Please tell me what more can United do (because Chelsea can’t magically make the deferred wages disappear no matter how bad the meltdown is in here) to force this transfer through when the issue is between Barca/FDJ.

Please tell me how this is embarrassing after a deal has been agreed with United/Barca.

What more can United do now? Please tell me….if United doing their job and agreeing a fee is embarrassing then wow

Stop swallowing that Glazer rubbish............even through you fed up the known facts so far.

If FdJ goes to Chelsea, he obviously puts playing CL this season above all else. It'll be disappointing but it's not like we haven't lost players to Chelsea before. I'm not sure how much blame I can put on United if that were to happen as we've done our part, agreed a fee with Barca weeks ago, can't do anything about the wage issue. I hope the rumors of a backup target is true, because we need bodies in midfield for the upcoming season.

But it's not done until it's done, so here's hoping he still chooses United.

Might be that despite us having his old coach here, he simply sees Chelsea to be a safer bet. They're in a better situation compared to us, already an established team with a winning (not taking anything away from ETH) coach that's competing on all levels, whilst on the other side were just getting started from the scratch (again...) and there's no telling how things will turn out.

They've sat there with there dick in their hand since FDJ went to the US and done literally nothing. They should have actually put some pressure or Barca to finish the deal.

Chelsea are now heavy favourites with the bookies to sign De Jong. We were favourites at evens with Chelsea 3/1, but overnight those odds have swapped.

What the feck happened?

I mean before he signed, he demanded a lot of assurances and power. Apparently we craved because we wanted to get our man, but this could easily be one of the downsides of this.

Didn't Ajax fans mention that transfers are a distinct weak point of his?
That might be the reason why he does the tactic stuff and not the buying and negotiating with players stuff...

He wants Frenkie and thinks he need Frenkie to play the tactics he wants. He cant play the tactics he wants with expensive and overrated Rice or Neves so he doesnt want those players. He wants Frenkie or someone like Frenkie. There arent any players like Frenkie on the market who are willing to go to Manchester United. That is why he wants Frenkie.

Finally got a manager with an idea and planned tactic. That tactic requires certains player but now people just want to dump any random midfielder on the manager because ''spending money and buying players is fun''. Im happy Manchester United seems smarter instead of buying players that just dont suit the manager. Like Di Maria didnt suit van Gaal and i dont think Ole asked for Ronaldo for example.

Or he might just be listening the wants of his Mrs? None of us have any idea the scope of influence she potentially has on this transfer. She’s desperate to stay in Barcelona, but maybe has compromised on London.

Might not be better than Manchester to people that have experienced both cities, but to a foreigner looking in it might be the more attractive option.

Maybe the football career aspect of this is actually lowest of the priorities for them.

Still no update this morning on Chelsea and De Jong from Holland (Verweij/van der Kraan), Chelsea’s biggest mouthpiece (Matt Law) or Fabrizio Romano.
Won't be long now I am afraid, well at least this isn't going to go on for another month now

Put it this way, to go this far into the window and spend this much time on it, Erik Ten Hag would have to be stark raving bonkers not to have cast iron assurances that we’re his club of choice should he leave.
There is always the possibility that we are gambling on an unknown outcome, but I think you're probably right and we would have backed away by this point unless we were quite confident of an outcome that suited us.

Of course the other possibility is that we backed away ages ago and we've all just developed a narrative based on a load of 'journalists' talking bollocks all summer

We need to rebuild and it's not going to happen overnight. I
Clubs with lesser budgets are able to completely revamp their starting XI within a season. With the amount of money we've spent on "surplus players" (VDB, Varane, Ronaldo, AWB, Pellistri, Amad) over the past two years we could've had an entirely new midfield of 3-4 new players capable of challenging City's quality midfield. The only reason it's not happening "overnight" is because the club doesn't have the ambition, necessary infrastructure, competence, and planning to oversee such a rebuild.

Not much you can do when a player is not, let's say thrilled to join us, and he's owed money by his current team.

Only other thing is to wastly overpay everyone...Barca for the fee, players wages in order to soften him up about the idea of playing for us, deferred wages...

I think we all know at this point it comes down to the deferred wages. We have to remember Barca approached us about this deal, not the other way around, they need the money, they need him off the books, we should have threatened to walk away, or something and forced them to solve the wage issue with Frenkie.

I was under the assumption that EtH would've had talks with FdJ, so United were prepared to play the waiting game. But that of course might be untrue. Even if Chelsea get him I don't think they'll get past the wage issue without it going down to the La Liga registration date. Only Barca and De Jong can solve the wage issue, I don't think any external party can influence them.

True, we can't assume De Jong or his family's motivation. But from a footballing perspective, I believe the CL is the only thing Chelsea have over us in this season.

We have no firm proof that this is the case though, it's just all journalist reports that state that. Mainly Sport.
There has been absolutely nothing from de Jong that says he's not really interested in joining United, all thats been said is he'd rather stay at Barca. There has been so many conflicting reports on this saga, and pretty much all of them have originated in Spain.
