete interest in that one with Salzburg looking like they are asking too much atm.

Ok. Now we panic
Ornstein... Feck me if it ends up with him going to Chelsea. If it wouldn't be tragic, it would be hilarious.

That's that then I think, either we pay more or it's over. Chelsea won't mess about.

Here’s me defending it, I agree with you. I’ve been arguing against the narrative that United wouldn’t be hanging on to de Jong without assurances from him all summer. Your post proves this does sometimes happen as does our de Jong chase itself

All things considered, it certainly doesn't seem as if the deferred wages issue was the real reason why this deal hasn't been concluded.

He might come to an agreement with Barcelona that he will accept half of deferred wage as they are selling him to a CL Club.
